Stay was nice. View was excellent. Good for relaxing and spending time with family. Not much to do except enjoy the beautiful view and nice weather. Expensive. Cottages better value for money. Don't forget charger and essentials as the market is nearly 2 hours away

This place is the perfect destination to kick back and relax with a book and beverage! We are a family of three with a 7 year old child and spent 3 nights at the property, almost had to drag ourselves out every morning to visit the local sights and scenes around shillong. I had some meetings in Guwahati last month and wanted to find a place nearby to relax for the weekend. This property was just perfect. The cottages are large with beautiful views. I would highly recommend one of those over the other rooms. I ended up having to spend my last night in a Superior room for scheduling reasons and...

The hotel is made with extensive wood and cane products.. you get the earthy type of feel.. the decor features khasi apparel and other products. The base room (for that price) is the biggest i have ever seen...

Ri Kynjai is nestled amongst beautiful trees. It's utmost luxury and it's Khasi essence cannot be ignored. The rooms are huge (largest I've seen in a luxury hotels), all rooms face the Umaim lake and the staff is extremely friendly and warm. You feel cared and at home. The rooms are elegantly done up with all contemporary facilities, the in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ri Kynjai translates into Khasi as land of serenity. This Spa-Resort presiding over the picturesque Umiam lake 16kms from Shillong is aptly named "Ri Kynjai - Serenity By The Lake". The architecture is inspired and derived from the original Khasi thatch huts. Supported on tall circular stilts on the terrace of the hotel blocks are the hybrid cottages derived from vernacular Khasi architecture. These cottages serve to portray the transition from tradition to modernity and have an interpretation of the traditional upturned boat roof done in metallic thatch fused to modern gables. Each cottage has a fireplace in the living/ bedroom area and the mezzanine floor has an additional bedroom arrangement. ... more   less
