The Best Western Plus Agate Beach Inn garners praise for offering good value with its array of amenities and picturesque ocean views that justify the price, despite minor drawbacks. Guests consistently commend the cleanliness of the well-maintained rooms, which boast comfort and stunning views, although a few note the rooms can be snug and somewhat outdated.
The serene atmosphere, complete with a cozy fire pit and lush pool area, is widely appreciated, as is the hotel's convenient location near highway 101. Attentive service and a delightful dining experience also earn rave reviews from many travelers.

Detailed Reviews
Wow! This is one of the nicest Best Western's we have been to. It is a 6 story building north of "downtown" Newport, OR on the ocean side of the 101. We stopped just for one night on our way from Eureka to Aberdeen and, because we like to frequent Best Western, we chose this place. The hotel has ocean view rooms or not ocean view rooms (we had the latter) but each floor lobby has a little sitting area by the elevators where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view of the beach. We were delighted to find a very nice bar and restaurant at the beach level with friendly service and really delicious clam chowder. If we had had sweatshirts or jackets, we might have sat out on the outdoor terrace (enclosed inside a glass wall to ward off the wind).
There is a little kiosk in the lobby that sells snacks (and wine) to take to your room. The room accommodations are spacious, newly redone, clean, clean clean and comfortable. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the room with "the usual" coffee set up (including liquid coffeemate rations). My only complaint is that our room didn't have an ice bucket. I'm guessing this is a temporary oversight since it did have a microwave, refrigerator and "the usual" conveniences we expect from Best Western. No problem, though, as we just filled up the little plastic bathroom cups with ice cubes from the machine down the hall.

Hotel's Favourite
We’ve stayed there several times through the years. Mostly in April to celebrate a birthday❤️‍🩹
It’s a lovely clean hotel with great hospitality people at the front desk.
The views are exceptional … the Yaquina lighthouse is a wonderful view from our 6 floor room.
The bistro restaurant has very good food. Somewhat limited but always tasteful.
The Dungeness crab omelettes are to die for.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This is a great hotel with a lot going for it...location (overlooking a huge sandy beach and fantastic ocean views), a really good onsite restaurant (Seaglass Bistro...see separate review) and an unusual, but functional physical layout (restaurant on level 1, lobby on level 2 and open parking lot on level 6).
I've stayed here twice in recent months, in June and in August. In June, the frigid wind whipping across the beach and blowing stinging sand meant the hardy souls who ventured out had miles of open beach to themselves. In August, the weather was warm, the winds mild and there were lots of families and energetic dogs on the beach. On both visits, there were intermittent rain squalls.
A previous reviewer was peeved about the windows not being kept clean. I saw the restaurant's windows being washed down each morning, but no one should expect the hotel to do the same every time the sand blows. I don't even know how they keep all the sand from invading the hotel. I know my boots were clogged with wet sand and I'm sure I left plenty in my room even though I tried not to do so.
If you live on a beach, you'll get sand in your shoes (and between your toes).
The six floors from parking lot to restaurant, with lobby and rooms in between meant a lot of people using the two guest elevators a lot...when they worked. No problem in June but they were off and on during my August visit. When they were out, guests had to share the much smaller service elevator with all the support staff, including housekeeping, engineers, deliveries, etc. I heard a lot of people confused about where to go, but never heard any serious complaints. And all the reception staff patiently and pleasantly answered everyone's repeated questions about what's wrong and when will it be fixed.
As nice as the hotel is, it's aging and, perhaps, the elevators are just one of those things that wears out. Those of us who have owned homes know the feeling. There are other signs of wear and tear, but overall it remains a very nice hotel.
I noticed on my first visit (king room) that the lighting in the bathroom was really dim. It would have been a bigger problem if my wife had been with me. I didn't have to deal with makeup. The lighting in my August bathroom (double queen room) was quite a bit better.
The room air conditioning system was easy to program and worked well, with the A/C in the outer wall blowing quite quietly. However, in my August room, the only easy chair in the room was positioned between the desk and the A/C and was not usable. I thought about moving it, but the only place I might have done so would have been away from any reading lights. During the day I used the ample light coming in the windows, put the rolling desk chair in front of the window and used the easy chair to put my feet upon. It worked out OK.
In spite of the many challenges I guess any day at the beach is a good day, for both hosts and guests. Of course, it's harder for the hosts. The guests leave, but the hotel's challenges remain.

We booked only a month in advance and beggars can't be choosers, especially when travelling with a wheelchair user, a dog and a 3rd person, our son.
For the price we paid, we should have received 50% more room. We had a modest view at the very end near the pool and a very small room that wasn't ADA compliant in today's world. It was a room with 2 Queen Beds, one of them being only 10" from the adjacent wall. Our cooler that barely fits on the floor of our back seat could barely fit between the bed and the wall. Aside from the bathroom itself, there was no 5' turning radius for an electric wheelchair user.

