Originally booked an overnight stay at the Ibis in Oldbury but due to a boiler fault in that hotel we were informed at 1300 hours that we had been moved to the Mercure West. Having been given the post code for the hotel our sat nav directed us to the dual carriageway alongside the hotel with no means of access. Eventually we found the entrance and were checked in by a very friendly and efficient receptionist (Yvonne I think) who was most helpful. We were allocated room 360 which appeared to have been recently updated. The windows in the room were quite small which, together with the black lampshades made the room appear dark. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were acceptable. The bathroom was a reasonable size with rain shower which had a good supply of hot water but seemed to be lacking in pressure. The air conditioning in the room did not work and although there was a small portable fan in the room it did no more than move the warm air around whilst making a lot of noise. It was impractical to open the window because of traffic noise. Although the room had been recently renovated there were a couple of items that should have been picked up; the shower controls had no trim strips fitted leaving the fixings exposed, the soap dish in the shower was not secured properly and the shaving mirror had the fixings in place but no mirror fitted. Good job we only stayed one night because there was only one coat hanger. Breakfast the following morning was good. We were greeted by Kelly who was very efficient and looked after us. Food selection was good and it was well cooked. This review may appear to be too negative but the items mentioned should have been picked up and repaired. We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly and professional.

checked in on saturday 21st august desk staff helpful and friendly but no mask wearing room was ok for our one night stay but no tv working emergency vehicle centre nearby so sirens going off all the time door outside our room was not soft closing so constant banging and even though we paid £139 for our stay we found out in the morning this does not include breakfast we was offered breakfast for a extra £13,50 eack which we declined and had ours at morrisons for a total of£ 12,50 for two

We decided to stay in this hotel for one night. We saw the reviews weren't great but we thought how much can go wrong in a day...how wrong was I... Well, as others stated, there is no phone in the room and the reception conveniently forgot to give us the whatsapp number even though we remember they did mention that they would give it when we first arrived. So sorry for not asking myself to give the whatsapp number??? But guess what, the whatsapp message comes back to reception again and they reply back. I don't understand this logic. The carpet is not cleaned and I can feel my feet are itchy. Since no slippers are provided, I have to wear my spare socks to avoid any infection to my feet. It is that dirty and feels unhygienic. The fabric single chair looks dirty and we didn't even dare to use it (it smells damp when you walk near it). The air con doesn't work. And when we contacted the whatsapp number, they said air con in our floor might not be working and out of two rooms we booked, they only offered to swap one room on a different floor. But we chose not to as we wanted both the rooms nearby on the same floor. But we got one free advice from the reception, "what is the problem? Just open the window for 5 minutes and it will bring the room temperature down". But the room is beside a road and it will no longer be quiet? Then they say, they are surprised that I hear any noise as they think these rooms are farthest from the road. Now how you perceive road noise is very subjective and depends on where you live everyday. Anyway, it was waste of time to talk about this and I left. The room was very stuffy due to no air con and as a result no air circulation. I wonder how the room was allocated when there is no air con working. The management needs to seriously think about this as many reviews highlight this here. One of the two rooms we booked had a joint door which connects to a different room and the connecting door was not sound proof, and our beloved neighbours came in at 12:30 AM midnight and decided to talk loudly, play TV and what not. We could hear them as if they were sitting beside us. To rub salt on the wound, these guests decided they would have a smoke and triggered an alarm at 1 AM midnight, so one night's sleep was gone out of the window. Next day, after returning from breakfast, I found one of the room keys were disabled, though we had 3 more hours left before checkout. We sent whatsapp message, and reception told us that we might have kept the keys near our smart phone or bank cards and after giving a lecture at reception they re-enabled them on system. After coming back, I found the keys were still disabled (this time I am 100 % sure I didn't mix them with smart phone / bank cards) so it is their system that is at fault and over zealous in disabling the keys at random times. This time, the staff comes to the door and lets us in with additional cards, so 10 minutes wasted in this process and even after paying we were left locked out. And that leaves us fearful and not venture out for next 3 hours :(. Overall a terrible experience I would like to forget...Lesson learnt. If the previous reviews are not good, read them and respect them even if the stay is very short...they do bite you back... I wouldn't mind spending double the price for a decent hotel with good reviews and at least which has a phone in the room and whose air con is working.
