The quad room we had was huge and had everything we needed in it. Food in the hotel was amazing - service from Harvey was great the spa area was great although very busy with little chance of getting hold of a space in the quiet areas unless you grabbed a spot early or later on Only issue we had was with some generator type noises in the room during the night which woke us all up. Abi on reception understood and responded appropriately when notified.
I stayed at HCH over the weekend for a 1 night simply spa escape with 2 treatments each for me and my partner. We stayed in the garden suite room 434 and the total cost was just under £1300. It is probably worth noting that I have stayed in some of the best hotels across the UK and enjoy going to spas often. There are some pros and cons but I will start with the pros. Pros: 1. Upon arrival at reception, we were served with a lovely Gin drink and the lady who checked us in was so lovely and friendly. 7/10 2. Our room was exquisite & clean and the view from our room was breath-taking. Could do with a pain job particularly by the windows. 9/10 3. Dinner was outstanding & the service was even better. The young gentleman who served us deserves an award. Best service I have ever had. My partner said the apple crumble cheesecake is the best desert he has ever had in his life! Yes portion sizes are small but in all honesty its so tasty you can not complain about portion sizes. 10/10 4. Lunch at Hugos was also very nice. 6/10 5. Spa treatments were good, I am particularly impressed that the lady for my reflexology was running late and I assume it was the manager who was very kind came to apologise. When you get good service like that you find it impossible to complain. My partner said his reflexology was excellent and my deep tissue back massage was fantastic. 9/10 6. Like all the other reviewers the grounds are stunning, well maintained and some of the most beautiful views 10/10 7. There was a wedding and unlike some other reviews we couldn’t hear a thing and barely noticed any disturbance from this which is a positive. Cons: 1. When we arrived at reception 2 completely different sets of people were complaining about their rooms – This is not so much of an issue but the reception area is so crowded I think it would have been better to pull them aside to have that conversation instead of everyone hearing what the other two groups were complaining about. 2. Also at reception we asked if we could have dinner earlier and was told no due to a wedding, we asked for late check out and was told no as someone is booked into that room after we leave. Hence why the rating for this was 7 as there was no effort to accommodate us. We wanted late check out as we had a treatment booked for 11:15 meaning we would have to take our luggage with us – just made it very uncomfortable. 3. I have an issue about all these pre-booked times. When I go away I want to be relaxed and do things casually at my own time, I don’t want to be penned to a specific time. That being said considering they had slots for specific times why was there still queues and just a complete lack of organisation which I will go into further later. 4. When we got into our rooms we had no robes or towels and had to ask for this which knocked it down from a 10 to a 9. Also the floor was wooden and im surprised slippers don’t come as part of the room. Its pretty standard if you ask me to have slippers provided. 5. This brings me onto my next point. We get to the spa and we didn’t bring any slippers from home (mainly because every spa ive been too slippers have been provided) we get told we have to pay for slippers £5.95 each! I mean that’s just a joke in all honesty. The lady on reception in the spa was so unhelpful I cant help think I was being profiled. I will explain why, we asked for a rove & a towel – the lady rudely said we should have this in our room..had to explain it wasn’t in the room. She gets the robe and we ask wheres the changing room, she said its back upstairs by the hotel reception?? I said all the way up there she said yes. So we trot off upstairs to get changed and at this point we didn’t have slippers so had to walk back down barefoot. I then asked where is the spa and she said “well you are in the spa”. I am not being funny I have never been there before and the spa is massive. It was actually a lady behind us who could see I was getting flustered and frustrated gave me a quick overview of where everything is including the changing rooms!!! Remember this is a guest now telling me you go down there for your treatment and if you go through those changing rooms you come out by the spa whilst the ruse receptionist just sat there. She had a black short bob type hair and I think that needs addressing. The reason I say she was racially profiling us as later in the evening we came back to the spa and there was another group of black women and she did the exact same thing! Told them to go upstairs to get changed – when I interjected, she walked off!! But I personally witnessed her telling other people who were not black where the changing rooms were and being extra nice to them. I do not think this was an isolated incident im afraid and certainly set the tone for the spa. 6. The spa when we first went in was packed – I mean it was just awful, people queuing to get in the jacuzzi this was at 4pm so we left but when we went back around 7pm it wasn’t too bad. Still busy but could atleast use the facilities. The spa is huge and I think it would benefit the customer experience to have a little overview of where everything is – inside the pool area etc I didn’t actually see any staff and we were looking for the steam room for ages until someone told us! There was a lot of chatter about how big it was and no one knew where anything was which says a lot it wasn’t just us! 7. I didn’t like the fact you have to pay extra for drinks, It seems a bit odd to have a 3 course meal but then pay for drinks. I didn’t mind but if I had known this before hand I would have been prepared! 