Shelter Cove Resort & Marina garners praise for its stunning location and the comfort of its cabins, with a special nod to their cleanliness and rustic charm. While the proximity to attractions like ski resorts is a highlight, guests have expressed concerns over additional fees for extra occupants.
The staff's friendliness and attentiveness are consistently applauded, although some visitors feel the value is diminished by the extra costs and the amenities, which can be limited during winter months.

Detailed Reviews
Shelter Cove's location is fantastic. It sits right on Odell Lake and I think every single cabin has lake views. A bunch of trails start just steps from the resort and go deep into the Diamond Peak Wilderness. The property itself is lovely with several boat docks, a bunch of cabins of varying size, a lodge, campground and small general store and basic restaurant.
We stayed in the lodge. It's not a separate unit but instead four units together in one building - the 3BR/2BA units are on the upper level and the 2BR/1BA units are on the lower. Ours was very spacious and nicely decorated. There's a grill, full stove/oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. It's stocked with plates, glasses, linens, towels, etc (just no spices/oils/salt & pepper - bring those). There's a TV with satellite but no wireless (that's only available at the general store - and it's free). We got an OK Verizon signal at the general store but not at the lodge.
Despite sharing walls with two other units, ours was fairly quiet.
Overall, it was a great experience and we loved hiking in the area. My only complaint is the cost. The rate is already pretty high ($300/night plus taxes) and then there's a $5/night fee for each person beyond the first 2. Clearly these lodge units are meant to hold big groups; ours could sleep 10 easily. So the extra fees seemed excessive (the dog fee is $25/stay).
So, overall, we really enjoyed our time at Shelter Cove but didn't feel that it was a great value for the price.

Camp Sites are relatively expensive but the staff is great and the location is hard to beat. Electricity at the sites, water nearby and a dump station made things easy. Cell service is very spotty. That can be a good thing. A better online map of the campground would be helpful when reserving a spot.

We stayed here two nights while visiting Crater Lake. We needed to change our reservation at the last moment because our pilot son decided to join us and we needed to push the dates back one day and the staff were great at accommodating us with no fuss whatsoever. We rented a suite in the Kokonee Lodge and it was fantastic. Huge. More or less an apartment. It had two full bedrooms, two full baths and then a room with three bunk-beds. The kitchen was modern and fully and well stocked. The balcony was great overlooking the lake and even had a small gas BBQ for our use. We cooked both nights here. There is a gas range, oven, microwave and toaster oven. The knife set was great. The sitting area was very large with comfy sofas. The rustic picnic table to eat on was a nice touch. Bathrooms were large and nicely stocked. The beds were very comfortable. They just had a huge wind storm that had knocked down several large trees right by our place, smashing one building and damaging several others. (see pictures) It gave an interesting twist to the otherwise serene landscape. There is a laundry on site you have to pay for but it isn't that expensive and they are nice machines. Highly recommend this place if you are wanting to visit Crater Lake or just fish in the lake or the nearby streams. They have a fully stocked tackle and bait shop on-site and you can even rent boats from them. I thought that the little convenience store closing at 500 pm was a bit early and inconvenient and they could use a few small lights leading the way to the laundry, as well as mark the laundry better. As for the price, considering how large the suite was and the full kitchen, it was well worth the price paid. If you split this suite between two families, it is actually very inexpensive.

Top notch service from the staff, wonderful camp sites, and great fishing. We had two campsites together with a view of the marina. The campgrounds were spotless and the staff was more than accommodating to answer questions and provide assistance as needed. The staff will hook up to your boat so you can launch your boat. While you drive your boat to the dock, they will park your trailer. The marina to moor your boat is very well laid out and plenty of spots available to reserve for your stay.

The spaces are cramped and have very little privacy. The resort, if you want to call it that does not offer any hookups except for electricity. Our recent trip was a nightmare because they allowed people to bring in 5 large breed dogs for the weekend. Our camping site was shared with these people because of the configuration of the sites. After camping, an extra vehicle and boat moorage it was about a $100.00 a night. Very expensive and not resort quality.

