This B&B is a well-converted bank building. The setting is beautiful, directly opposite the Bass Strait. The room was good. Phil was full of interesting info about the area. There was a nice "freebie" of local coffee in our room. We opted for the hot breakfast the next day (for an extra fee) which was not very good (scrambled eggs...

We are sorry this guest was unhappy about the connectivity issues that I will address further below by quoting my IT expert's comments in their words. Unfortunately some consider that they will obtain the same service in regional Tasmania that they receive in big cities, and sadly this is not the case, particularly when it comes to telephony and other...

Perfect for our first night as a married couple. the staff were lovely and very accommodating. the room was beautiful and had everything you could want, including makeup wipes (and a great view)! The breakfast the next day was also excellent. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit the northwest coast.

Coming to the end of our Tasmanian trip before boarding the Spirit of Tasmania we decided to stay at Penguin. Exhausted after traveling from Strahan we just grabbed something to eat and bedded down for the night. Had difficult in finding the place and how to actually get in. Room was clean, bed comfortable, more than adequate for our short...

The Madsen was originally a bank building that has been tastefully converted to a small boutique hotel. The interior is a charming blend of the old world combined with modern luxuries. Staff are very welcoming and informative, there are some surprising small freebies that add a nice touch and the breakfast was included which was a nice bonus as well....

Sandi and I travelled to Ulverstone for a wedding and decided to stay at the Madsen. I had admired this building from the outside before, and investigated online before booking. Fortunately, the interior is every bit as good as the exterior. We were greeted warmly by the owner/manager on arrival and shown what was what. The bed was super comfortable...

Well we said we would be back and two years later here we are! Again, everything was perfect. A lovely warm welcome and at times it feels like you are staying in an exclusive B&B which could be anywhere in the world but it has homely touches as well. We love the view across to the ocean which I think...

We changed plans at the last minute on a driving tour of north-western Tasmania and rang this hotel on the off-chance they had a room available. The owner, Phil, could not have been nicer and booked us in over the phone. On arrival, he greeted us, showed us the hotel facilities and gave us some interesting info about the area,...

Stayed overnight in October 2016. Small sleepy type of town and was quite. Hotel is situated on main road in town but no noise and no traffic. Penguin is situation off the main road linking Launceston, Devonport to the tip of Tassie. Hotel was really comfortable and runs a trustworthy bar of tick what you had and pay on check...
