Lovely food. Partner and I had the plater to share, it was beautiful and full of Northumberland local produce. My partner had duck and it was amazing, cooked to perfection. I had the fish and homemade chips which was huge and lovely. Sadly no space for puddings. Will definitely return.

Had Sunday lunch and everything was beautifully cooked. The staff were very friendly. Very reasonably priced as well. Really enjoyed visiting today and would definitely recommend to anyone. Also very dog friendly here

We very nearly walked past this pub, but we were lured in by the board outside offering traditional Northumberland food. The pub bar was peaceful and welcoming and once we'd ordered 2 much needed pints, we moved up to the dining area. The tables were well laid out, and was a start of things to come. The menu was inviting...

Spent 3 days in Alnwick and had first evening meal here. Loved it that much we booked for the following evening. Food great and very reasonable. Staff very friendly especially Andy, a fellow Yorkshireman. We were made to feel at home straight away and will definitely eat there again on future trips. Can highly recommend

On holiday in the area we had been to Alnwick Castle and wanted a late lunch (15:45). We wandered the streets and found that all the cafes had stopped serving food and the other pubs in the town were not really appropriate for our teenage son and our dog. We walked into the Market Tavern and were cheerfully told that...

Having given up hope of finding a post 3pm Sunday roast we fell into the Market Tavern and was greeted with a warm friendly welcome, a full Sunday menu and a great selection of beers. The brisket was beautifully tender and the pork belly juicy and succulent. Both were generous portions and the service was swift. A great find.

Have stayed here before so chose to stay here again. Has had quite an upgrade in the bar, restaurant and toilets, which were all immaculate. Stayed in room 3 at the front of the Tavern. A twin en-suite room, with lots of storage if you were staying for some time. The room was well presented with very comfortable beds and...

Stayed at a place across the street but they recommended this place for dinner. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Server was admittedly new, but did a great job anyway (and learned that Brandy Alexander is a drink, not a cake) :) All in all, definitely recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
