Our recent overnight stay at The Wynnstay Hotel was extremely enjoyable. We travelled by motorcycle and were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who enquired if we'd had a good ride there. We were directed to our room which was very nicely decorated - comfy chairs, comfy bed, plenty of pillows, good sized tv, and a bathroom with everything we needed. Down to the bar for a much needed beer where we could sit outside and enjoy the last of the sun. We had booked a table at the hotel restaurant intending to have their hanging kebabs but when we checked the menu it had changed. Because it was Sunday they do a reduced menu including Sunday roasts - none of it to our liking - so we cancelled the booking. If we had eaten there I think it would have been very good as our breakfast next morning was excellent. Cereal, fresh fruits, juice, tea/coffee and your choice of a variety of cooked breakfasts. Service throughout was very efficient and friendly and we'd certainly recommend this hotel. The hotel also has a gym and swimming pool but we didn't get chance to use them. We had booked this as a deal through TravelZoo and it included tickets for entry to Powys Castle and gardens which was also really interesting and enjoyable.

Just returned home from a two night stay at this excellent hotel. We arrived early but we're able to access our room before the alloted time of 4pm. Very friendly warm greeting from the receptionist. Dinner on the first night was included in our deal and was very good. The good sized room was well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, clean , comfortable and with plenty of electrical sockets for recharging phones etc and in particular my wife liked that she could use the hairdryer and the mirror at the same time! There was plenty of choice at breakfast including a full English. On both mornings and the waiting staff were attentive and friendly. If you are looking for a relaxing welcoming friendly hotel then I highly recommend this centrally located hostelry in Oswestry. PS...my wife noticed a minor issue with the Coachmans Inn Ltd website which she reported to a manager and within minutes Simon in the companies IT department had fixed it. Thus proving the company listens to its customers!!...

This was a last minute visit to Oswestry and I was lucky to find the Wynnstay. The central location is a real boon, and the secure private parking gives one peace of mind about leaving a vehicle. I had dinner and breakfast, both of a very high quality and both accompanied by attentive but not intrusive service. The room was quiet, well appointed and well equipped. A good night's sleep. Really enjoyed my brief stay, and if I return to the area would love to stay again, for a longer period, making use of the full suite of amenities.

Great customer service , tasty food , spotless rooms and communal areas and bar area really comfortable - free parking too. Do not miss this place. Just round the corner from the town centre, we booked last minute and got a great deal. Evening meal was fabulous and all of the staff we met were extremely charming and helpful

Booked a room with booking.com a month before visit. It claims to be dog friendly but a day after booking get an email and phone call saying the isn't dog friendly. So ask if we can book another room and they say we've got NO DOG FRIENDLY rooms This was a month before our visit and there were leads of choice of different rooms If they don't take dogs don't waste peoples time booking and PAYING for the room only to be told we've got No dog friendly rooms Although it maybe a case of who you speak to because we've stayed several times without incident

Dear Gordon. I apologise for the delayed reply. I have investigated and found there appears to have been a misunderstanding, mainly on our part in communication. We are dog friendly and have selected bedrooms to accommodate. In the case of your booking, you booked via booking.com a suite and noted in the special requests you were to bring a dog. Unfortunately this particular room does not accommodate dogs. I have noted on your previous stays it does not appear you have visited with the little one. Please accept my sincere apologies for the failure in communication. Yours sincerely Chris General manager

Called in for something to eat. The place has had a re-fit.
Ordered sandwiches off the “artisanal” list so expecting a decent sandwich for my wife and myself.
One steak, blue cheese and mushroom and one “open avocado, roasted pepper and hummus” wrap.
Both came with fries but in my experience that usually means six fries in a small wire basket cage which go cold before they hit the table; so I ordered a side of fat chips.
The good bit - there was a decent serving of fries served in a normal metal pot so they stayed warm. The steak was well cooked.
The average bit. Not sure the steak sandwich had blue cheese in it. We had to ask for the order of fat chips half way through eating the meal.
The poor bit. Not sure there was any avocado in the wrap. What the “open” refers to in the description, it was just a wrap and a VERY small one at that.
Tesco meal deal wraps are much bigger and tastier. It was cut in half into two 2 inch long pieces.
All well and good but I paid £10 for something which could not compete with a meal deal.
Be aware also that one half of the restaurant is tee-total.