This hotel is a hidden gem in Agate Beach! The location is fantastic just steps from the wide open beaches and a view of Yaquina Head Lighthouse --about 5 -10 minute by car. Great first impression with a modern lobby and attentive front desk staff. I got their 6th floor oceanview room and it's magnificent with a standing deck that provided a sweeping view of beach. The room was large and immaculate! The hotel also has a convenient AND delicious restaurant, Sea Glass Bistro. I enjoyed delicious crab dip appetizer and homemade garlic bread with more butter, for the entree, I had a perfectly prepared steak and for dessert, a delightful piece of cheesecake. I didn't have time to enjoy their huge pool and hot tub surrounded by mature trees and a fantastic view (next time). Go and discover this serene and perfect gem on the beach!

I get that rooms are higher priced, it’s summer and weekend ok but $450 a night? We check in and the ammonia hits like a freight train as soon as the door opens. The side of the shower was covered in drawings in hair from the last guest. When a room change was requested they said they were booked full and said they would come clean the shower. The cleaning lady was very apologetic and said that was disgusting and would get us appetizer credits to the restaurant. And tried to spray enough cleaner to cover the smell. So we had a clean bathroom headache and just settled into bead and the fire alarm goes off and the hotel gets evacuated at 11:30pm (I get it, fire alarm you have to get out). Walk back into the after 30 min…wham! Dog pee smell right in the face again…a lot of money to pay for a stinky room for one night

This was our second stay at the Agate Beach Inn and I look forward to my next stay with them. The front desk staff and Assistant Manager are amazing! Most of the rooms with oceanview are stunning. My family members had a room that was tucked away in the corner, but still had an oceanview; it wasn't 'as nice' of a view as they had last time but the room itself felt bigger and had a couch in it instead of two chairs.
There is a path towards the beach, it's a bit of a walk and may be a bit more strenuous for individuals with disabilities to navigate (I have largely been lucky and have had good days), and, unless I am not aware of it or just completely overlooked it, I have not seen a wheelchair access to this part of the beach. The hotel itself, though, seems to be quite accessible with ramps and elevators and space to navigate.
Breakfast is not included, although, the hotel does have a bistro on the first floor (accessible by stairs and I saw they have a lift within the bistro as well). The food is overall really good but can get quite expensive if this is the only place used to obtain food. Dinner options are relatively limited unless you enjoy seafood. The baked chicken was really good, but for $23 I had expected at least a few more vegetables and perhaps some rice or a side salad. The outdoor patio is cozy, but even with the heat from the fireplace can get quite chilly during the fall.
We utilized room service for breakfast and next time I stay, I may choose this option again despite having spent $40 on breakfast - however, that is easily spent at McDonalds nowadays, too. The food was still hot when it came to the room and was good.
Overall, I definitely recommend the hotel!

When we checked in we were placed in a clean, comfy King room. I had requested an upper floor quiet room facing the woods/hillside. Unfortunately, after we got settled in the room we heard a yappy dog barking somewhere above us. The barking continued, so we notified the manager and she moved us one floor down. We could still hear the barking in the new room, so the manager gave us a free upgrade to an ocean view room on the other side of the hotel, where we could not hear any barking. Her willingness to help us get the quiet room we wanted made our stay very pleasant and enjoyable. Thank you so much!

Clean, large room with a wonderful ocean view. The fresh, sea air rushing in through the large sliding door was great. We enjoyed the fire pit, the restaurant, and the conference room area. The pool and hot tub area is also very nice with live plants and dim lighting. We really enjoyed the hostess, Robert at the bar, and Nancy, our server.

This was our second summer stay and we all enjoyed it again. We were traveling with our grandsons, 9 & 10 and they loved it as much as we did. It is a great location, looking onto the ocean and a short walk to the beach and still fairly close to town. They have a great indoor pool and hot tub, very clean and warm, surrounded by glass so you can enjoy the outdoor beauty. The restaurant on site has delicious food and an excellent wait staff. We highly recommend this hotel.

I agree with Kathy T., it's a great facility and location, but you'd have to ask the hotel what they could provide to accommodate a wedding. However, my wife and I just spent 2 nights at the iconic Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast (between Yachats and Florence), and they host weddings. The B+B has a huge fenced private area that is magnificent.
Another idea...we also stayed 2 nights at the Wayside Lodge just north of Yachats, and they have a pretty large grassy area from the lodging area to the easy to access beach. I'm not sure if they could accommodate a special event like a wedding, so maybe give them a call and talk to Lyndsey.
Feel free to see the reviews I left for the places I've mentioned here on T. Advisor for wome pictures.
I believe they do offer online check in, but we went in. There were a couple people in front of us and it was interesting seeing and hearing how they took care of the issue the people were having. I booked directly on the BW website after checking the Travelocity and other sites. I got a better price for the room. The people in front of me booked through Expedia and actually talked to an agent. They requested an ocean view and had pets. The room they got was on the other side and they were not aware of the pets. The hotel staff were gracious and were able to accommodate their needs, but were unable to do anything about the fee from Expedia, hopefully they were able to get a full refund.
This location is probably too far north to have a good view of Yaquina Bay if fireworks viewing is the point of the trip.
You can have 5 people in the room. Thank you for asking!
A hotel cannot charge you for a service animal. This hotel did not charge us for our service dog in training and were very accommodating.
