We've just returned from a two night break here and we'll definitely be back. We were looking for a hotel near Beamish and this was very close. We were welcomed immediately by the friendly staff. A special mention goes to Kimbo who was so lovely, my two boys really took a real shine to her and chatted to her everytime we passed reception. Good customer service seems to be relatively few and far between these days, but Kimbo and her colleagues were certainly well versed in how to look after people and how to, well, be generally lovely human beings.

The rooms had everything we needed. They are pretty cosy with two kids and two adults, but the rooms were spotlessly clean and beds were extremely comfy which meant we all slept very well.

With relation to location, there was a Toby carvery opposite and also a sports bar called Champs which we ate at the first night. For breakfast the first morning despite planning to eat somewhere closer to Beamish we ended up going to the Toby Carvery. It was fine but a tad greasy for my liking. The second morning we ate at the premier inn and it was great, plenty of choice, healthy options, the staff were very attentive to the boys too. The kids eat free too. I'd definitely recommend booking the breakfast there out of the two.

Overall a fab weekend and the hotel was excellent considering it only cost £64 for two nights. We'll certainly be back and will be recommending to family and friends.

Many thanks, Gemma, Rich and the boys (Room 111)

Lightning visit to Newcastle to visit my aged mother and needed a bed for a couple of nights. I've usually stayed at a Premier Inn but was recommended to try the Travelodge. Plus points : very convenient location just off the Northbound M1, clean, spacious room, decent bath/shower, proper toilet roll (unlike the Premier Inn single sheets - enough said), comfy bed, helpful and friendly staff. Minus points: room a little spartan, front desk sometimes not manned and you need to ring for assistance, some traffic noise, breakfast box (£5.25) consists of a pot of Cornflakes, a carton of milk, ditto orange juice and a muffin. Absolutely no comparison to the Premier Inn breakfast. However if you want a basic couple of nights with no frills it is ideal, and very reasonably priced.

After a failed attempt to stay in a campervan we were incredibly relieved and grateful to check into the Travelodge for 2 nights.
Spacious room, comfy bed, hot water, soft fluffy towels and a cup of tea - everything we needed.
Although located at a motorway service station we were not disturbed at all - even with the window open.
Most of all we would like to comment on the exceptionally warm and friendly welcome we received from the receptionist Olga.
We were desperate for a hot meal and not knowing the area at all Olga was so helpful - very kindly informing us of local amenities. Toby Carvery (which was absolutely lovely!) was just a 20minute walk away . We had our dog with us and we were allocated a downstairs room by the front door which made life much easier. The building was clean and smelt fresh, all staff were very friendly and accommodating to us all.
Thankyou Travelodge we had a great stay made to feel valued by your wonderful employees, and all for a fantastic price!!

I booked an accessible room as I cannot do stairs.
THE ROOM looked comfortable and inviting. Was sitting at the desk to do some work and I noticed a spiderweb on the lamp. Fair enough those bugs can appear suddenly.
THE BATHROOM I went for a shower lowered bath which was good not much room though the hand rail that ran the length of the bath took away about a third of the bath. The shower did not work it was a dribble no matter what I did also it was not an electric shower just a hose attached to the taps. Also could not close the shower curtain properly as it was a corner tap.
THE BED now that was very disappointing. It was 2 single beds joined together and was very uncomfortable where the join was. I did not get that much sleep but on the plus side the pillows and duvet were great.
THE REMOTE it was absolutely disgusting. I took it to reception with 2 fingers and she sprayed with disinfectant and rubbed with a cloth. Got back to room it had took a little of the crap that was on it.
I have stayed in many Travel Lodges in my time but this one takes the biscuit. I would of said the the receptionist in the morning at 10.15ish but there was no one there.

Excellent customer service from welcoming receptionist Mandy. Mandy was extremely helpful, kind and courteous, ensuring we were happy with room, supplied hairdryer on request. Nancy also suggested local places to eat including Antico Italian Restaurant, 5 mins easy safe walk behind travelodge. Turned out to ge a fabulous place to eat, fresh food, great prices, jovial Italian mine host. The tragelodge is in a great location, literally just off A1. Some traffic noise (to be expected) but quietened down in evening, did not interrupt sleep.

