We visited for diner on Saturday evening. I had Scollops to start, halibut for main and a dark chocolate ganache for desert. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Everyone was really welcoming and attentive. We really enjoy our little breaks away to southwold and the Surherland House is a real treat.

Our 3rd time here and as usual, a warm welcome from Andy and his staff. Excellent food, very relaxing atmosphere, with the ambience of that historic building. Lovely walks to be had in and around Southwold. Many thanks Ian & Jo Willsher, Writtle Essex

Lovely food and a very comfortable room. Ideally placed to wander about Southwold and its environs. I have already booked a return visit. Sadly no marmite but what is to complain about here, nothing at all.

Stayed for one night and had some excellent food in their lovely restaurant. The staff are attentive and very helpful, the bedroom well appointed and comfortable - and the breakfast sent us away very satisfied! Highly recommended

Visited with family for a birthday meal, Sutherland House is beautifully presented and seems a very special place to visit for an occasion. The Prawn Laksa starter was well spiced and very tasty whilst the Sea Bass main was perfectly cooked, however the white wine needs to be more chilled. My wife's Halibut was also delicious. Staff very friendly and... More

Stayed for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and booked dinner in the hotel restaurant as they specialise in fish. We chose the smallest of the 4 rooms in the hotel and wished we had paid a little more and chosen a larger room as one side of the bed was against the wall necessitating climbing over the other... We had a wonderful meal in the Restaurant, thoroughly enjoying the perfectly cooked fish. The service was perfect, friendly and attentive but not at all intrusive. We are booked to return! And we would recommend booking up in advance, a very popular venue.

Rooms are well equipped with tea / coffee (cafetiere) , mini bar etc. We had a huge bath which is very nice but takes a while to fill !. Breakfast was very nice. Fresh fruit and yoghurt and your choice of cooked breakfast. Not cheap but then no where in Southwold is. It is right on the main street in... More

Stayed here for 2 nights for my 50th. Couldve gone anywhere the the world but we love Southwold and we needed somewhere family could visit. We had the smallest room which might be an issue for some. (other rooms are bigger if needed though) For us it was fine and lets face it we knew it was the smallest. Its... More

Lovely restaurant.....we have been many times before. The staff are so attentive even when the restaurant is full. The food is excellent and not overpriced, same with the wine. There is a lovely ambience about the building, and its history is fascinating.
