Stayed in a Deluxe King room in the Cedar building that was very spacious, clean and quiet. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the A/C worked well. The bathroom was on the smaller size but efficient. The small room refrigerator kept things placed inside cold at a temperature between 35 & 39*. The breakfast buffet was good with a nice variety, staff was friendly and helpful. Dinner at the golf course pub was very good, service was fast and friendly. The outdoor pool and fire pit area were very nice.

A few minor things that affected my overall rating: The room was very spacious, but the night stands on either side of the bed were very small with only 1 USB charging port on each. There was a very long countertop on the opposite side of the room with a drawer unit in the middle and a under counter microwave and small refrigerator at one end against a wall. The fridge was set on the floor with the door opening on the right side facing the wall. This made it difficult to use especially for older adults. There would be much better access if it was placed on top of the counter with the door opening away from the wall. Although cell reception was good in outside common areas it was pretty much nonexistent inside especially in our room.

I want to start by saying the hotel is very nice and extremely clean. The rooms were spacious. Most of the staff were friendly.

Having said that this is not a kid friendly resort. We were there during the holiday and there were zero activities for the children. The pool has limited hours 12-8 on most days. The restaurant does not have a child’s menu but will tell you what is available if you ask. They also require reservations on Friday and Saturday which we were not told and it is not posted anywhere.

We spent most of our time in our rooms entertaining the children on our final night we were sitting at a table by the pool playing a game and we were shushed by an employee. Really a Friday at 7:30 pm and you shush us in a public area.

They advertise a hot chocolate bar, movie night, cookie decorating (adults only costs extra), wreath making (adults only) and family song alongs. None of this was available during our stay.

Might be an ok couples retreat but definitely not for kids. The front desk employee even told me they do not cater to children even on the summer.

Arrived a little early for the 4 pm check in. Were told she can check us in although our room wasn't ready. She emphasized that 4 pm is check in and told us we would get a text when room was ready. The check in process was very slow as the employees did not seem well trained. At 4:24 pm the text came that the room was ready. Upon unlocking the door, we were brutally blasted with extremely cold air coming from the noisy air conditioner. Room was clean and neat. We adjusted the thermostat and went in search for some food. The Market is the only option for food currently in the resort. A cold sandwich was $8.99. I bought a very small garden salad for $6.99. After the purchase, I asked for salad dressing and was told they had none. We went back to the room and it was even colder so we called guest services who said she will send maintenance. No one came, so I walked down to the desk. All staff hanging around there looked bewildered when I asked when was maintenance coming as room was unbearable. A young man told me if worse comes to worse, just unplug the unit. We got tired of waiting. Needing to get some rest, we wanted to sleep and had no "Do Not Disturb" tag for the door. Needless to say when maintenance came hours later, he knocked. Too late for us. We tried to tough out the night under blankets and still brutally cold. Unplugging the unit, we heard trains every half hour or so and all the banging and disturbance that goes on in a facility. Then the alarm goes off at 5:40 am ! Not all the lamps in the room worked, dark bathroom with little counter top and really cheap with the complimentary toiletries. Towels were plentiful and the bed was good. There was a small refrigerator and a microwave but no coffee maker. Apparently the game is to get business in the Market or The Harvest for breakfast if you are a morning coffee or tea drinker. Also we could not get any hot water for showering. The water was luke warm at best. Need to mention that the outdoor pool was closed during this time too which limited the activities on the premises. So yeah I guess the advertising saying newly renovated is accurate but there were too many kinks for me to say we enjoyed our stay and will be back. For the money, too much was lacking, and stay was disappointing with too many annoyances to overlook.

We stopped here on a lengthy tour of the US for a couple of days at Cedar Point - ‘the home of the roller coaster’- so I had only vague expectations. But from the modernist log cabin aesthetic to the warm welcome and spotlessly-clean surroundings this place delivers. There was just a hint of mustiness to our immaculate room, probably on account of bathroom extraction unable to keep pace with the active family-generated moisture (windows that opened would help) but nothing too bothersome at all. A bijou but surprisingly good Starbucks does coffees, breakfast and snacks but I *strongly* recommend both the in-house breakfast restaurant, evening restaurant and bar. All three are staffed by the most charming, professional and accommodating staff and the food is generally excellent and very reasonably, so unlike other places in the US where staff demand tips just for doing their basic job it was a pleasure to tip these guys. The busy bar lady even remembered my tipple from the previous evening - what a woman!. Just a couple of minor caveats - I need a cup of Joe on waking so really missed (even basic) in-room coffee. More frustratingly, the True brand cardio machines in the gym have the worst UI I’ve encountered, with the cross trainer timing out repeatedly and unable to sync - unlike, say Life Fitness, Technogym or any other brand. But minor gripes aside I loved this complex where the management and staff are doing everything right and although occasionally busy the pools are a delight. In short, during a three week tour I was reluctant to leave this well managed and very pleasant resort complex.

