My husband and I stumbled upon this amazing place through Google. What a find it was. The idea was to climb Cadair Idris on my husband's birthday. However, looking at the weather forecast that week. We realised the weather wasn't looking too good on that day. We phoned them up, to ask if we could arrive a day earlier, so...

Congratulations Luana! You have the dubious honour of posting our first review of our 2017 season and what an amazing one it is! It was our pleasure to have you both to stay here and it was no trouble to let you arrive a day early so you could conquer Cadair Idris. Your pictures from the day are superb and...

Our meal was delicious and our breakfast set us up well for our walk up cadair idris. John offered us lots of advice and alternative...

Less than a 2 mile level walk from the front door of the B&B to the car park ar Cadair Idris. The walk is picturesque, along a lake, and a small section on a B road. You can book in for a set 4 course evening meal and alcohol is served. The food is good, especially the salmon and prawn...

We really enjoyed our stay! The hosts were very welcoming and gave some good tips as to activities and walks. The rooms were nice and warm and the view of the lake was beautiful. The meals were delicious, especially the dinners and we were allowed to have not all of the courses for a cheaper price which was very convenient....

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday here and it was a pleasure to welcome you both into our home. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
