Detailed Reviews
We have just had a really lovely stay at the White Lodge hotel where the helpful staff couldn't have been friendlier. They were opening just after lockdown and had great measures in place including a safe one way system to maintain social distance and hand sanitiser around all parts of the building. Our room was fantastic, just refurbished in contemporary style (beautiful wallpaper) with a large balcony overlooking the sea and Filey Bay - it was glorious. We had 2 night's good sleep on the big comfy bed. There is a very well stocked bar and lovely lounge to sit and drink before going to the excellent restaurant for dinner. We heartily recommend the Yorkshire Breakfast and Smoked Fish in the morning! Locally sourced food got an extra tick from us. We also had lunch in the garden - waiter service and delicious. If you don't know Filey it's a great place to walk on the expansive beach (when the tide is out), maybe fish off the Brigg and do a bit of shopping in town.

The hotel has been rebuilt and renovated several times in its 200 year history.
Currently it has a spotless, quality and contemporary feel, but still retains many period features to honour its Victorian heritage and chequered history.
The restaurant and bar are sensibly priced, roughly in line with the town bars and quality restaurants. The menu (albeit a little limited in choice) is prepared to an excellent standard by the kitchen, the service at all times from the friendly staff was efficient without any pretentious fuss. They are a credit to the current management who seem to have got the balance just right.
The hotel was almost full when we stayed, but it still managed to feel cosy - especially as we relaxed by the log fire after dinner, watching and listening to the strong easterly wind whip up the sea in the bay down below.
Although the single lift is verging on antique and is only big enough to carry a couple of persons, with a small amount of baggage, it works just as well now as the day it was installed and long may it continue.
The only down side for us is the car parking. There are only four or five spaces depending on how considerate the fellow users are. There is free street parking allowed on the Crescent itself, but only one side of the road. During busy periods, even this is highly competitive as local residents join in the game.
A possible solution is to re-allocate the patch of grass between the conservatory and the hedge boundary of Glen Gardens currently set aside for al fresco drinking/dining. However, while this option may be feasible, it is perfectly understandable why this is not likely to happen any time soon.
A great team doing a great job. Keep it up.

We came with friends and booked two rooms on the second floor 26 and 27 they were both really nice. We stayed in the bigger room which if I remember correctly was number 27 this room has a king size bed also a bath with a shower, room 26 was smaller with a double bed and no bath I really think the smaller room should be cheaper as there was quite a difference between them.
The breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice and the dining room is s nice place to eat with lots of natural light and lovely views.
The outside seating area is a nice place to enjoy a drink.
The staff were all very friendly and chatty which was nice.

Myself and my husband stayed here for 4 nights earlier this month in room 1, which is classed as a suite with sea view the price was £220.00 per night, we didn’t have a child with us but even if we had it was still too expensive for the sea view to compensate, our breakfast was included, but we feel, after thinking about other places we have stayed, it needs a really big overhaul, especially the bathrooms, who has a shower curtain these days ?
When we go away and pay good money we expect similar bathroom facilities as we have at home.
The parking is a rip off, we paid for 4 nights parking at £10.00 per night, no space when we arrived, we sat for 49 minutes waiting after telling the guy on reception who said he would sort it but did nothing, it was only when another guest moved that we were able to park, so beware of this before you pay !!
The food is good, the bar is nice, but would never return due to the price of the room and the parking.
We did eventually get the parking charge refunded however

Great location, decent hotel but the showers are not hot unlike the tap water in the sink. Fortunately our stay coincided with some warm weather so a hot shower was slightly less of an issue.
Parking is another problem, they appear to have only 2 actual parking spots, which you have to reserve for £10 per day. The hotel claim there is ample parking on the street but on arrival I ended up parking 10 minute walk away, the day after I did find a closer spot.
Only had the breakfast which was nice enough, great views from the dining room.
One other gripe was the slamming of doors by other guests in the room next door, so loud!

