Detailed Reviews
Popped in just for drinks & was so amazed by the service we received that we ended up booking a table for later that night & going back for their date night. The date night deal was good you get 2 starters or desserts, 2 mains & £20 worth of drinks all for £50. The food is all locally sourced & fresh. Tommy who created us both times is so good at making you feel welcome & comfortable & went out of his way to make sure everything was top service. ( Tommy is easy on the eye aswell ). If your ever in or near battle you have to go here. We will definitely be back.

Booked here by telephoming a human being who made us feel we would be his personal guests. When our plans changes we had to cancel at 1 days notice which said human being accepted without question. Within minutes I got an email confirming the cancellation and that there would be no penalty. We can't wait to reschedule and whenever in Battle will only stay at the Chequers Inn.

Sunday night dinner for two. Great independent traditional pub with a modern twist of decor, food and music. Friendly service even at the end of a busy Sunday afternoon from the staff. Food was tasty and quick service. However, with the roasts off the evening menu the food choice was restricted

Stayed one night at the chequers in room facing the street.
The hotel is well situated near the town and high street with parking at the rear (very tight entrance).
The room was on the small side for a double and though clean etc had a somewhat dishevelled appearance. The bathroom was newish but again so small that you couldnt really change etc in there. The mattres also felt old and we didnt get a great sleep.
I cant really comment on service as we booked in at 3 and when we returned at about 9.30 the whole building seemed closed up with no one there at all. Began to think we were the only ones there all night. Didnt have breakfast.
So whilst it was OK for a night it really wasnt worth the £100 or more we paid.

What can you say that isn't 100% positive, The staff at the Chequers Inn are all extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in Room 1 a large family room that is very clean and tidy. The food was outstanding having eaten both breakfast and dinner during our stay.
The Pub is located just on the outskirts of the centre of Battle and about 500 yards from the entrance to Battle Abbey.
Thank you to all the staff we'll definitely be back one day.

We visited here at the end of April and had a very comfortable nights stay. Rooms are en suite and have super comfortable beds and pillows. The pub is over 500 years old so you must be forgiving when it comes to height of ceilings etc. Friendly courteous staff, car park, beer garden, covered outside seating area for smokers. Menu for both breakfast and evening meals is extensive. I loved the warm granola in the morning with yogurt and fruit! Highly recommended!

Booked in easily by Kerry then left case in room to meet a friend who was joining me for dinner
Good wine, very enjoyable meal then to the covered/ heated patio for more drinks conversation and a smoke
Got to closing time and the lovely Kerry had realised I was not booked in for this evening but the next as the guests who should have my room had called to apologise for being late and they would be there in a few minutes!!!
What a shock
Big does and little does I found last minute accommodation nearby
The moral of this tale is make sure you book the correct nights and read the confirmation
However the Chequers is a lovely Inn with good food, great staff and the rooms look very nice!
