We had a self contained cabin - dirty, the wardrobe doors hanging off the top runners, the. ancient shaving cabinet had no mirror and a spare toilet roll sitting in it, heating not adequate for this cold area and the floor looked like it had not been cleaned for a while. The restaurant was terrible and over priced and staff... More

We had lunch here, not fine dining but they had dishes celebrating the cultural activities of the area, hunting and fishing. Lots of old photos and the wood fire made it very nice on a cold Tassy day, the local whisky helped also. We had the kangaroo patties that were homemade and good. Beautiful view out the front of the... More

The rudest people we have come across in hospitality. Food was overpriced and bland. Room was very tired, cold with insufficient heating for the location and the smoke detector was pulled apart and obviously not working. Do yourself a favor and avoid

After some dreadful winter weather we headed to Arthurs Lake to check on our shack and thought it would be nice to stop in at the Great Lake Hotel for a meal - wrong, it wasn’t nice at all. On our arrival we soon realized they were very busy due to the recent snowfall and having lived in a small... More

Drove here with my son recently for lunch as we'd never been to the area. Drive from Launceston via Longford & Cressy was spectacular with promise of 'local produce' enticing. Unfortunately it was a bit like returning to the 70's/Wolf Creek when we got there. Nice fire but deer heads and crude jokes adorning every wall. Over priced menu albeit... More

Dropped in for lunch today. Great fire to warm up by then all downhill from there. I'm pretty sure the lady behind the bar was trained at Faulty Towers. If you want to see how not to do hospitality then visit. Unbelievable in this day and age to still find such rudeness. While there we saw several customers experience the... More

Don't waste your time visiting this place, just drive for another hour and half to hit Hobart instead after you've seen the lakes. We live in Launceston and has few visitors from Sydney and India and we're hoping to have some fun in the bush. On the way to Miena, we came across graffiti saying Ban Islam a few times.... More

We were visiting from Sydney for the weekend. Drove around 2 hours on the day to arrive at Great Lake Hotel around 1.30pm - cold and hungry. Signs plastered everywhere saying "All Day Lunch Menu", unfortunately that was a close as we got to having any food. The place was not crowded but the publican flatly refused to allow us... More

Awesome place set in the heart of the highlands giving you access to many waters for sensational fishing. Super friendly staff, great meals, warm fire and cold beer. Accommodation is very cheap .... highly recommend anyone to stay there.
