Great team nice accommodations. The Balch team made us feel at home and were always there to serve and help us enjoy our stay. The hotel is a step into the past and the Dufur community was quiet and enjoyable. The bistro serves great meals and even offered to deliver our desert and coffee to our room. We would recommend a stay at the Balch to all of our friends.
We enjoy vintage hotels and the Balch didn't disappoint. Upon arrive, however, there is a large in your face sign that says "Black Lives Matter" This is a Marxist organization with corrupt leadership and in my opinion, the sign is inaapropriate for such a nice vintage setting. Our room had a comfortable king size bed with a jacuzzi for two. It was very quiet. The bistro downstairs was a well run operation and the food was good. The continental Breakfast the next morning was nice too. Be sure to check out the water lilies out side in the water feature.
My husband and I were on a road trip from California to Seattle with no set itinerary. We decided to visit the Maryhill Museum on our last day, so we chose the Balch Hotel for the night before, because it was not far away from the museum and because we love historic hotels. We were not disappointed. The hotel was comfortable, the staff was welcoming, and the food was great. We enjoyed happy hour on the back lawn and watched the Super Flower Blood Moon come up over the farmland to the east. We'll be back if we are in the area again.
I've stayed here twice, both times a relaxing, pleasurable stay. Staff and owners are kind and friendly. So convenient to be able to have dinner and breakfast (breakfast provided) with charming outdoor seating. The parlor has a library with a wealth of helpful local travel books. Dufur is unpretentious and fun to stroll.
It is a charming, historic building with modern amenities. The room and bed are very comfortable. They advertise there are no TVs, which was nice to get away from (though the wifi is fast, so you aren't out of touch). The staff was warm and friendly, and the dinner was delicious and unhurried.
