King Tides on the Oregon coast are an annual event not to be missed. Spread over three Fall and Winter months on specific weekends, these spectacles of Mother Nature serve as the perfect opportunity for families, couples, and solo adventurers to glimpse the most beautiful coast line in the western United States at its roaring finest. My online lodging search was thankfully brief when I quickly discovered Moolack Shores Inn and immediately loved the location, the vibe and the nicely situated property five miles north of Newport, OR. Peggy is a wonderful host: responsive, respectful, and so relcoming. (clever, huh?). Moolack Shores Inn is located on gentle high ground featuring a commanding view of the mighty Pacific. Each of the rooms are creatively themed; a few face the ocean; a few, situated on the north and south flanks of the Inn offer wonderful views both from behind their sliding glass doors AND their neat balconies. There's a wonderful staircase that leads to the beach. Look south, and you see the occasional bright beacon flash of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Look north upon endless coastline. Look west and become mesmerized by the repetitive dance of crashing waves finding repose at your feet. Our room had a fireplace in which Dura logs are the preferred fuel. Perfect! The queen bed was super comfy. The bathroom was spotless and the water hot!! The mini-kitchenette was all we needed to prep our dinner and breakfast. I happen to love hardwood floors, which are perfectly suited to the beach environment. There was a romantic 'lil couch perfect for us to enjoy a movie or two with plenty of online content services. Crack the sliding glass doors just a bit and you're enveloped by the lull of ocean waves echoing up the hill. As far as I could tell, every room was occupied. Yet, I didn't see or hear ANYone during our stay! What a resort!!! The wooden 'Old Salt' sea captain keeps watch over the stairway to the sand, and with Peggy at the helm of this unforgettable getaway, you'll find yourself planning a second stay the second you arrive!!

It's not a 5 star place but it's nice, clean, comfortable, relaxing, has a kitchen, and an exceptional view!! We found the bed a little firm but falling asleep to the lullaby of waves rolling in and the sea crashing on shore.....slept like babies with a full stomach and empty diaper! In the morning, open the curtains, crack the back sliding door, cook up a delicious salmon or crab Benedict and start your day right! Unfortunately, we always returned after dark...dark comes too early in the winter...and our ocean view was less than stellar. I wish more places had lights to spot light the view at night. Although we didn't need anything, our contact, Peggy was great to deal with. We look forward to a return trip to Moolack Shores!

Staying at the Moolack Shores Inn was a mixed experience. On the positive side, everything worked well, like the plumbing, the lighting, and the TV. There was plenty of hot water, but it took a long time (3 or 4 minutes, or more?) to get there. There were enough linens and from the small contact I had with the staff (one woman), it was positive as she was very friendly. There is a stairway down to the beach which is a major plus as Moolack Beach is a beautiful beach.
On the negative side, however, a number of things could be improved. The view of the beach and ocean, one of the big attractions of the inn, was permanently muddied as the double pane windows appeared to be leaking to me. They were cloudy and blurred because the integrity of the gas that filled them was compromised. Consequently, it was impossible to get a clear view of the outside. In my non-professional opinion, I think all the windows in that unit need to be repaired or replaced.
The bed itself, although clean and big enough, was incredibly soft. The first time I sat on the bed I felt like I'd sink to the floor. It was difficult to get used to and if you like a firm or even medium-firm bed, you might not like this one. I sleep on a very firm bed at home, but surprisingly I managed to eventually get used to this overly soft bed without experiencing back problems, but I still didn't like it.
The place initially had several flies buzzing around and there was a handy fly swatter on one of the counters, suggesting that flies could be a problem. However, after some diligent fly searching out and fly swatting, I managed to eliminate the problem and over the three nights I stayed, it became a non-issue.
Finally, there's no breakfast or food and the building and room itself, although clean, had an old, tired feeling that suggested it could use some refreshing. Overall, given the price, I felt it was an average experience, especially since it lacked that crystal clear view of the ocean and beach, which was important to me.

