Myself and my husband were looking for a spontaneous stress relieving get away with our lovely 9 Yr old dog, not too far from our home county Essex. We decided to use our 'escape to the country' smartbox voucher and chose to stay at the The dales which was an option recommended by smartbox. After doing our research and reading the amazing reviews we rung the hotel to see their earliest availability. We spoke to a very nice lady called ANN.M who explained to us how the voucher works, recommended us things to do and what is involved in our overnight stay. We were very apprehensive about asking if they allow dogs at the hotel as I know many places have a no dog policy and usually get very funny. Ann was so happy to tell us the hotel allows dogs, explained the wonderful added touches the hotel provides for your companion from (a variety sized dog beds, dog biscuits, doggy blankets, bowls and various doggy friendly rooms for couples)
The Standard/double room (dog friendly) came with the package and by no means was the room just standard.
Whilst making the booking over the phone we kind of drifted off subject and chatted about our love for dogs. Ann has a labradoodle and we have a husky so we had a lot of common interests there.
Anyway, luckily we managed to secure the last booking for that weekend as they were pretty much fully booked with the vouchers until October.

Upon arrival we recieved nothing less than excellent service, stunning views, stunning periodic hotel and absolutely amazing food. We hired the hotel bikes and went for a lovely cycle with the dog in Sheringham Park down to the steam train station.
In the evening we bumped into Ann.M herself and made a reservation at the hotel restaurant for dinner. Being pescatarian we thought we may struggle a bit but there was so many delicious options and the chef even served us food from the lunch menu but bigger portions. We had the mussles and cheese board! You would never get that level of service and food for the price we paid, in Essex. It was very reasonable.
The hotel was so relaxing and beautiful, the room was spacious and perfect for my little family. Laying in bed, opening the patio doors and letting the dog roam the secure gardens was my favourite thing about our 'standard' room.
Our free breakfast fit for a king and queen that came with the package was also one of my favorite aspects of the hotel. We will definitely be back hopefully soon and I cannot recommend this hotel or Ann.m enough (There are two Ann's and i want to make sure the right person gets the praise)

So if you're1 reading this and thinking about it, like I was. Do it!!!!

also, this is my first review hence the babbling so I apologise :)

We stayed two nights here in August.
The check in was efficient with explanation about where we had to wear masks and that there was a one way system in operation on the stairs.
We were allocated the Heron room on the first floor which was lovely and had a comfortable four poster bed and lovely bathroom with a good sized bath and separate shower cubicle. Everything in the room was clean.
We had dinner the first night, which was good.
Breakfast was terribly slow and it was very random the way we were served, I’m sure it could have been organised much better. The breakfast choices and quality were ok.
All in all we had two nights, two breakfasts and one dinner.
The Hotel is a nice hotel in a lovely quiet location on the edge of Sheringham Park, the only downside was the slow unorganised breakfast service but we’d definitely return here!

My daughter bought my husband a Virgin voucher to say thank you for doing a load of DIY for her and so we just looked through the options and chose the Dales, principally because the building looked so beautiful! It turned out to be just as lovely inside.

We stayed there for 2 nights and just loved it. The food was fantastic, local produce and each plate was a work of art. The very generous breakfast kept us going for hours. Our room was like a cocoon (it started snowing not long after we arrived!), bathroom perfect with big soft towels and a big walk in shower. The staff were all absolutely delightful, great ambiance with wood burning stoves going in the downstairs rooms. It was comfortable, relaxing and we'd heartily recommend it to anyone.
I wish it hadn't been so cold or we could have spent more time exploring the beautiful grounds and nearby National Trust estate but we did drive along the coast, which was absolutely stunning. Well worth the long drive.

We booked a room at this hotel for overnight accommodation so that we could celebrate a birthday with a local friend. It was more money than we were looking to pay initially but choices were minimal so we decided to treat ourselves.

When we arrived we found that the room we were allocated on the top floor with the door and window wide open and smelling strongly of sewage, which seemed to be coming from the bathroom. We let the staff know and they were a little unconvincing in their surprise. There had obviously been an attempt to reduce the smell by leaving the doors and windows open. Following phone instructions from their supervisor, Zoflora was poured down the shower trap. This just made the room smell like flowery sewage instead so we asked to be moved to a different room, We were told that the hotel was fully booked and that they couldn't move us and that 'this is the problem with everyone going away at the same time'. I found this comment really crass and lacking any sense of empathy or service.

