I have been staying at the Sir Douglas Haig twice a year for a number of years and have experienced the evolution of the Hotel, management and staff. In the beginning it was a tired but convenient establishment and where it lacked on modern amenities it made up in honest hospitality... At the time when the environment became a serious...

Homely place to stay. Since two local hotels closed they have picked up new business. The rooms have been refurbished, Clare who manages the establishment has recruited her brother who is an excellent chef. For starters I chose the Smoked Salmon with crab, commit fennel and baby basil, a very generous portion. My main was Guinness and steak pie, short...

We stepped in the pub as part of a hike in the area with no big expectations. Boy were we wrong! We ordered 2 salads and beer. It took some time to get it, but then we understood why. It seems that it was prepared on the spot just for us. It was a pleasure. Esthetic, tasty. What a great...

We stayed here for 6 nights; all staff are very friendly which gave our stay a homely feeling. The food is excellent, rooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed - would recommend a stay. Photo of bar and dinning area:

We were made welcome and the staff were all very friendly. We had eaten previously, but just needed a soup or similar. The chef made one especially for us which was delicious! Our room was great--bright and clean with comfortable beds and a very good bathroom with bath and a super shower. Big fluffy towels! Lovely!! And breakfast---this was the...

Welcoming local pub, recently refurbished. I've eaten here several times, good standard pub grub. Friendly staff and the beer is well kept with a good choice. Recommended, but can't speak for hotel part.

Stayed here last night. Very friendly welcoming staff, lovely big, clean room. Very comfortable bed and stay topped off with a lovely freshly cooked breakfast. I highly recommend the Sir Douglas Haig as a place stay and will definitely come back.

The Sir Douglas Haig hasn't kept pace with the nearby pubs which have all recently renovated. Friendly staff, OK food but the place is tired and in need of a once over. A favourite with tradesmen and older locals. I've tried many of the others in the area and the Haig just doesn't cut it for ambience. I'd go there...

To all reading the above review, myself as the manager to this premises thought it only right that the truth be told. The above customer entered the pub at 2.56 (last food orders are at 2.45) he was informed that lunch service was finished he continued to purchase drinks, no sandwich was offered or suggested as we do not serve...
