We recently visited here for my wife's high school reunion. Why the person in charge of selecting a location picked this place no one knew. But, it was a mistake. There were approximately 32 people attending this reunion and there was no place for everyone to congregate and just sit and talk. The facility has a very large area off the front lobby; but seating for no more than 10 people. There is just a large open space with nothing! The food and service in their dining room was very good! That's where the good comments stop. Their bar is located in the dining room, which is not open to guests except during dining times (8-11 AM, 12-2 PM and 5-8 PM). So if you want to relax and have a drink after 8 PM you have to drive to a nearby town. Upon arrival our room key lock would not work properly. The maintence person told us we had to be very carefull not to let the door shut hard as that makes the lock assembly "move" and then it won't unlock with the key. He was correct. We heard later from housekeeping that they have problems like this and they hope the locks will be replaced soon! Next we noticed some of the pins missing in the draps on the window where they hook into the cord-drawn closure mechanism. We fould out why. The cord system is broken so if you want to open/close the draps you have to remove the pins and pull them by hand! Also the seal on one window (dual pane) was blown so the window is "fogged" and you can't see out. The most amazing thing we discovered was the toilet is not peoperly securred and moves slightly!! Plus it is very old, low to the floor and needs to be replaced with a comfort height toilet. The room is very dark; even with all the lights on! We were so disgusted we checked out a day early and went home.

Visited lodge and camped in their campground. I’ll have to say I wasn’t impressed with either . The lodge is falling apart and it appears their trying to do some renovations but it needs a lot. The campground was the same basically had no camp office or store and groceries and dining r miles away. Had a laundry that was locked up and trash dump station and water fill r all miles away from one another! When u turn on water at dump station it’s like a shower water flies out in all directions ! Needless to say we won’t b back .

We stayed for two nights at this state owned lodge and enjoyed our stay immensely. It provides a rural get away from the confines of a COVID l9 and is delightfully non-commercial. It is a 2 hour drive from Columbus but there is almost no commercial development around the lodge. Note: bring your own supplies. Our room was clean and well maintained. It was large and had a very comfortable couch for TV viewing. The bathroom was also clean and up to date. The bed was very comfortable and provided a great nights sleep. The Wifi was free but moderately slow The dining room overlooks the lake. You can eat your pancakes while watching the boats scurry along the lake. No billboards or other signs of commerce. All in all it was a very restful and restorative venue for the weekend . But remember to bring your own entertainment.

We stopped by Burr Oak and toured the lodge and had dinner there. The lodge has a beautiful setting over looking a lake. The lodge has 37 rooms and 25 cabins. The rooms are clean, well decorated. The whole facility is clean and looks new. The indoor pool area is great. Many opportunities to enjoy hiking, fishing and boating. The marina rents different types of boats...pontoon, kayaking & fishing boats. For dinner we ate at the lodge restaurant. We started with the cheese and pretzels. Nice and warm served with a white cheese. They were great. My son had the Burr Oak burger and homemade chips...he liked it and said it was good. My wife had the veggie burger with coleslaw. She liked it too. I had beer-battered fish with a dinner salad and coleslaw. It was good but I didn't care for the slaw. The service was good. Nothing fancy here. Looked like they offer a full bar too.

My fiance and I were going stir crazy due to the corona virus and needed a getaway so she booked a stay at the Burr Oak Lodge. I found the lodge and the surrounding area to be extremely beautiful. If you're in to hiking, fishing, boating, etc then give this place a try. If you aren't, then you might want to go somewhere else. The lodge is dated in areas, but again, its a lodge so this didnt bother us much. Our room was on the first floor in room 102 which is right around the corner from their dining area. Our room was extremely nice. It had been recently updated. See the attached photos. I would score the room a 5 out of 5, however there were issues with it. First, the room door wouldn't latch/lock on its own. I had to play with the door mechanism each time we entered/exited the room to get it to latch/lock which got annoying. Second, the shower/toilet area which had also been renovated had a huge mildew spot above the toilet. Third, the room had fleas. I woke up from a good night of sleep and put my feet on the floor and within a couple of minutes there were like 4 fleas on my legs and feet. Fourth, our room was located near their cleaning and maintenance staff offices. The walls in this place must be extremely thin because not only did they wake us all up, we could hear everything they were talking about. Fifth, their cleaning staff never paid us a visit even though we were right accross the hall from them. Because of these issues we ended up leaving a day early. I didn't report these issues to management because most of their staff do try to do a good job ecspecially during these trying times so I decided to give them a break. Plus, again, its a lodge so my expectations weren't high to begin with. The dining area was smaller then I expected. I was expecting something similar to the Mohican lodge, but its smaller. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, cozy and has some beautiful views. We enjoyed our meals, but you can tell they are struggling. I say this because it takes awhile to get your food plus they were running out of common items such as blue cheese salad dressing and certain alcohols/beers. The staff they do have try, but you can tell they need someone to lead them. They have a very limited menu, but what they have is good and the portion sizes are large. In conclusion, I would stay here again, just not in room 102. Hopefully this place can hang in there while the economy recovers because with some minor changes it could become something special.
