After my vacation, I felt the need to look up the difference between a hotel and a resort. The main reason is that this is not what many would consider a “resort” destination. I will start my review, however, by stating that the employees were very friendly. I will list below the pros and cons of Bayshore.

Pros - Friendly staff, pool, great view of the lake, nice balcony with table for sitting outside. Our room was on the first floor making the pool easy to access and the tiki bar was not far off, quiet (except for some loud unsupervised young kids which was not the fault of the hotel staff), rooms are affordable

Cons - Poor communication starting from reservation to end. Bayshore needs to come into this century. Only half of our time was spent at Bayshore. The other half was spent at the Holiday Inn Express in Port Clinton. I will provide a Venn diagram to show some differences. Golf carts were over $70 for a day. We paid a little over 50 for half of the day. The room was old and felt dirty (see pics), during the time we were there (3 days) the onsite restaurant was closed. You had to go to the Tiki bar and order and it was delivered to the room. The menu was extremely limited. Don’t expect fancy meals. You will have to go offsite from that. If you look up the expectations for a resort online, you will be disappointed. The things that are expected in a resort are not here (ex. Entertainment, spa etc.). This hotel was not bad, but our stay would have been much improved with a refrigerator and microwave in the room. A comparably priced hotel room offers this.

We unfortunately got stuck on the island because a storm came in and the ferry would not go back out. We were only planning on going over for the day. We found Bay Shore Resorts had a couple rooms for us. And needless to say, this was there last night for the season. There seemed like there was only one person working there. Couldn't believe how expensive the room was for the night for just sleeping there. It was over $200 for the last night, the ice machine was next to our room which made a screeching noise the whole night, AND you had to buy a 12oz cup of coffee in the morning for $3.16. Hell I could pay less than that and get free coffee and breakfast at a Holiday Inn. The view was nice off the screened in deck...when the weather would have been nicer. Just seems a little pricey to me for hardly anything but a nice view. Checked in to see how much to rent a golf cart...even though we really didn't want to since it was raining, but they said $75.00 for the day. Hell I had it cheaper with my reservation, that got cancelled, for a ferry ride and a golf cart for the day from E's Golf Cart Rental. Room was nice, high beds, but bathroom could use an update.

Pretty pricey for a basic rooms and appeared the entire island was in need of anyone who wanted to work. Several places closed down and Help Wanted signs everywhere. The hotel is a nice location, but its getting dated.

This property is nice but was already highly priced for the island. Under the new booking service, the prices tripled for 2022. Some units are over 1000 per night for a 4 person room. This is only encouraging people to fill a 4 person room with 10 people to cover the cost. Our family would normally get 4 rooms for 3 nights which Dad kindly paid 4k for. Now the cost is well over 10k. If you can afford it you will probably have the lakefront pool, hot tub and tiki bar to yourself. Very disappointing end to a 50 yr tradition on PIB.

I specifically booked the Bayshore because they said they had ADA accessible rooms. When booking they made me e-sign a document stating that an ADA room was actually required. When we arrived, they said I was booked into a normal room. The front desk had me call Arriva to get it straightened out (which they did but not until after many phone calls and a lot of wasted time. The Arriva representative that I spoke with asked how I booked my room, and I said on the website. He said that was why there was an issue and I shouldn't have booked on the website. Seriously?). The beds are ridiculously tall, you need a running jump to get in. Had to get a step stool from the front desk for my Mother to climb on to get into bed. Considering they had a step stool, I am going to guess we are not the only guests to have had an issue with the height of the beds. I think they need to re-read the ADA guidelines.

The bathroom was moldy, and it is never a good sign when there is a plunger sitting in plain sight. The carpet in the hall and elevator needs to be replaced; it is dirty and coming up in places (I know it is the end of the season, but some basic maintenance would be nice). The room didn't have a refrigerator or coffee maker (you can purchase coffee in the lobby, but the attendant couldn't get the latte machine to work). The electric golf cart was nice but very expensive. The view from the balcony was excellent but the screens were ripped and need replacing.

I will never book at an Arriva property again as this was a very sub-par experience.

This hotel is in need of a face lift, remodel, and perhaps local employees. Its the type of place where you dont want to take your shoes off. There was one local employee, the only friendly person to talk to about restaurant recommendations and such.
First of all, the restaurant was closed. My room was on the first floor, which had no microwave or fridge-not great for us, a family with a child. Vending machines were even empty. Super expensive junk food snacks were available.
When scheduling, you schedule through a third party who doesnt know anything about the hotel. They told us we were getting 2 rooms with 2 Queen beds, we got 2 rooms with 1 king bed each. We didnt have enough room and had to get a cot, that took all day to get.
We went 2 days without clean towels, they kept saying they were out. Anytime we needed anything we had to raid the carts and help ourselves.
The pool, location, and beds were great though.
For a family trip I would not return. This would be find for someone just coming here to party.

I actually would give it a 4.8 stars. Most important question is would we come back? When we do come back this hotel would top the list and we’ve stayed at 4 others in the past few years. The entire staff was outstanding. Our room was ready 3 hours early. The rooms were clean, linens fresh. The private balcony was just awesome especially the gorgeous lake view sunrise. 2 pools and a huge jacuzzi 👍🏻 We loved our stay. This is a short walk to the bar scene as well.

The only things slightly annoying was no mini fridge to keep our off or on site obtained beverages cold. There was no on site food and of all the hotels we ever stayed in on or off island free breakfast bars is the norm. Departing travelers appreciate something quick to eat before heading especially with the premium cost of staying on island. The vending machines weren’t well stocked. We had to leave the hotel to find bottled water.

BayShore Resort was splendid! Our roomS were clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.
Excellent customer service/staff, very polite, smiles and felt welcomed.
The tiki bar was great! Convenient to order food, delicious food at that, and very kind bar tenders.
The pools were clean and so refreshing.
We rented a gulf cart for 24 hours. BayShore location was not only scenic but great locality to area, very convenient.
Although other fam rooms had no issues, my husband and I's room hot water in shower was limited. We handled that one with enjoying showering together!
THANKS BAYSHORE, we certainly will recommend and return again!

The process for confirming your check in is intrusive and discriminatory. They require excessive personal information. I was turned down because or a racial or intellectual bias, I am not sure which. The customer service was very rude and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Go with a regular hotel that doesn’t profile you.

Loved everything about this place! It was a great stay. Only one thing I would change is please answer your phone! I must have called the 4 numbers and no one answered. Had to email to get a response from someone. My flight was canceled the day before and once I got a phone call back they happily switched my dates.

Yes this is a good place for families. It's quieter than most other places and it has a gated pool which is good for kids. It does not get wild or crazy like many other places.
