Le Strange Arms Hotel & Lodges has garnered compliments for its idyllic beachfront location and views, along with a warm atmosphere and clean, cozy rooms that offer a comfortable stay. While the service generally receives high marks for being attentive and friendly, some guests have experienced occasional lapses. Despite the praise for its amenities and charm, there are concerns about the hotel's value, with some feeling the price increases aren't justified by the current offerings, including the dated decor and the need for better soundproofing in rooms.

We travel to the area regularly and have always promised ourselves we would try this hotel, so when it came up on an offer we jumped at the opportunity. The hotel is in a fabulous location, overlooking Hunstanton beach, and although it was very blustery it was excellent for walking the beach and blowing the cobwebs away! The greeting was friendly and the room was small but fine. The carpet was very stained which let it down, but the bed was enormous comfy and very clean. The bathroom was small but had everything you need, plenty of towels, mini toiletries, huge showerhead and good got water pressure.

We had evening meal in the restaurant, and although it lacked any atmosphere, as hotels often do, the service was good and the meal was very nice indeed. Breakfast was also very enjoyable we we felt they had covered all the bases when it came to Covid safety.

We would recommend this hotel for a relaxing getaway, and would return.

We spent a long weekend at Le Strange from 16 October and the experience was memorable for many reasons. We booked a sea view premier room which unfortunately suffered from a very noisy water riser which disturbed our sleep on the first night. However on asking to move rooms the following morning the transfer was carried out with the minimum of fuss, a great example for putting the customer first, and the staff could not have been more helpful. The transfer resulted in a refund on our bill and the replacement room in our opinion was of an equal standard and did not detract from our overall experience. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent and just got on with their jobs under difficult circumstances (fully operational Covid precautions) and could not have been more professional or helpful. While the hotel rooms themselves are maybe a little dated we will definitely return as we felt very comfortable in the surroundings plus the location is perfect for long beach walks

Stayed at Le Strange for 3 nights. Location is amazing, beautiful views of coast, delightful sunsets and very relaxing.
Hotel itself is very clean but in our opinion dated decor.
Room was spotlessly clean, but again dated decor, in fact quite chintzy. During course of stop, noticeable smell of drains from bathroom. The morning of departure we noticed a drains specialist had pulled up outside so good this at least being actioned.
Breakfasts are of an excellent quality, modest portions but enough. Overall staff exceptionally polite and helpful. Doing a great job with additional challenges Covid present, and felt safe with clear signage and hand plentiful sanitiser available.
At approx.£190 per night for B@B stand alone would be strongly inclined to view as well overpriced but then location makes it about right.

Would revisit in future.

The saving grace of our stay at this establishment was the location which was superb. However the hotel is in dire need of a refurbishment. Our room was very tired with chipped paintwork and with grubby upholstery and a carpet needed a good clean. Bearing in mind what we paid this was really not good enough. The sheets were too small for the bed and it was a pig to make up. Due to COVID our room was not serviced but we took advantage of the offer to have housekeeping change the bed linen on the 4 th day. We assumed wrongly that housekeeping would change the towels and empty the waste paper basket as well but they did neither, I went in search’s of somewhere to put the contents of the waste paper basket and met with a hostile housekeeping person who when I asked where I could dispose of the rubbish pointed to a black plastic bin liner at the far end of the corridor at the top of the stairs and said “There” as if I I was a bad smell. The dining was adequate, breakfast could have been better organised especially as we had preordered what we wanted the night before. Cooked breakfasts arrived long after the toast and coffee. The bistro was ambient but the dining room was very weird. I am afraid this hotel doesn’t deserve its 4 star status and we won’t be returning.

The garden Studio is excellent. At time of writing they are just completing three more immediately adjacent, so they may have different set ups. Ours is the original unit.
The bedrooms are massive, three large doubles with at least king size beds. One had twin beds, but they had offered double instead. The fourth is actually the lounge/diner./kitchenette which we did nit need as a bedroom. Each room has ensuite bathroom and the master upstairs has a bath, shower and 2 x wash hand basins. Everything was spotlessly clean, and no sign of dog hairs etc (I believe pets are allowed). Each room has a TV, but the RC for our lounge was a multi kit and did not work, but no problem as we used one from a bedroom. The balcony is big enough to sit out on an evening to watch the sun go down, but was too cold on our visit to take advantage. Very short walk to the beach, passing an excellent beach cafe and beach toilets.

There are a couple of negatives. These may be more of a problem for some groups than they were for us:

Generally, one expects, with self catering, a washing machine and certainly on a seaside location, a tumble drier. Neither were available. I did not notice any outside clothes lines either. When you have kids who love splashing in the sea, yu miss a drier !

