This is a charming motel. They keep it so clean and it has a great kitchen set up. Wonderful ocean view. Bonfire at night to gather around. So accommodating towards dogs. Lots of green space. We will be back.

Pros:
Front desk check in/out was easy and friendly
Amazing water pressure
Kitchen was well stocked and easily navigated
WiFi was strong
VERY quiet, even in a Saturday night
Coffee, Teas, Hot Chocolate and Apple Cider in room
Best sheets ever! Wow!
Free DVDs to borrow in office
VERY clean
Soaps, shampoo and body wash were high quality
Towels were fluffy
Cons:
By the look of the photos, we were under the impression the rooms directly overlooked ocean. This was not the case. You’ll see a sliver of the ocean IF you’re sitting at a certain angle in an area of your room.
Wish we had known this.
If you have a handicapped or unsteady person in your group, just realize there are 4-5 steps leading up to your room. No grab bar in the shower. The tub side is high, so that’s not easy to navigate. Especially when wet. It gets slippery.
Also the toilet was very low as was the sofa in our particular room.
At 5’3”, I’ve never had this issue before.
In conclusion: Yes, we will stay here again. Probably won’t bring our dogs as they can be loud and this sweet motel isn’t a run of the mill let-them-bark kind of place. It’s far better than that.

I appreciate your pros and cons and am glad that you would stay here again. It sounds like you were in a standard room with a side angle view of the ocean. Next time request a premier room and you will have a full front view. They also only have 2 steps from the garage to the room.. We do have a ramp that would allow wheelchair access if necessary. Again, I thank you for your review! Wendy Kelley

We only had one regret: that we didn't plan on a longer stay! Our cottage was immaculately clean, cozy, and quiet. The only noise came from birds and the roaring surf. Our expansive ocean view was enhanced by a cheerful green lawn, which made sitting on our front porch extra pretty. We wanted to "live" as locals for our getaway, and puttering in the amply stocked kitchen was a delight. Fresh ground aromatic coffee, a welcome basket on the dining table including a Tide Table, and courteous warm on-site hosts enhanced our comfort and feelings of security. Wi-fi signal was strong, the flat screen tv huge, and strategically placed small heaters kept our cottage at the perfect temperature night & day (even when someone snuck open the slider door at night to listen to the surf from the comfy sofa sleeper). It was so fun to use the private stairs down to the sand, and the property is well lit for excursions in any weather. We cannot wait to return and watch the storms come in.

We were looking for a place to get away from the house, cook for ourselves, and get some beach walking in.
The motel is "rustic", but very well maintained. The stairway down to the beach is a bit run down, but there's a closeby alternative that was a bit of a climb, but manageable.
There's a creek/estuary that made it necessary to ford a shallow stream to get to the beach, and we weren't ready for that, so we didn't get much walking done. Bring some appropriate footwear or be ready to go barefoot and wade a little.
We really enjoyed the living area, a very comfortable place to watch the ocean, have a nice dinner, and a glass of wine.
The kitchen was nice, a new gas stove. There were a lot of dishes and pots and pans, we could have used a cookie sheet but found something suitable.
The staff was extremely attentive, actually giving a quick room tour to acclimate us, and otherwise leaving us to ourselves. They are very COVID-19 aware and conscious of what is required for safety.
If you want to "get away" but have Newport handy, this is a great spot to hang out.
If you're here don't miss the Yaquina Head lighthouse and the black rock beach, which are just about a mile down the road, if open, it was closed during our visit.

Thank you for your review of our Agate Beach Motel. Also, for mentioning the Covid-19 protocol that we undertake. It adds to the daily routine for the staff but we feel it is our duty to help with the fight we all are experiencing. Yes, there is a stream between the motel and the ocean; although it's pretty low at low tide. That happened about 3 years ago when the North Jetty was lengthened and changed the direction of the stream. It's fresh water and the kids love to play in it so it isn't all a bad thing. Again, thank you for taking the time to review. Wendy Kelley

What a gem! Had a free night on a business trip and nearly stayed at a chain place up the road. I'm sure that would have been fine, but this was so nice I went back the next week.
Cozy and quirky. Quirky in that they asked me at check-in the first time if I minded a bit of a slope to the floor. It's an older place and I guess the ground has settled. But there is nothing outdated about the upkeep. My unit had a full kitchen, separate bedroom and a living room that looks out over the ocean (and yes, a slight slope that I didn't notice after about five minutes). Everything was super clean and not a hint of wear and tear. Nice deck, too, although I was there in the rainy season.
I appreciated that I could keep the place pretty cold if I chose, just as personal preference, but the gas fireplace was also nice. Stayed here in the offseason, which is my favorite time on the coast -- storms rolling in off the ocean, cold and cloudy. But I'm sure it's lovely in the summer, too.
Offseason prices during the week were a bargain, but even the weekend rates weren't bad given the location. It's right off 101, but you'd never know it. Feels very secluded.

