Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Booked at this hotel as I was attending an event in Worksop the next day so thought a hotel at a fairly basic price to ensure I was fresh the next day was a good idea.
I was wrong.
Upon arrival I had to ring a mobile number to enter to reception. First point where eyebrows were raised.
Signed a declaration which included the following:
- All guests had to be back by 10:30pm or else it would cost you £10ph as you had to ring the manager to let you back in - Checkout was at 10am (10:30am according to Expedia). If you are late after this point it would cost you £10ph
None of this was detailed in the original booking.
The room was OK, it was dated but roomy. Standard facilities including tea/coffee, kettle, TV, shower etc...
However:
- The kettle was caked in limescale at the bottom so I was definitely not using it -appliances including said kettle and heater not tested for electrical safety since 2015 -Shower head holder broken so had to hold throughout.
The manager was nice so not blaming it all on him, however he is responsible for feedback and I wish I read the reviews on TA before booking. For the sake of an extra £5 I should've booked at the Travelodge 5 mins away. It's basic, within a A1 service station but can guarantee rooms are much better looked after.

The hotel is effectively an old best western, the name has been etched off the doors and looks like the new owner bought the fixtures and fittings with it - as such it’s all just a bit tired
It’s cheap you get parking and WiFi, looks like it’s run by one person as such attention to detail is lacking and sporadic at best
Example - there’s a kettle but no milk and no tea bags just a coffee sachet & sugar
The heating was off so it was pretty cold, even the towel radiator wasn’t on
I was the Only person staying there with what... 80 rooms? So it’s weird yes
One problem is the place is very misrepresented, it’s images on booking sites are quite old, they all state it has a restaurant 24h reception and breakfast, all of which don’t exist
With an airport down the road you would expect it to be busy, looking at the photos on booking site you would expect the same as I did without reading reviews on here. If the place was better represented the reviews would be fairer and perhaps trade would increase.
Must be difficult for the owner with so little trade but you still have to make the effort and make folk feel welcome and personally the owner does, the building however doesn’t
Note on the door saying ring for reception ( be at reception. Folk don’t want to ring about to get let in at 8pm) Cold rooms ( stick the heating on!) Clutter left in the restaurant ( yeah it’s closed but clean it up) Minimal lighting left on Lacking Entrance signs Lack of tea bags!
These are all quick wins and will see trade improve, but looking at reviews nothing has changed in a few years so it’s only going to spiral worse as people struggle to book based on the poor reviews
Also offer breakfast, and deep clean the rooms ( they’re cleanish on the surface just dusty corners etc through lack of deep cleaning)
Would I stay again? Unfortunately not with a travel lodge up the road, but offer breakfast and you have a better usp, anyone can cook a breakfast :) apron up! At the minute your relying on just being the cheapest while your competitors offer a better experience they will always win hands down for the sake of £10
Re brand yourself stick it on social media, aim at airport users, contractors / business and contact them locally ( you really need breakfast though) - good luck

If only someone with experience could take hold of this place and turn it around. I live very near and in the past it was very exclusive, perhaps the prices got too expensive. The grounds were beautiful especially for weddings and functions. There are other lovely places to stay near that kept their prices reasonable, so with the climate at the moment you have to be realistic. It badly needs a refurbishment. I drive past every day and it upsets me to see such a beautiful place going to ruin. Blyth is a lovely village and very select so staying near the village would be a bonus.

Having decided to stay here despite the feedback that was my first mistake. This hotel needs closed altogether there is so many issues with it. Bedroom with missing window (boarded up) no central heating in the place the general manager gave me a fan heater which in mid winter is in effect a hair dryer the carpets are worn, fire alarm panel is flashing red yet no siren, lights appear to be broken hence the need for a stand lamp, curfew on a night. If you are looking for anywhere to stay the HMP Nottingham have rooms which are more suitable which is better suited. I dont ever give negative feedback unless its absolutely warranted. Hopefully the hotel firm that advertised this place will refund the full amount if not well I will name and shame those too disgrace.

I was booked into this hotel for business. When I arrived the car park was empty and the hotel looked a bit run down. I walked up to the door and had to phone a number to get in (great start I thought, very welcoming!). I tried to check in and they did not have my booking although bed and breakfast was paid for. I waited 10 mins for a room to be made up. I was told the restaurant was closed but they would serve me breakfast and arrangement were made at a local pub for dinner. The room was dusty and needed a good clean. The bathroom was grubby with crisps behind the door?! The bedding and towels were clean. Tea and coffee was just thrown on the side. The gentleman that owned the hotel was friendly, but a bit over friendly and made me feel a bit uncomfortable especially when asking about my marital status! Breakfast was served in the restaurant (which I was told was closed??). As I was being shown to the restaurant , yet again I was made to feel uncomfortable by the gentleman saying how lovely I looked (yes a compliment, I know but not when you've already been quizzed over your marital status). Breakfast wasn't brilliant and felt a bit awkward sat in an empty hotel. I was served a bowl of fruit, watery porridge, yogurt and some bread thing. I quickly ate what I could stomach ( there was a suspect hair on the table!) and left and checked out.
There were no staff and no other guests, although I was assured 4 others were staying. Not sure how they got there as it was an empty car park.
I should never have stayed there and if I wasn't so tired from the travelling and work I had done that day I would have just gone to a different hotel.

