So disappointed with this stay. Guesthouse tired and really needs some love. Our room was in the attic, a massive 55 step climb, and tiny. A lovely view out of the window, but this paled when dealing with zero storage space, a solid bed, tiny TV and a cigarette burned bedspread. Worst of all was the en-suite, with an ill-fitting sliding door that left a good inch gap on either side, affording the user absolutely no privacy whatsoever. This really doesn't work for me - my husband had to stand on the landing every time I used the bathroom. There's no excuse; a sliding door should fit as well as a traditional door if not done cheaply, and fitted professionally. The shower is so tiny it is barely usable; a small, cheap shelf would really help, for shower gel and shampoo, as there's very little room to keep bending down a retrieving these items. We did ask to move rooms, but the only alternative had the same set up, so pointless. The cooked breakfast on the first day was good, the poached eggs on the second day were barely edible. On the plus side, all staff encountered were very friendly. The guesthouse is for sale, which might explain the lacklustre stay. Its a real shame, with some love (and some money!), it could be lovely. …
Great location in Westcliff - close to seafront and tow centre with gardens in front. We had a sea view suite which was fine but carpets needed a good clean and a few details attention (more soap/shampoo in bathroom, wifi only 2 bars, slight small from drains). Breakfast was average - service speedy and pleasant.
Visited for quick getaway. Although the establishment was clean it had heavy musty smell. The breakfast was poor. The cereals were stale, juice was cheap supermarket grade. I had the fried eggs but couldn’t eat them. They were overdone and the oil they were cooked in smelled old. The staff were lovely and friendly but I couldn’t recommend this establishment.
We visited the tearoom only (not the guesthouse). We didn’t have a booking but luckily the staff found an extra table and 2 chairs so we could sit outside on the patio. It was lovely and peaceful sitting there. We ordered two salads for lunch and they were presented beautifully. Generous portions of ham and different cheeses. The cakes looked delicious and we can’t wait to go back for afternoon tea next time.
We had an amazing 2 nights at this lovely little guest house. Perfect location for exploring and sea views are great from the front. It is in a quiet location but only a 5 mins walk from the centre. Unfortunately the tea rooms were not open when we visited but there is so much choice you can eat anywhere. The room was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. We were really pleased with the breakfast offered and there was plenty of choice. We would recommend and if we return to Southend would not hesitate to stay again.