We stayed in the sleeps 7 with the fireplace and balcony, room is absolutely huge and so was the balcony! The pictures on the website do not do the room justice. There was a very comfortable fold out couch, a king bed, around the corner of the room was a single over double bunk bed. There was a bench by the door we moved into the room to use as a coffee table sand a dinette set with three chairs. It has a big mini fridge and a microwave.
The hotel was beautifully decorated, staff has been lovely, and the entertainment was cute. There we’re tons of lights outside too, an outdoor fire pit, and carolers in the restaurant. They are definitely embracing the Christmas vibe!
The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was that The indoor pool is right off the lobby, so in full view of the lobby the whole time where people were gathered to watch the shows. Note, the rooms DO NOT have a coffee maker, but you could bring your own or go down to Starbucks.

I highly recommend this property for couples and/or families. The property is gorgeous and very well kept. There was always someone cleaning something and never hesitating to greet you with a smile. We enjoyed the indoor pool/spa after a long day of exploring Sandusky. Check in/out was quick & easy. Breakfast buffet was delicious and the Market was convenient.

Booked 4 nights for a little getaway with our kids and grandkids. Our 3 year old granddaughter loves to swim so we thought this place would be perfect. We thought wrong…maybe in a month or so but not now.
They just did a multimillion dollar renovation according to them. The slapped some lipstick on a pig is what they did but now have to do the real work.
The good: our room was ready when we arrived. We booked an adjoining suite. The rooms are spacious, plenty of pillows and the beds were decent. The pilot light was on for the fireplace which was weird in late June and the fireplace switch is near the floor where any toddler can access it. There’s a spot for a tv above the fireplace with no tv, it’s on the dresser. There are also no towel racks in the bathroom which was weird. There is a hook on the back of the door though.
The outdoor pool is really nice and the cabanas are first come first served and they are really nice. The pool has little outcomes with bench seats inside the pool…nice for a small group to gather and not be in the middle of the pool.
The NOT so good:
The outdoor pool was out of service for half our stay. First is was water control. Had to wait for someone other than the lifeguard (who checks the chemical levels) to throw some shock in the pool. Then it was the filter then the pump. Seems like they put all the money in making a nice pool area but never put in a new pump and filter.
The inside pool area is very slick! The pool should be heated but was always cold…perhaps that was broke too. It’s also very loud in there!
They advertise a private beach where they take you by golf cart…not happening. We were told the beach was closed then we were told it hasn’t been cleaned yet so there may be “branches and dead fish” on it. We also would need to walk to it, over a mile with a 3 year old and 7 month old. Oh and there’s snapping turtles!
The restaurants were not open, neither were the shops. So we had to pack up and drive places to entertain the kids.
The staff we encountered were friendly.
They did comp us one night and gave us complimentary tickets to the water park but we had to pay the $25 to park.
This place should not have opened yet. I feel sorry for the staff as most guests were complaining. It will be nice…just not ready.

We stayed for a night with our two children and we were beyond impressed.
Our room was clean, modern and had a perfect connecting room with two bunk beds for the kids. Every single employee we interacted with was kind, pleasant and helpful. The pool lifeguard was extremely kind and let us borrow life vests because we forgot them at home.
We had dinner at Mulligans and Jessica was an awesome waitress. In the morning we had breakfast at Harvest and Leslie was so helpful and kind. We also met Brian the F&B Director who was very nice! Thank you to the whole staff for making our "staycation" an unforgettable experience! We will be back!

If I could leave zero stars I would. This resort has been renovated and is not ready to be open. AC didn't work in our conjoined rooms and the managers were difficult to work with and rude. The pool was closed multiple times during our stay due to chlorine issues. Some of the kids at the pool experienced cuts on their feet from the pool management did nothing, they asked if we filled out a incident report and acted like we should be aware of the protocol when the lifeguards weren't even aware. When we addressed these issues with management they said the pool was not their responsibility as it's managed by a chemical company, the AC issue wasn't addressed nor were we able to change rooms. I spoke with the manager Stephanie about some of these complaints and she said she would adjust our bill for the inconveniences then didn't follow through which is so disappointing.

It's a great property but they are still working out the kinks. The heating/cooling system in the rooms is totally baffling. The restaurant at dinner is hit and miss: my food was undercooked, sent it back, still undercooked so I gave up. On the plus side the pool is nice and the breakfast with the senior or kids discount is terrific, and they have a nice bar.

cedar fair bought it. I believe it has been closed for renovation. It was in very bad shape and the entire place needs to be redone.

Please dial 0 for the front desk to make reservations. If no one answers, you can try emailing the reservations email at reservations@sawmillcreekresort.c. Sawmill is undergoing a LOT of new changes and we are experiencing several hiccups and can only work on one thing at a time. Your best bet is to call between 7am and 3pm or to email the above email. Sorry for any confusion.
