Had an evening meal here during our stay in Alnwick. The 'Bistro' is in the hotel which has another restaurant, mainly frequented by the hotel guests (I think). The word 'bistro' conjures up in my mind a slightly continental atmosphere, cosy candlelit corners, subdued music. As we entered the hotel, looking for the menu (it wasn't displayed outside), I felt...

check in ok when receptionist appeared & everything explained well. Room cramped & smelled of damp. Toilet so cramped it was necessary to sit sideways. Bed rickety with lumpy mattress. Dinner a bit scary Wonderful panelling in dining room. One very attentive & capable waiter, but the rest obviously not trained ( including one who was sweating profusely even on...

Good location and room was reasonably sized. Comfy bed, but no in-room climate/temperature control so got v stuffy v quickly. Good set of amenities, but noisy and rooms are not very sound proof. The room i stayed in in particular was at the top of the corridor so I was woken up fairly early despite a late night. Dining room...

We went to The White Swan Hotel for our 2nd afternoon tea. The first time we went was last August and it was the best afternoon tea we have ever had and this is why we returned. It was a Sunday afternoon at about 3.30 - 4pm. There was one or two members of staff working in the bar/restaurant and...

The staff throughout were so friendly and our recently refurbished room extremely comfortable so it's a shame I cannot give this hotel a better review. It is obvious they are short-staffed - a notice on the door advertises a vacancy. The windowsill next to our table in the restaurant was thick with dust. As we sat in the bar we...

Dear Reviewer, Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry that not all aspects of your stay where satisfactory. In relation to being understaffed, I appreciate your guidance in how to staff/run the hotel. Our vacancy at the time was for housekeeping staff. Whilst the hotel was incredibly busy it is no excuse to provide...

As a base for exploring the Northunberland & Border Counties; this hotel became an integral part of a coach holiday provided by the Majestic Coach Company. The location of the hotel was central within Alnwick and overlooked the Castle and Gardens. Accomodation was of a high standard and the restuarant provided quality food options and excellent service.
