This is actually the THIRD time we have stayed. Both were bad before but the management had promised to do something about the rude man at the desk. Nothing was ever done. First trip, he made a mistake on the day we were leaving...and while we were out of the room (reception is sketchy on the coast) left us a message threatening to throw our luggage into the parking lot. Ownership intervened after some panicked phone calls and saved our things. Second trip...Brett...the "owner" as he refers to himself when he is exerting his authority...gave us the wrong room...insisted that's What we booked...which we never would have...and gave us a room infested with ants. This time...tried to check in...I have a medical mask exemption...I offered to leave my card at the key drop off window and let him call me to check in...he said he would not speak with me or honor the reservation unless I mask. I explained to him. He rudely told another customer behind me that I would not be allowed to check in or be acknowledged. This person is just a horrible human being who has no place in the hospitality industry. The property itself is pretty run down anyway, but we've been tolerant about that because places are struggling. Do yourself a favor and stay next door at Pacific Reef. They are truly nice people...I just need to plan further ahead so that we can get a more desirable place.

We stayed for four nights around Christmas time in the smaller Beach House which says it sleeps five. I worried needlessly that it would perhaps be too "cozy" for our family of five. There were two bedrooms. The master bedroom was huge with a very comfy king bed and separate full bathroom. The other bedroom had a full bed. The living room had two sofa beds, but the couches were large enough and comfortable enough that the teens slept on them without turning them into beds. The heat worked great. There was a small front porch with benches. The beach house was a very short walk to a nice sandy beach. There are some restaurants within walking distance. We also visited the Prehistoric Gardens, Humbug Mountain, Cape Sebastian, and the Boardman State Scenic Corridor. The hot tubs and breakfast were closed for Covid. On the negative side, the kitchen was not stocked very well although we had just enough dishes and pots and pans to make do. The Beach House was recently remodeled, but it looks like the remodel was interrupted before the kitchen was completely finished. The counters are new, but the dishwasher was not working, and there was a bucket under a leaky pipe. There was a sugar ant invasion, but a bottle of Terro Ant Bait was left on the counter, and it took care if them. None of these things detracted from our stay in a major way. The TV gets the major channels plus several HBO channels. The wifi signal was a bit week; so if fast wifi is super important to you, keep that in mind.

Complaint - the room obviously wasn’t clean. There were tons of black hair stuck on the bathtub and dirt on counters. They close at 10 pm and tapped our key to the door so we couldn’t switch or get it cleaned. I went to the office the next morning to tell them INSTEAD of writing a review but they were belligerent and didn’t want to hear it. Rooms were a mixture of nice updates (new counters, bed frame, flooring - nice) and blatant neglect (door jams tore up, loose door knob that took a while to get the old fashioned key to work, window sill tore up and couldn’t be locked). Shoddy old towels and only 2 towels and two wash clothes.

the hotel looks dated and a bit run down from the outside but the room was surprisingly clean and updated. My only complaint is that there was no air conditioning (at least in my room). But I just opened the windows to cool the room off. I can imagine on a hot evening it would be a problem, though. Also, some of the workmanship was questionable. The faucet, although a new fixture, was not installed correctly and the whole assembly was loose. No excuse for that. They should also upgrade to key cards rather than metal keys for security reasons.

We inadvertently made a reservation at this hotel thinking it was a different hotel. From the exterior loo we were worried we made a big mistake. We soon found out that the interior didn't match the exterior. It was obvious that the rooms have been recently remodeled or at least the room we were in. Upon check-in there was some challenges for the person behind the desk changing the reservation and the credit card that was to be charged. We had a delightful stay. The one thing we wished was available would have been an outdoor shower or water hose to rinse of sand from the beach which is just a few yards away. The next morning we left early and dropped the key in the key box so we could meet our fishing charter.