We booked the room for a company director as we have previously used Charnwood which we found to be very profession and stayed there on more than one occasion. Cherry Park hall however is the most unprofessional set up known to man. We stayed at the hotel on the 3rd August 2016 and today we are still awaiting an invoice (15/08/2016) they have not provided us with any paper work at all! That said we paid for breakfast on our room booking and we are still awaiting this also!! we got offered a cup of Coffee! Apparently they hired a chef in especially to cook the breakfast ( clearly they do not employee anyone!!!) when called to complain they stated that breakfast was offered.. if this was the case why did the customer leave the hotel extremely hungry?? I am today calling to request an explanation and a copy of the invoice and I have now been on hold for 15mins so back to my point above Staff at the Cherry Park Hall is clearly an added bonus or they all have the same day off and forget to leave someone in charge! will not be recommending any time in the future - if you are in the area looking for a hotel I would recommend : The Crown hotel Bawtry same price better service. The red Lion Todwick - Cheaper price much better service. The travel lodge at Blyth services better price and they advertise the fact you cant order breakfast! the back seat of your car and a sleeping bag..... Any other the above option are of a better choice of sleeping arrangement

Responded Sep 5, 2016
Management have checked and found that an email receipt was sent however if the guest has not received it we will be happy to resend on request. Management made arrangement for breakfast for this guest however either the hotel failed to offer breakfast or the guest failed to request breakfast that morning, but did requested f coffee, which was served. In either case we are sorry that our guest left without breakfast and we shall be pleased to offer complimentary breakfast next time.

Do not go anywhere near this hotel. Reserved a room on B&B basis. Also requested dinner reservation in the bar. Advised hotel being refurbished and restaurant will be open in time for our stay. Arrived to find kitchen, restaurant and bar not open. we were the only car in the car park and nobody else staying there. Cancelled our stay and went elsewhere. I discovered that the £69 B&B rate had been taken on the day of making the reservation and we were staying 3 weeks later. It is without doubt the worst hotel experience I have had in 40 years of travelling.

This hotel is beyond Fawlty towers levels of incompetence. It sounds no better than back in May when we arrived to a cold room and a night manager who offered us cans of beer. Unless you really want an unforgettable experience for all the wrong reasons simply avoid it.
The owner should get out of the hotel business or get the hotel inspector in ! It's a tough business..low occupancy and high fixed costs must make it easy to snowball into declining standards but ultimately you are letting unsuspecting members of the public down.
The name change from the charnwood hotel changes nothing .

I booked three rooms here but we couldn't stay in the rooms as they were too dirty and full off insects of the roach type. Stay away from here at all costs....We spoke to the manager who refused to refund our room and booked a Hotel near by.

I had the misfortune to book this ramshackled Motel due to feeling too ill to complete my journey back north.
I booked via bookings.com who did not have any reviews on there website. The pictures looked okay and the price of £35 looked to good to pass up.
Unfortunately it was too good to be true, the saying you get what you pay for in life has never been truer!
The owner/manager/cleaner/receptionist was not unduly unpleasant but had I not been ill I would have not stayed based on his appearance alone.
The reception area looked dirty, messy and had a distinctly unpleasant smell. This only got worse as I was marched to my room, passing through corridors with the wall paper literally falling off due to damp.
Once at my room, the owner checked that my toilet flushed and noticed that I needed a towel and some toilet roll... which he duly sulked off to get. On his return he informed me that should I wish to use the bathroom facilities then I would need to close the door, as the smoke alarm was very sensitive to condensation. Given the fact that the shower produced less water than a well in the Sahara, with significantly less heat I think it would have been difficult to create any condensation.
Any way the room had a funky smell, and not the pleasant type... the bin was also still full from the previous guests rubbish. I had to share with a number of Bugs and critters.
On a positive note I was that ill and tired I fell asleep instantly and because I was on of perhaps 3 or 4 other guests had a quiet nights sleep.
Check out was seamless , as in there was no one around, I left my door card and legged it...
Best advice, if you want an authentic ‘Bates’ motel experience it’s worth every penny!!!