We stayed for one night on a Secretescapes DBB offer. Unfortunately, there was no mention of a refurb on the Secretescapes website.
I’m sure this hotel will be lovely once it’s completed, but at the moment it’s disjointed and soulless. In the main hotel building, there is a small reception desk, manned by one person, that is located next to the stairs that lead up to the bedrooms. There is also a lovely dining room that is used to serve breakfast, but sadly not dinner?? The rest of the hotel is being refurbished and there are signs everywhere saying wet paint!
Bedroom The bedrooms have already been refurbished and are really lovely. They are decorated and dressed in keeping with the period of the building. There is a nespresso coffee machine as well as a good selection of Teapigs teabags , decaffeinated as well as caffeinated coffee bags, Cadbury hot chocolate, biscuits and bottles of still water. There is also a bottle of lavender and camomile calming pillow spray and a notebook and pen.
Bathroom The bathroom has also been refurbished and everything is nice and fresh with full sized Organic Lifestyle shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. Robes and slippers are also provided.
Dinner The restaurant is currently being refurbished so dinner was served in a bar next door called Wilson’s. Although the food was nice enough, the bar was very basic and wasn’t what we had hoped for on a hotel night away. There was a large TV on the wall showing a soap opera and most people in there were having drinks. There was only 3 tables having food and unfortunately, the table across from us had some youngsters on it and one of them was extremely drunk/high and was very loud and was swearing a lot. It really wasn’t the sort of ambience you expect when having dinner in a hotel. However, I have to mention the waitress, Claudia, who was so cheerful, friendly and efficient- she really lifted the atmosphere and is an absolute credit to the hotel!
Breakfast Breakfast was served in a lovely room and would have provided a more fitting dining experience if dinner had also been served in this room! We were welcomed by the wonderful Claudia, who has had 2 mentions because she made such a positive impact on our stay! In addition to help yourself fruit juice and cereals, there was a menu with a good selection of served items to choose from. The breakfasts were well presented and very tasty.
Spa The spa is fairly small but it had a decent sized pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. It was very quiet in there with just 4 other people using the facilities so it was very relaxing. There was also a gym which we didn’t use and they also offer beauty treatments which we didn’t use either.
Overall, we had a very mixed experience. We enjoyed the spa, the food was good and the bedrooms were lovely. However, while it is in the process of being refurbished, it is lacking any ambience and serving dinner in Wilson’s in our opinion, was a big mistake!

The hotel is beautiful. The food was delicious and the staff were very attentive to our needs in more ways than one. Also I would like to take this opportunity to thank the kind young long haired gentleman who helped me with my case/luggage. Very much appreciated.
However, the room allocated to us was disappointing. At some point in the early hours of Saturday morning, we had no ceiling lights. The electrics were working, but not the ceiling lights. The bathroom towel rail was cold and the radiator in the bedroom was cold also, so this now explains why there is a floor standing heating appliance. To add to this inconvenience we had NO hot water to shower. It was lukewarm.
We mentioned these inconveniences to the duty manager at breakfast on the Saturday morning, who got the lights working only. After a day exploring the surrounding area, we came back thinking we would be able to shower and refresh, but sadly nothing had changed. No hot water, no warm towel rail or radiator either and the weather was cold outside. When we went for our evening meal, we mentioned this cool shower to the receptionist who very kindly offered to look into this matter. She agreed that it wasn't to the standard it should have been as the adjacent room was very hot. She did offer to give us a key to use the other room's facilities in the morning, but we did not wish to do this, as you go away expecting everything to work to a satisfactory level. We told her we would shower etc when we got home, which is what we have done.
The Wynnstay Hotel is advertised as a luxury hotel, but our experiences did not match this statement at all. We paid in full at the time of booking, so with this, the hotel did not fulfill its commitments to our stay. Also, we are used to lovely snug comfortable bedding, but this bed was hard and so were the pillows.

Just got back from a wonderful 4 night stay at this hotel. Everything was tip top. Staff so friendly and informative if you were going out for the day, plenty of tips. After a day out exploring it was lovely to come back to the welcoming bar or the luxurious restaurant. Had a free dinner and afters for my birthday which was nice. Prices were good for food and drink. From the minute we arrived til we left we were treated brilliantly by all the staff who work so hard, all with a smile on their faces. The room was lovely, clean and felt luxurious, what you’d expect. Tea and coffee facilities, nespresso machine and a Roberts DAB radio too. Bath towels were large and soft, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner all laid on too. The coffee shop was a nice addition and the maltesers in a shot glass was a nice touch! All in all we would highly recommend you to stay here for a wonderful, relaxing break. There is large car park at the rear with access to the hotel from rear. Places we visited from here were Llangollen for the Aqueduct, Powys Castle, Llanfair Steam Train, Shrewsbury Prison Tour, Sabrina Boat Cruise on River Severn and The British Ironworks on our way home. All well worth a visit.

We stayed for two nights at The Wynnstay, on a Travelzoo deal, which included tickets for entry to Powis Castle. I have to say that this one of the very best deals we have enjoyed over many years. For me, everything about this Hotel is absolutely excellent! The free car park at the rear of the hotel is spacious and secure. Check in was seamless, thanks to the lovely Claire, who is the consummate professional. A small issue with our room was sorted with the minimum of fuss. All areas of the hotel are comfortable, and the decor is beautiful. Our room was immaculately clean, with lots of extras to make our stay even more enjoyable. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom (particularly the shower) was good, with big fluffy white towels. The breakfasts are top quality, with plenty of choice. Evening dinner was also a treat. Excellent choices, and all totally delicious! The service provided by the wonderful staff is excellent. Attention to every detail is given, without being intrusive. In fact, all the staff throughout the hotel (managed by the excellent Chris), are friendly and thoroughly professional, and all have the ability to make you feel most welcome. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, it’s an experience to be enjoyed. We also enjoyed the town of Oswestry, and the lovely surrounding area. We hope to return one day, in the not too distant future.