Stayed at travelodge Washington A1M northbound.
I had a few heavy flight cases with me so Ruth moved me from the first floor to the ground floor as close to reception as possible, she also telephoned the southbound travelodge were I was staying the next day to make sure I had a ground floor room.
The 12noon checkout was great because I was coming off of a cold and welcomed the extra lay-in.
I don't usually review hotels because I just want a place to crash for the night but the thoughtfulness I received
At 2am after a long drive through the night recovering from a cold has made me write this.
I didn't get the male receptionists name next morning but he was very helpful as well, holding the door open and offering to help me carry things.

I paid an extra £20 for room amendments/cancellation when booking my stay in case I needed to amend the booking. A week before my stay I found out I needed to amend my booking from 2 nights to 1 night.

I tried to amend my booking online but the system wasn't working and consistently came up with error messages saying there were no rooms available so I could not cancel. I then tried to phone the customer services helpline (as no email was available) even though it cost 13p a minute to call and I could not get through. My friend also tried to call but she could not get through either.

When I arrived at the hotel to try and amend the booking the receptionist (Mandy) was lovely and let me borrow her phone to call customer services and cancel 1 of the nights I had booked. When I eventually got through, the man on the phone was incredibly rude and bluntly told me I was too late and could not cancel the booking even though I explained I had tried multiple times to cancel to no avail.

I ended up paying £80 extra for a room I did not stay in.

The customer service is truly shambolic and the fact there is no email to contact Travelodge (instead having to phone a number that costs 13p a minute) is abysmal. I will not be staying again.

However, I will commend the ladies on reception who were very nice and went above and beyond to try and help us. The room was also clean. Therefore, this review is mainly a critique with Travelodge in general as opposed to the specific hotel. Travelodge must update their systems and make it easier for customers to contact them or customers end up out of pocket.

On arrival at the hotel, we had to call the hotel telephone number to contact and inform the receptionist we were waiting to check-in at the reception desk. The receptionist swiftly returned and checked our booking, which revealed only 3 members of our family of 4 had been recorded under our reservation. This was quickly rectified by the receptionist, by adding an additional bed in our room.

The general decor of the hotel and room are tired so in need of a little TLC. The room was fairly spacious, equipped and the beds were comfortable.

The hotel is located on the A1, Northbound service area, which as a petrol station and Greggs, Burger King, Costa Coffee eateries. We choose to have our dinner, a few miles further up the A1, as there were several eateries i.e. Hungry Horse, Toby
Carvery, close to the hotel. Following dinner, our return journey to the hotel meant us travelling past the hotel along the A1, Southbound to the next junction, before coming back up the A1, Northbound to the hotel, a bit of a pain.

Overall, our stay at the hotel was as expected but we will probably choose an hotel that is closer to a variety of eateries next time in the area.

The service at the travel lodge Washington was fantastic. We were served by Olga who was more than accommodating and helpful. She recommended a fantastic place to eat too. A special thanks also to Susan, Laura and Ruth who made the room lovely. The cleaners etc often get overlooked but deserve a mention as they work hard behind the scenes. Thanks again x

I stay here once or twice a year on my way up to Northumberland for a weeks holiday. Not the most attractive surroundings but it’s very convenient and ticks all the boxes for a one night stay.

The staff are always pleasant and helpful, the rooms always clean and fresh and the beds are very comfortable.

Close by there are a number of good eating places, some that you have to drive to but one you can walk to within a few minutes.

If there’s one thing that could be better is the bathroom. The showers are not the best I have ever experienced in a Travelodge with the pressure being very low!! Also, I wonder how many people these day actually use the bath? As an older customer I, as I’m sure most people would agree, would find a shower much more convenient and much safer to use.

You get what you pay for at this Travelodge and for me it’s a great deal.

Hello Margaret, No, they do not have a lift but I am sure that you can request a ground floor bedroom. Burger King is a three minute walk away or you can get a "breakfast box" at this hotel for £5.25p. (We usually bring our own bowels and museli and make a hot drink in the bedroom with the kettle provided). Best wishes for a good trip.

Yes, if you go into the Car park there is a gate along the back, if you walk through there and walk to the right, there is the Italian Tavistock.

Hi, It's a bit far out for evenings out. Taxis are quite expensive too. Might be better to pay more to be more central.
