We stayed for two nights at the end of December. The Hotel is good value for money as the bedrooms were of a good size, comfortable bed and a range of cupboards for storage. Good hot shower and coffee, teas, bottles of water, biscuits etc always topped up. The receptionist very efficient and friendly as were any other staff that we saw, the breakfast was excellent and well cooked and a quick service. Some of the furniture a little dated but for the price excellent!

A lovely location on the mill stream, easy to find and lovely rooms with newly renovated bathroom, although my room needed a new toilet seat or it needed to be fixed and the sink was quite small. Shower was lovely. Difficult to fill the kettle for a cup of tea as it wouldn't fit easily under the tap.

Rate was very reasonable.

Only downside was that the evening menu was very limited and not very inspiring, hotel only appeared to be open for guests and therefore was very quiet and the bar closed when no one was using it.

We went out for a meal, came back hoping to watch football and have a drink in the bar, but everything was closed, not what we expected at 8.30 in the evening.

Breakfast was however lovely and staff very attentive.

we stayed at the hotel on the night of the 17th February after a day at Fakenham races which the wensum lodge is ideally located for. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the hotel was clean and the room nicely presented and very comfortable. We didnt eat dinner but the the breakfast was good. What was exceptional though were the staff, not only were they friendly and efficient they really made you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. My wife dropped her purse containing all her cards and over £20 in cash by the breakfast table, we checked out and were about half way home when we got a call from the hotel to say they had found the purse. I asked them to use the £20 cash in the purse to send to us at home recorded delivery and to give the change to who had found it. They would not hear of it and on the Monday the purse duly arrived by recorded delivery still containing the £20 - Priceless.
So in summary a very good hotel for the money anyway, brilliant staff, we'd recommend to anyone.

Dirty smelly and apparently toenail clippings on the floor around our bed and the musky smell thru out this entire establishment is not a valid reason for refund. We checked in at 1pm and out again at 3 pm . The manager considers this reason to charge me £99 as a cancellation fee. Well if we'd known it was going to be this dire we'd have just cancelled and not bothered to travel 110 miles to be let down. Truly awful. Just pop your head in the door and tell me it doesn't smell. My issue is that we found it to be awful so left promptly. £99 !!!!!!

We stayed two nights at the Wensum Lodge Hotel, staff were very friendly, we had rooms 10 and 11, both of which were clean and comfortable, room 10 had a fridge, Our room 11 was on the first floor, overlooking the rear of some private accommodation, Although not very pretty it didn't bother us as we were only using the room to sleep in.The bathroom had recently been refurbished by the look of it, the shower was excellent,
We opted for cooked breakfasts on both days, which were more than ample, cereal and toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee, also available, Can't complain about anything, Only thing that might be a problem if hotel is full, could be car parking, There isn't a great deal of parking space available, Fine when we were there, as only a couple of other guests staying.
The hotel is set beside a river, which is nice to sit by and have a few drinks.

The room was lovely and clean however, we booked a room to include breakfast. We received an email the week before to say that there would be no bar or breakfast, however we weren’t offered a discounted rate. There was a Wetherspoons a few minutes walk away. There was also a terrible smell throughout the hotel although not in the room thank goodness.
As mentioned, the room was spotless, the location fantastic for the centre of fakenham , plenty of free parking and a lovely warm welcome.

Stayed for 2 nights. Jason and his staff were really hospitable. Rooms were well equipped. Plenty of tea and coffee and water. Breakfast was prepared to order and was fresh and extremely tasty. Ideal location for thursford show. Will definitely go back.

Basically a homeless shelter.Don't want other business. Two years ago brilliant not now. We won't be back till major staff changes. Keep clear of this place not welcoming at all. By the way the homeless people were far more accommodating than the owners avoid at all costs

Response from Jason Loates, Owner at Wensum Lodge Hotel
Responded Nov 23, 2021
The reviewer most certainly has a different view of proceedings than myself. After the bar was shut the couple got very abusive because we would not serve them anymore alcohol. They even asked my 13 year old child to serve them. They were then asked to leave and threatened us

I have been going to Fakenham for over 15 years we only live in Heacham. Its the first time I have been into this establishment. We only had a couple of drinks as we had to drive home. I have never had such a friendly welcome before. Because of the virus I wanted to sit outside and there were no tables left. The owner organised us a table and chairs from the bar so we could sit by the river. AMAZING. I will be going back for a meal very soon. We had excellent service. Can't wait to go back we will prob book a room then nobody has to drive. Thank you so much for a great couple of hours.

Home cooked food, lovely staff, great bar and clean, fresh rooms. Lots of choice at restaurant and first class breakfast. One of my favourite Christmas breaks. This is a real gem in beautiful Norfolk. I’ll be back. Thanks to all staff for making this a special
