we live locally and this is one of our favourite places for eating out. The decor is lovely, the staff are friendly and efficient, and the food is absolutely beautiful! I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding which is home made and sourced locally, and the sticky ginger pudding is even better if that is possible! So save some space!

From the outside looks like an ordinary pub but it has a gorgeous back dining area with lovely decor and lighting and a great menu with a superb selection of meals. Not standard pub grub. Loved it. Slow roast belly pork and mash with fresh chives.

Our first visit to Alnwick, loved the town and surrounding areas. Was made all the better by the evening meal we had in the Tavern. My wife and I were after some comfort food and the meal was excellent. Nothing complicated and every aspect including the wine , ambience and attentive manager were spot on. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Just excellent in every way... Evening meal and drinks - perfect. We shared the 32oz tomahawk rib with all the trumings, and it was the best steak ever. Great hospitality, great staff - can't wait to visit again.

Placed very conveniently in town centre and near castle and looks very appealing however rooms very average. No breakfast provided which was not clear online so do not feel £70 price of accommodation good value considering stays at other places for similar prices included breakfast and better quality bedding. Management inefficient. Husband served wrong drink at the bar and inaccurate...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