Unfortunately the title of my review sums up our two night stay. We had room 5 which is situated at the front of the hotel with a beautiful view from the rooms balcony. That's about the only positive comment I am able to make. The hotel has apparently been taken over by a new owner and from what I understand it was just before lockdown. Parking at the hotel was non existent although I was informed that there were six bays which had to be pre booked at a cost of £10 a day. My husband did manage to find parking in an adjacent street but due to the volume of visitors to Filey it did take us a while to park. Our room (£182 per night) was nice and our view was amazing but I was disappointed with certain aspects including the quality of the bedding and the shower which was not powerful enough. The balcony was lovely and spacious although I had to pick up some debris which was left from the previous guests. Service in the restaurant was a shambles and the general manager was appalling. We had a conversation with a member of staff who informed us that she had handed her notice in and was leaving the hotel due to the lack of professionalism. Covid rules did not seem priority and I did not feel completely comfortable with how the staff were serving food etc. There was a sanitising station at the main entrance before entering and unfortunately it looked like the solution had been watered down. The food in the restaurant and the breakfast was very nice but waiting time ruined the experience. On the first morning I asked for brown sauce and was told they did not have any. Same question on the second morning and still no brown sauce, also overhead a gentleman at the next table ask for brown sauce and he was told the delivery had not arrived to which he replied " the shop down the road has brown sauce". To sum it up room 5 has an amazing view but the hotel is extremely overpriced and the staff (especially the general manager) need a bit more training. Also don't order a single malt whisky from the bar as it will cost you over £9 ! !

Response from White Lodge Hotel, Owner at White Lodge Hotel

We encourage you to click on this guests profile to discover that they are rather trigger happy with the 1 and 2 star buttons. There is in fact a catalogue of misleadings statemenst here. We won't dignify each chiefly spurious point with an answer, lets concentrate on the big one; the price of our Scotch! ;) We have a 12 year old Japanese Whisky at £9 a measure (but that's for a 35ml measure so adjusted for a standard measure that's £6.42). It's The Yamazaki from the Sunory Distillery and it is quite simply stunning. and costs £125 a bottle so in fact we should really put the price up! Our single malts start from £5.50 (£3.92 for 25ml) which is in fact, as informed travellers will know, exceptional value for a hotel bar.

We stayed for a couple of days midweek as a treat for my birthday. The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom needs updating, looks very dated compared with the restaurant bathroom. We requested an iron and ironing board, we received the iron but never received the ironing board, so in the end wore something else as we couldn’t wait any longer. The complimentary tea, coffee and water was refreshed daily, which was great. The shower gel, shampoo and conditioner weren’t replenished even though we had clearly finished them. We only noticed in the morning and we needed to leave early so didn’t have chance to ask for more.
We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Couldn’t fault the food, it was delicious. Staff were very friendly but service was chaotic, seemed like they needed extra help. One lady (seemed to be a manager) was trying to be attentive but looking after far too many tables. We felt sorry for her! We had sat in the lounge area for quite some time without being served, if we hadn’t had already booked dinner we would have left and ordered drinks elsewhere.
The premium price of the rooms etc did not reflect the service we would expect, which is a shame as the location is beautiful.

Great location next to the park, with a lovely view out to sea. Weather was glorious and we made good use of the outside area for afternoon drinks. Breakfast was outstanding and we had a nice meal in the restaurant on Sunday evening, although the menu was a little limited from other days. They coped well with Covid restrictions and we felt safe. They could have been more thorough with the outside table hygiene, by collecting glasses more and disinfecting between each set of customers, but I guess they were a bit overwhelmed with the large number of local visitors to the patio. Slight negatives of parking is problematic and they ran out of cider and pinot on the Sunday.

We stayed in good accommodation on our weeklong walk through the glorious countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds, but our adventure was crowned by a night in this beautiful hotel with every comfort provided for the traveller in a stunning location on the cliff top. The welcome was warm in characteristic Yorkshire style. The room was tastefully decorated, in a style that delicately alluded to the seaside setting, and the dimensions of both bathroom and bedroom were generous. We enjoyed a superb, celebratory evening meal, and because of a late checkout time were able next morning to explore the immediate surroundings after enjoying a leisurely breakfast. I would really like to return for a longer stay.

My wife and I have just spent bank holiday at the white lodge hotel and I have to say we had a lovely experience whilst there. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. When we got there it was quite late in the evening and we had not eaten since lunch, the girl who checked us in was so helpful she even managed to get us an evening meal in the hotel. We had two evening meals in all and both meals were lovely and well worth the money we paid
( compliments to the chef's). We thought that the bar staff were also really nice and friendly too and couldn't do enough for you.
The room we stayed in was spotless clean it had a lovely sea view. If i had had to make any negative comment this would be that the room could do with brightening up a little.
All in all we had a great weekend and would definitely go back again.

They have 3 private spaces out front but you need to pre book them and pay. Well worth it in busy dates because the road parking was busy when we were there in summer.
But the road is free / you take your chance.
We felt parking was worth paying for. Less hassle.
Lovely hotel. Loved it there. Amazing views and lovely rooms. Get a sea view/balcony if you can. X
