It should have been obvious from other reviews - and from four large new external catering trucks in the car park that we were in for a gastronomic treat. The owner Yoann is exceptionally helpful and the Head Chef Cedric a true master at his craft. The food and the service are simply exceptional. And, yes, the rooms are a little basic but extremely comfortable with proper black out blinds and silent a/c - and our overlooked the pool and had a little balcony with a table and 2 chairs. Utterly charming and a lovely pool. The village is beautiful and the river Dropt quite stunning and where we took a picnic (thank you again Yoann and Cedric) on a kayak (rented 100m from the hotel) up the river. Not a sole in sight for miles and a wonderful river to swim in. Really this should be in most people's 10 things to do before they die. Certainly I could not recommend this hotel, the restaurant, staff and owner highly enough. Many thanks to you all…
We eat here regularly and it is always very good especially Sunday lunch when it is at its busiest. It’s the only restaurant and hotel in the village although there is a bar in the small square where you can have bar food.
The restaurant we had intended to visit was packed out (a great recommendation for a future - booked! - visit!), so we followed some others to L'Etape Gasconne. We were only out for a meal, so have no comment to make about the hotel aspect of the venue. We loved the sense of peace and quietness. The staff were very friendly, and the elder of the two waitresses spoke some English (my French is passable, but this always helps!). The first course of soup was served in a tureen - more than sufficient for four healthy eaters. For the second course, we served ourselves from a well-stocked buffet area. We could, of course, return for 'seconds'! The Main course, and the dessert were served plated. The steak that three of us had ordered, and the turkey that the fourth member of the party had chosen, were all delicious. My Crème Brulée was superb! Water was, of course, served and topped up, as was the basket of delicious baguette. Alcoholic beverages were also available, as was coffee at the end of the meal. These latter drinks were charged separately, but the Menu du Jour was a very welcome €13.90 each. Excellent value for money, in our opinion. This is certainly a restaurant to which we will be happy to return.…
Disappointing to say the least. We have attended the etape several time but this time we did not have the same pleasant experience. The soup was delicious. The buffet section didnt suit me, but my friends loved the array of shell fish. I was disappointed with the prawns which hadnt be deveined, and the smoked salmon was not as fresh looking as it could have been. MY main course was meant to have peen pave magret, bien cuit, it wasnt as I had ordered and our waitress pointed out that if bien cuit it should be "more cooked" I said it would be okay, so it is my fault that I was disappointed. One of our party had the lamb chops whch she said was delicious, so although I have said disapponted, that was my opinion on My main meal. THe cheese board was also very good. The Isle flotant dessert was very good. we will visit again next year though!…
We had spent the Sunday morning sightseeing in the area and had left it rather late to decide to lunch somewhere. We found this restaurant by chance and it was certainly a lucky find. Though it must have been towards the end of their serving time they were only too pleased to find us a table for 6.The restaurant was very busy and our experience proved why. A set menu which had a buffet choice for starters ( what an array of food to choose from) followed by some lovely main dishes then tasty deserts including my favourite Isle Flottant. Superb lunch
