Detailed Reviews
There is an exceptional welcome here, and the building itself is a superb late Victorian delight, with original joinery work in immaculate condition , and fantastic fireplaces.
The hotel is maintained beautifully, and is very convenient both for arrival and for access to town centre amenities. A very comfortable stay; the presence of an iron and ironing board in the room was particularly useful.
An excellent breakfast was the best possible start to the day, and overall very good value for what was provided.

A lovely building inside and out, Owner Mrs McQuade very friendly and helpful. Breakfast perfectly cooked although if all you want is cereal the options are limited, cornflakes, rice crispies, muesli spring to mind, although I suspect Mrs McQuade would probably go out of her way to oblige if you asked for something. Everything a little quaint - China cups in the room along with biscuits and sweets, but perfectly clean and well ordered. An easy 10 -15 minute walk into Kettering and two convenience stores within 5 minutes walk. Would definitely recommend.

Arrived and parked in our pre arranged car parking space. Was met by the lovely owner Jackie who showed us into the lounge where she explained everything and took our order for breakfast the next day. We was then shown to our room in the coach house which was perfect for our overnight stay.
It was an easy walk into the town centre.
We had a wonderful night's sleep and then made our way next door to the dining room where the perfectly cooked breakfast was served to us by Jackie's daughter. There was everything we needed and breakfast was delicious.
Thank you both for your friendliness and attentive service. It was our pleasure to meet you both.
If you are staying in Kettering then I can highly recommend this charming period house owned and run by Jackie and her daughter.

Firstly the owners the McQuades are lovely could not ask for better host, and I apologise for this review.
However I was disappointed with my stay for the following reason.
We stayed in the top floor room of the coach house. Our first impression was none of the furniture match, and it was from the 1970's.
The showers was an experience, they have convert a small alcove behind the door into a shower. It was small and had no light, and when you showered the curtain keep touching you.
The bed was extremely comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep.
We paid £95 for the room including breakfast, which was very nice. But the room did not justify the cost of £95 - it should have been more like £50.
As mentioned before the host are lovely, but the hotel needs some TLC. And the rooms need matching furniture.

Four of us (2 couples) traveled to Kettering in May of 2007 and stayed with Mrs. McQuade at the Hawthorn House Hotel. For my sister and I this was our second stay here, as we had stayed there with out mother in 2004. Both times we have stayed here, we have received the utmost in hospitality!
Both times we rented out the Coach House, or Annexe. This building is to the rear of the main house, and if you rent both the upstairs and downstairs rooms, you really have your own place! The downstairs room has a double bed, the upstairs has 2 twin beds. Each is spacious and has a private bath. The downstairs room has a fridge, both have a color TV. The rooms are very clean and neat, and beautifully decorated with antiques. Mrs. McQuade keeps the rooms stocked with all kinds of teas, coffees and yummy chocolate biscuits.
The main house has, I believe, an additional three bedrooms. Breakfast is served each morning in the dining room of the main house, and is simply wonderful!! Mrs. McQuade will make you just about anything under the sun (my favorite is boiled eggs and soldiers), and if she doesn't have something like fruit or yogurt in the house, she'll try to get it especially for you for the next day. And the hot meal comes after the first course, which is your choice of cereal and orange juice, and is followed by a third course of toast and jam.
The house and rooms are just gorgeous, and you really won't find a nicer hostess than Mrs. McQuade. The hotel is located on the corner of Hawthorn Road and London Road. There is a News Agent's shop, a laundromat and the post office just down the road, about a 2 minute walk. The train station is about a 10 minute walk. The shops and restaurants are a bit further into town. We walked the whole time we were there, and we did get a bit tired by the end of the day, so you may want to rent a car, but if you're a good walker it's all very convenient and do-able. There is a car park if you have a rented car. The Earl of Dalkeith Pub is an excellent place for dinner, and is maybe about 1/2 mile down the road on London Road. We had a key for the outside of the Coach House as well as a key for our room. There's plenty of lighting, and the hotel is in a safe part of town.
Overall, we have had 2 excellent experiences here. The rates are very reasonable (we paid 54 pounds per couple per night), the service and hospitality, not to mention the food, are all excellent!

My girlfriend and I were in a bit of trouble for accommodation and called the hotel on the day we needed a room. The owner was very helpful and understanding. We had a lovely stay in a beautiful bedroom. Breakfast in the morning was perfect.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and will go back if I go to kettering again.

Hi Hohn, I am happy to say that we do have off road parking. You can see a photograph of our car park on our website. The car park can fit four cars.