We stayed here for 3 nights while travelling through Oregon. We had no problems with our reservations and the site was as described. 30/50 service and water with a 100 foot hose was nearby. The site was large and mostly level with gravel. Plenty of room for our 38ft RV and Jeep. We uses the laundry facility (2 wash, 2 dry) and did not have to wait. The horseshoe pit was a good time. We ate at the cafe/grill 2 nights and both times were good. Had the pulled pork pizza and the rib dinner. The staff was friendly . The lake looks like a nice fishing lake ( we did not fish). We went to Crescent Lake and took out the Kyaks and sat on the beach. Extra $ 10 to dump was a bit steep since we were staying there but it is only $10..store had a good selection of the essential items.

Beautiful location. Love the lodge and cabins. The lake is gorgeous. Peaceful scenery.
Maintenance and amenities were lacking apparently due to staffing problems. Staff was very friendly and attempted to be helpful but administration needs to be more attentive to upkeep. Some of these problems should have been anticipated.

We were staying at the camp across the lake but since they had no boats for rent we came to Cove Shelter. Once we got a safe distance from the dock we attempted to open up the engine for some speed but the motor conked out and died. We were then lucky enough to get it restarted but noticed it wouldn’t go more than 1.9mph. Trying to get back against the wind and currents took 2 hours and when we told the management we either wanted a portion of our money back or a free meal they made us feel like idiots because we didn’t know a trolling brake was on. There were 4 of us listening to instructions and not one of us remembered being told anything about a brake.
We were very angry but decided to eat anyway at their marina because they had a nicer deck than our campgrounds. Our daughter ate half her burger before realizing it was RAW in the middle. Not bloody, RAW. Once again we asked to be compensated and all they offered to do was reheat her burger.
We won’t be back. They ruined our day, wasted our money and treated us poorly. I can’t recommend them.

Our family has been going to Shelter Cove Resort for close to 30 years. It is a beautiful mountain resort surrounded by trees and beautiful lake O’Dell. We stayed in an RV site this year. Occasionally we stay in one of the beautiful cabins. Unfortunately there were some amenity issues happening during our stay. The bathrooms and showers were closed down and the water to the rv sites was also off. You might want to call the resort before booking your stay and make sure the water/sewer issues have been taken care of. Other than that, we love Shelter Cove and will most definitely be back.

High end expensive campground that is rustic and mostly a fisherman's spot. Amenities are not there for what you pay - in comparison to many other RV RESORTS. Staff are helpful, and there is a sense of community among those who have been coming here for years. But many are cutting back their stays due to the expense and lack of fish.

OK for sending e-mails at the office/restaurant only.
Actually, Much of Oregon's air quality is suffering including the coastal areas. The air quality in the area around O'dell and Crater lake is very poor. All of Oregon/s forest are closed at this time. It will most likely remain that way until Oregon gets some good substantial rain showers. A couple of the fires are not expected to be completely contained until winter. A smart traveler would stay away until all fires are out.
NO!, No sewer hookups BUT, A pump truck comes around every Thursday and for an extra fee he will pump your holding tank. They do have a dump station you can use when you leave BUT, first, it will cost you an extra fee and second, you have to back up a dirt road to get to it. As for water, No water hook=ups at the camp sights BUT, they have water hose bibs close to every campsite. You can hook up to those water faucets but you might have to have as much as a 100" hose OF YOUR OWN to reach them. They do have very long hoses at each faucet so you can fill water holding tank BUT you can't hook their hose to your coach. THEY WILL COME AROUND AND DISCONNECT THEM.
Good luck. I will not go back.
They have some nice fishing boats and a couple of pontoon boats for rent. VERY EXPENSIVE. Fuel there cost over $6.00 p/g. NO OTHER RENTALS THAT I SAW.
"Shelter Cove should always be a place for PCT hikers to stop for a spell and enjoy this fabulous resort. They couldn’t be more accommodating"Read full review