We always enjoy staying here because of the lovely beach and very clean, comfortable, updated and dog-friendly cottage like accommodations. The staff is friendly and helpful, the ocean view lovely and the main deck and firepit area overlooking the beach from the cliff above are such a great place to relax. Husband and I celebrated my milestone birthday here in early January and enjoyed delicious seafood meals at local Newport restaurants, the gorgeous coastal scenery, the Yaquina Head lighthouse just steps away from the motel and watching the sunset from our private deck. Dogs are made truly welcome with a generous fleece blanket to use during the stay. This time was especially meaningful for me because I spent an hour just enjoying the ocean breeze with my senior border collie on the grass near the firepit while my husband took a nap, and it turned out to be her last trip to the coast. Now I have a lovely memory of celebrating a birthday here as well as the lasting image of my sweet old girl enjoying a beautiful and balmy day in this scenic and peaceful place, If the stairs to Agate Beach from the motel are too steep for you or your dog, there is beachside parking and picnic area just south of the motel off Hwy 101 with a short walk to Agate beach that leads under the highway for a safe and accessible entry point. For good food, try Pacific Kitchen in Nye Beach, Clearwater restaurant or Ginos' Ocean Bleu at the marina in Newport. And even though the motel is right off Hwy 101, it seems to be a quiet location for a good night's sleep. The queen bed had a mattress that was a wee bit soft for our aging backs but everything about the rental units is well maintained and cozy.

Great location whether gong to lighthouse at park, walking the beach, or going down to surf .Winter is great for the storms, and summer for the sun. Town has innumerable eateries, beer pubs, and nice bay and nye beach for shopping. prices are reasonable at Agate Beach Motel, and if you are like us a return customer you automatically get 10% off. Our room # 5 has a carport and a view from the living room of the ocean.. Set up for young and older couples, families, active families as well as quiet for older couples. Agate Beach also has a sister property in Bend called Wall Street Suites. Having lived all over the United States New port is my favorite Coast city to go to and Agate Beach motel a favorite.

Agate Beach Motel is a very unique and charming property. It has been converted from an actual 1940 motel into fully furnished and functional condo-type units complete with living room, fully-equipped kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom with modern fittings. Rooms are finished with natural hardwood moldings, and there is a handmade natural wood coffee table in the living room. The (probably original) rooms directly face the ocean, and are separated by individual carports. The adjacent rooms look similar, but have parking out front. Each unit has a large private deck facing the ocean furnished with adirondack chairs. The view of the ocean and surfers from the bluff is actually better than a typical ocean view at sea level. We definitely plan to return here in the future.

Great place that is super dog friendly. Quaint and very clean accommodations. Shower was barely big enough for one person, but that worked for a couple of days. Beautiful grounds, well maintained, public beach access is better that property's long stair case and final access to beach (holding on to branches and jumping) Perhaps the motel could figure out something for a bit easier access, but as I said, public access is the easement to the side of property. The electric fireplace was fixed to the wall crooked - drove me nuts, but that's my own personal issue.
Regardless, I highly recommend this property, great staff, friendly cleaning staff and perfect for traveling with pooches!

We loved our stay at the Agate Beach Motel. The view was gorgeous and has great access to the beach (as long as you don't mind stairs). We felt very confident in the safety during the pandemic as they go to great lengths to clean and sanitize the rooms between guests. The staff is very friendly and great to work with. We loved being able to use the BBQ grill and make some tasty steaks.

Well solely based on the two youngsters ages between 7 and 10 who were running around playing a game of hide and seek slash tag and were laughing and giggling the whole time this was in between running up and down the stairs to the beach same laughing/giggling I would say this place was child approved.
We are on the north side of town by the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. It is about 2 miles into the heart of Newport from our property. Newport is not a very large town so it does not take long to get from place to place.
Sorry, for the delay...YES YES YES. But there are stairs.
There is no smoking permitted on Agate Beach Motel property.
