I called in on spec for a meal with my partner, I thought the pub had “character”. Ordered the baked camembert platter starter which was nice, not much can go wrong with melted cheese and bread, we both enjoyed that. Some items on the main menu were not available, so we both had the Hawaiian gammon, I think it’s the...

We were told by friends that the management had changed and the menu was new and food very good..so we gave it a try. The menu was very good lots of choice all sounded lovely...we chose the rump steak on a sizzler and the gammon steak...well the "rump steak" was like a thick slice off a roasting joint and the...

Whilst ambling through Castleton looking for a cafe we were lured into The George by the blackboard outside declaring 'homemade chips'. Never able to resist real chips made from real fresh potatoes we eagerly found a table. One average child's meal of nuggets, our youngests firm favourite, a turkey baguette served with chips and salad and a couple of extra...

We had a meal after visiting the castle and it was truly terrible.I ordered pan fried salmon with mussels and vegetables because I wanted something healthy and what was served to me was horrid...I only ate the salmon after scraping off a really bad creamy sauce. The mussels looked old and the vegetables were overcooked. My partner had a rabbit pie which...

Lovely inn/restaurant. Great atmosphere, home cooked food and service. First visited The George Inn, Dec 2012. Castleton looked so pretty with the christmas trees decorating the streets. Enjoyed doing last minute shopping there. Returned at Easter and had lunch at the George again. Will stay over next time.

We had left The George alone for months because it fell short of our expectations. We visited today because we had an errand to run in the area and it was convenient for lunch. We ordered the fish, chips and peas,a cup of tea and a pint of Slater's Top Totty. The meal was excellent, the beer superb and the tea was....tea!...

We have 6 beers on handpull with a large selection of lagers, ciders and soft drinks. For those who wish we also have a cocktail menu. We do occasionally have live music on ... more   less