8. What went wrong at breakfast! It was chaos. Firstly there was a queue to get into for breakfast which I would say had about 20 people in the queue. We were booked for 9:30am. We were now next in the que and at this point the lady skips us and starts calling out for “groups”. She let all the groups go in first and I said hold up isn’t it first come first served – it was now 9:45am and I still wasn’t seated. She said no we are doing groups first. When we go inside it was practically empty – not so busy. We sit down and I asked for the menu as I wanted something vegan She said she didn’t have any menus…. We asked for coffee and tea which never came. We went through to the buffet area which was packed! I wondered what was going on…well there was no plates and only beans and eggs…where was all the food! I asked and the lady barked at me they were short staffed. We waited at least 5 more mins with many people asking for plates for the lady to bring out 6 plates! It was just a mess. There was no pastry and no bread. I asked someone else are they bringing out any food to be told well its nearly end of service. I was in utter shock because I was booked in for 9:30 and theres a longggggg queue of people outside still waiting to eat so I am sorry it was just unacceptable. We left without any breakfast which was a real shame. Also the table next to us asked for two coffees 1 decafe, she bought the coffees out and they asked which one was decafe, she didn’t know. She asked her colleague who opened the pot and sniffed it and said pretty sure its this one. She then brings the coffee back and says its this one…The lady was like I don’t want that you have both just sniffed it bring me a fresh pot! I mean how unprofessional. Almost makes you feel sick. I would give this zero out of 10 it was just a disaster. I mean you could go to a premier inn and they have never messed up breakfast this badly! It’s a first for me in my many years of staying in hotels. 9. Lunch at Hugo’s was perfectly fine but by this point I had enough and wanted to go home. We had to remind the lady we are ready for our main now, we are ready for our desert now. The food itself was nice but service was so slow. 10. Lastly, If they are going to confine people to set times then I expect better organisation. There is no excuse for the queue at breakfast and at Hugos. I expect things to be running smoothly. This was not the case, I also think there should be some flexibility around this because I booked in June on the day I don’t know what time I want to have breakfast but also being told I cant eat earlier because they are fully booked is a real pain! If anything needs time slots it’s the spa because that was just horrid. No one can enjoy a spa when its that busy. Overall, I would say there were some highlights such as my room and dinner but the overall it was an unorganised mess with people everywhere! I would say it lacked in finesse & quality. It lacked in that luxurious feeling you get when you escape away overnight. I found myself to be very tense and just couldn’t wait to leave which is a shame when you spend over £1k for 1 night away. There is real room for improvement when it comes to customer experience and instead of focusing on how much money they can make focus more on ensuring every customer has the best time possible There was no point in complaining – every time we walked past reception someone was there complaining it was just so awkward! I personally wouldn’t stay here again but I would rate it 4 stars because the treatments were good and when the spa was empty it was fantastic. I may recommend it to others as I actually have about 5 people waiting for my thoughts but I will make a point of saying I wont be back.…
Came for our honeymoon. Defiantly worth a visit, great staff, especially the restaurant staff, amazing food, great spa facilities. Only thing I would say is for a more expensive room, we did expect more, e.g a few added touches, but worth it for the hot tub and the balcony.
Well worth every penny. Food was very good, my treatment made me feel very relaxed and me and my friend are planning it again for the summer. Staff where very attentive and always smiling. The place was super clean too.
My wife & I paid over £600 for an overnight spa break, so far from cheap! The Spa we'd give 9/10 - excellent facilities though too busy on the Saturday. No big delays to use the facilities though impossible to find somewhere to sit & relax without going into their atrium. Hotel very different though. Very impressive building, room also decent size & nicely presented. The king bed was two singles pushed together, extremely uncomfortable. Bathroom was (just) functional though well past it's best. We had dinner, breakfast & lunch there, they need a total rethink. Dinner passed between two queues for front of house people, food quite nice & presented quickly, drinks had to order twice & arrived after the starter. Breakfast food variable, took them 20 mins to make 2 eggs, the coffee included at £600 night is undrinkable though they'll sell you nicer stuff at £5 cup! That did wind us up. Lunch again food nice and served quickly, again had to order drinks twice. Ordered coffee to go with desert, arrived well after we'd finished & were on our way out. Overall with a bit of effort on the room & sort out the restaurant this place could be great.…
Had a lovely spa night with my mum for her birthday! It was a very nice evening and the spa had very nice facilities! A light dinner at night came with our evening, and the food was absolutely delicious! I would definitely visit again! The staff were also very friendly and helpful!
Every picture online, every detail, every promised luxury it delivers on and some. Could not recommend more. Purity Spa stay was perfect for us, although one more night would have been even better. We both also had a 60 minute full body massage and feel completely reborn!
I took my partner for a birthday treat and we certainly were not disappointed. Excellent facilities although it was very busy. The food was superb and the comfy room was very nice. We had a treatment each, and whilst expensive, they were both very good.
The place was great, we had a massage and a wrap and everyone was very helpful over the day. We felt relaxed after and loved how many facilities the spa had. It was busy but not overwhelming and we would easily go back.
Really good range of facilities. Very relaxing and well run spa. Food was excellent and the whole day was good value. Busy but size of the spa areas meant we could enjoy all the facilities without having to wait