Given that the unit is advertised as for 6/8 people, the seating area is poor. The seating consisted of a sofa bed (very poor and uncomfortable as a sofa, but we did not use as a bed). There were 2 hotel lounge type bucket chairs (bigger than bucket seats). Again, these were very uncomfortable as a lounge chair. The odd thing is that there is room to have more comfortable seating, and appears to be designed by someone who would be out and about every evening - difficult with young children. However, if I was responsible for the internal layout, I would have sacrificed some of the very generous bedroom space for a larger lounge area. For all we know, that may be the case with the 3 nw units - the first may have been a "trial".

The Le Strange Arms Hotel is an annual favourite of ours being a great, really well run hotel by a wonderful Norfolk beach and very close to wonderful countryside designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
As the Hotel and its gardens face west over the sea, you get cracking sunsets when the weather is nice! The hotel rooms are very comfortable and well appointed and equally as important, the staff are always very helpful and friendly. Despite the covid restrictions, the breakfast service remained excellent. Equally, the hotel has a restaurant for evening meals although we like eating at the pub restaurant next door in the evening - the Ancient Mariner - which is owned by the hotel chain. Its a lovely atmospheric place with great pub food and the attached pub has a dining area provided for hotel guests with sea-ward views. What is not to like? This lovely hotel does it for us and we look forward to returning!

I have a feeling that this hotel relies too much on its fantastic location close to the beach. The rooms are dingy and need an overhaul, and the facilities in each room have fallen behind the times. The food in the restaurant was great, but the restaurant itself had the atmosphere of a care home, and we had to listen to horrible piped music.

On a whim we decided to take a (slightly) long weekend break, and rather than head south and west as is our wont we decided to brave the eastern arm of the M25 and head for Norfolk. After a bit of judicious Tripadvisory we settled on Hunstanton, and the rather brilliantly named Le Strange Arms Hotel - felt all very Harry Potter...

The hotel was nearly fully booked so the two of us ended up with a huge family room (actually two rooms adjoining with one bathroom) but at least we had sleeping options in the event of a marital bust-up (didn't happen by the way).

Room and bathroom were spotless, decor was pretty fresh, toiletries all good, towels and linens soft and good quality and the shower was excellent (perhaps a bigger shower head would be nice?). The double bed was two joined together so huge, and with a thick topper was very comfy.

Staff from check-in to the restaurant and bar were all lovely, helpful and friendly. It was an education to witness the patience of the lady running the dining room at breakfast when a couple came in, helped themselves from the buffet and sat down. Slightly bemused the waitress asked for their room number as she didn't have any other tables booked in. "oh, we're not staying here, we're with those two over there who are. Is there a problem?" Give me strength....

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on the 1st night which was excellent, and in the Mariners pub next door (part of the hotel) which was decent pub grub.

All in all a great stay, and thanks to the team for making us feel so welcome.

Other than the sea view the room was on a par with any mass commercial hotel chain.

Tracey the receptionist is a gem and nothing was too much trouble for her. The request for replacement light bulbs was dealt with promptly. My concerns about staff demonstrating poor infection control practices was acknowledged by her. However it didn’t stop members of staff wearing face masks incorrectly and those wearing vinyl gloves wearing them for multiple tasks thereby increasing the risk of infection.

Breakfast
Due to Covid this had to be ordered the night before. Not once in three days was the order correct with items missing. The portions were small - scrambled egg was four teaspoons! Staff never checked to see if more toast tea/coffee etc was required. Fruit was not available. The bread and prepackaged items was of the lowest quality. My local hospital provides a better breakfast.

Due to the quality of the breakfast we didn’t feel inclined to try the evening meals.

Covid was given as the reason for rooms not being cleaned daily. Hospital wards/rooms are cleaned daily ....
Not cleaning the rooms didn’t mean that the other areas were gleaming, the stairs definitely needed hoovering.

We were left with the impression that Covid was being used as an excuse to provide poor quality of services. If there had been a good customer care philosophy led by the management in place prior to Covid this should have continued.

The Hotel is very COVID save, check in is queued and quick. Our double room was spacious with all unnecessary furniture cushions etc removed - it had a great sea view. The en suite was well appointed and safe. All facilities (kettle/ iron) were fully operational. We had dinner in the evening (excellent) and breakfast in the morning; both meals very good. However the best thing about our stay was the fact that all the staff were efficient, friendly - and they all smiled at us even when "masked up" the y always had a pleasant greeting or offer of assistance. We stayed in the new build extension, but is is an old hotel so other rooms may be difficult to access (they do have a good lift); and good parking.

Its joined but has separate entrys and exits. You don't know the pubs there till you walk up the decking area to the road. The hotel is good. The pub is good. Enjoy.
