Nothing great.. routine scenic place next to a lake.. staff could be more courteous.. food average.. rooms are nice but overpriced @ 11000 per night.. the approach road is painful.. the inside of the resort is maintained well

We stayed at Rikynjai for one night during our Assam Meghalaya vacation. It is a luxury boutique resort which is 20 Kms. before Shillong presiding the Umiam Lake. It has all the luxuries other than a swimming pool and an in room mini bar. It's the architect of the Resort which is inviting and to look for. One should spend...

We stayed here for 3 nights. The architecture of this hotel is very thoughtful and the detailing is sublime. The hotel just integrates with the mountain and Umiam Lake. Local artifacts placed throughout the property are very interesting. All cottages are duplex, have a clear view of the lake and provide ample privacy. The front desk is very cooperative, always...

I was there а year ago. I've been in India two times and I think this place is the most beautiful point in the whole of India. The view is incomparable. I like it and I will certainly go there again. I highly recommend you Ri Kynjai (beautiful place)!

As cliché as it may sound, it is a whole lot harder to stay on top, than to climb to it. Ri Kynjai is a perfect example of this attitude. Having stayed there several years ago, I raved about the location and the exemplary service of the staff. Much to my horror of a return to find out that the...

The hotel is like a museum - many artifacts arranged in the rooms and the lobby. It preserves the local tribes construction method but with modern and comfortable way. Service was very good....

We recently stayed for one night on our way back from cherrapunjee to Guwahati. The resort is constructed in such a way that serenity of place not disturbed. You are so near to jungle and lake and yet not disturbing them. We checked in late about 5.00 pm and were surprised to note as there was no advertisement nor any...

The hotel offers breathtaking view of Umiam lake. It is in a very quiet location and 40 mins away from Shillong. It is a great place to relax but if you want to go around in the town, you have to add 2 hours to and fro. We stayed in the cottage. The cottage rooms have high ceiling and well...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ri Kynjai translates into Khasi as land of serenity. This Spa-Resort presiding over the picturesque Umiam lake 16kms from Shillong is aptly named "Ri Kynjai - Serenity By The Lake". The architecture is inspired and derived from the original Khasi thatch huts. Supported on tall circular stilts on the terrace of the hotel blocks are the hybrid cottages derived from vernacular Khasi architecture. These cottages serve to portray the transition from tradition to modernity and have an interpretation of the traditional upturned boat roof done in metallic thatch fused to modern gables. Each cottage has a fireplace in the living/ bedroom area and the mezzanine floor has an additional bedroom arrangement. ... more   less