We had no choice but to sleep with the windows open and the bathroom door closed in conditions that we wouldn't expect from a hotel charging £180.00 per night. The staff didn't mention the smell the next morning, no enquiry as to whether their solution had solved the problem. When I mentioned the lack of improvement in the room an apology was eventually forthcoming.

We had booked this break to treat ourselves following a difficult pandemic lock down period and were extremely disappointed at the quality of the service provided. Rooms here aren't cheap and I have had much better accommodation and service for much less money. I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend either.

A shambles over drinks, waited in the library 15 minutes but when drinks arrived we were asked to go to our table where our meals arrived. We requested time to have our drinks but only givn a few minutes when our reheated meals reappeared, no chance of finishing drinks or ordering wine.
We were literally back to back with 4 strangers, certainly not 2 metres or even 1. Observing staff relay tables, only tablecloths were changed, no sanitizer used. Lefy feeling vulnerable and uncomfortable.

Pretty property and gardens let down by poor management. Each staff member we dealt with was lovely. But team severely understaffed. As a result we couldn’t order drinks, had to wait over ten minutes to even be acknowledged for a breakfast table. Couldn’t get a top up of tea and waited over an hour for my breakfast. Food was mediocre once it arrived.

Room was nice and very clean but could do with new mattress as incredibly soft and sagging on one side and given bed was small in size (double), I struggled to not roll off to one side.

When we were checking out (which took over 25min), every couple ahead of us found a fault in their bill and shared feedback very consistent with what I’ve written here.

With foreign travel limited, I’m sure they will have no trouble filling their rooms but what a missed opportunity. We won’t be staying here again.

We booked into Dales for 2 nights 16,17th Feb. We live in Mid Suffolk so know Norfolk coast quiet well with several hotel stays over the past 30 so years.
Dale House is a beautiful charming Country House Hotel. Arrived Sunday lunch time and decided to have Sunday lunch and a drink!! rather than go back out, looking for alternative. Great Sunday Roast, but had to forego dinner as 2 large meals a day is to much for us both. The room was a very large suite, open plan bedroom and seated area with large sofa and very larage bathromm. Evening dinner on Moday was very good. Not a huge meny but a good variety of local gam, and seafood.

Booked a private gazebo 3.30-5.30, have a toddler so wanted the quietest time and a private area to try and contain her! Husband and daughter are coeliacs and there were a good few options for my husband, we phoned in advance and they explained sadly there are no gluten free child options but they’re sure the chef could make something.

Took a while to take our order but the grounds were so nice, as were the staff, that we didn’t mind at all. Once ordered the food came quickly and was delicious!!!! Would definitely go again.

Pros: outside space, great food including gluten free, friendly staff

Cons: daughter was given child size chicken veg and potatoes and we were charged full adults price £13.50 which was disappointing (only noticed afterwards).

Haven’t been here for a few years but went recently for Afternoon Tea. Lovely old building and we sat in a nice corner of the Dining Room which was very quiet.

The afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise and bizarrely cheese and pickle! I felt cheese and pickle was a bit like pub or cafe food and would have thought cheese and cucumber might have been more apt for afternoon tea in a country house.

Tea was plentiful and served in silver pots with white china. There was a good selection of cakes but they were pretty average and I have enjoyed much more eye watering and hand decorated cakes at other venues. We also had a scone with cream and jam but they were slightly on the overcooked side.

The price was £16.25 per person which I guess is average these days. An enjoyable visit though.

Thanks for leaving a review, and sorry you were a a bit disappointed with the cheese and pickle sandwiches - most guests are happy with them, but we will review our selection in due course. Sorry that the scones were a little overcooked and I have mentioned this to chef to make sure it doesn't happy again. I hope you would consider returning in the future.

Our stay started very well with a helpful and friendly receptionist. An afternoon tea was enjoyed and then a period of relaxation in our well appointed room with excellent views of the garden backed onto a large Natioal Trust area which we had walked around prior to our arrival. The evening dinner was very good with nice touches to help celebrate my wife's birthday. A wide choice on the breakfast menu and we then sadly had to leave. A definite recommendation to friends and family.