We go to Oregon coast every year for past 10 years, seems like it’s not important to supply your customers with updated, clean comfortable lodging as long as you have a view!!! Pictures on internet did not show what we truly were going to get! We booked the king bed with two bunk beds in walls last minute. The stairs in our room leading to room on lowers level looked like they had NEVER been cleaned. The two lounge chairs were so filthy I had to put blanket over one just to sit in it. Paint job was comical, it truly looked like a 13 yr old painted and scuff marks everywhere. The bathroom was terrible, so small. cob webs on ceiling near light, light was not adequate for make up, tub was so small , no mat. Towel rack fell off wall, husband told front desk and they said last person in room had told them same thing. Then why not fix it if your charging $159 a night? The bed was comfortable…

The whole Newport area is overpriced for inferior lodging, tried to find something outside of town but this place was no exception. The rate the I thought I was booking, 2 star, was not the rate I ended up paying, which was 3 star.
It is a beautiful location, right on the beach and we didn't notice the highway traffic but that might have been because we listened to our neighbors every minute we were in our room. We listened to a baby crying, a tv blasting, and our bed trembled when neighbors walked with heavy steps.
Room was clean and well-stocked with coffee and food utensils. Bed was mushy and gave us backaches.
It's clear that the manager doesn't want to interact with her customers - there's a 1 hour check-in window at the end of the day after which the office closes and a drop box for returning your key the next morning. I overheard her tell a customer "I'm not here" when they tried to check in at the office after that window.

A perfect example of what staying at the coast has been before corporate chains showed up. If you aren't into a coast to coast cookie cutter experience, Moolack Shores fits the bill! Peggy has worked wonders creating a completely unique place. All the rooms are different with a special theme. The attention to detail and care is really evident. Absolutely clean. We stayed in the Camelot Room - cozy, clean and a full view of the beach unsurpassed! More than generous amounts of Coffee pods, with creamers and sugar (BYO Splenda or such) Microwave and Coffee maker of course but also a hot plate and toaster available for use. Some plates, silverware, glasses and coffee mugs provided. Bed was a nice Medium firmness, Pillows soft. There's a fireplace and they provide a Duraflame log that is easy to start (lighter provided), burns for several hours, warm and great ambiance! Has a large screen TV with Roku subscription and disc player. Fast strong free WiFi. Large deck for our use. On the south side there is a sturdy staircase that leads directly to beach with benches on landing for viewing. Finally Peggy and staff are very nice and want to make your stay a 5 star experience - just ask!

This place is a great location, it is tired and needs someone to come in and do a deep clean and professional paint and touch ups. We stayed for 3 nights, reaching anyone in the office on the phone took multiple calls. Office closes at 5 and check in isn’t until 4 so not the easiest schedule when dealing with travelers, owner does give you her personal number once there so that was helpful. Check in was smooth, owners Son Peter checked us in, he was very nice and said he just finished cleaning our room, I try not to be picky but this place was not cheap and stains and dingy linens as well as just overall run down was a bit of a let down, we did not complain, because we had no where else to go, we just cleaned up ourselves and made the best of it. For anyone wanting to stay I just want to give an idea because the reviews are so much different than we experienced. First we were in the nautical room, you open the door and it’s a flight down, ducking your head head it’s steep, I was not expecting that at all, no carpet under the bed like in pics so sand in the bed no matter what, fridge/freezer wasn’t clean, ice build up in freezer with yellow I don’t know what. They do provide a keurig and plenty of k-cups so that was nice. They could trim the bushes so the ocean was more visible while seated on patio. Room was very cute but it looked like they painted and didn’t care. Bathtub had a dirt ring like it’s never been cleaned, tiny bathroom. It was all very doable but the price was not worth the experience for us. Maybe because it is down stairs a vacuum and mop don’t make it down? Sleeping was hard if anyone was up and moving above you, it was so loud. I’m not saying it’s bad, it just needs a lot of TLC and bleach!

Lower your expectations and you won't be disappointed. Lower them a lot.
We stayed in the Hawaiian room. On their website, it was advertised as having a fireplace. It did. A crappy electric fireplace. If you want a real "fireplace", verify that it burns wood. This was very disappointing. This was a rare one night romantic get-away for us and we specifically want a fire. Unfortunately, they only have 4 rooms with real fireplaces and they were reserved.
The place is run down and it looks like it was painted inside and out by a 10 yr old. The fan in the bathroom didn't work, so it fogged up the bathroom and made everything wet and slick.
For the positives, the manager Peggy was very responsive. She texted my wife and confirmed the details within a few minutes after making the reservation, even though she was absolutely no help resolving the fireplace problem.
The bed was comfortable and the linens were clean and fresh. The rest of the furniture was basic, but comfortable. The kitchenette was nice. We cooked a nice dinner and the kitchen had everything we needed.
The view is amazing. Probably one of the best we've ever had in a room on the coast. The Hawaiian room is a corner room and has a deck and stunning unobstructed view West out to the ocean and North up the beach towards Beverly beach.
Actually, its a pretty good deal for the money. Like the title says, lower your expectations and you won't be disappointed.......and if you want a fireplace, make sure it burns wood and not electricity.

Yes they take pets' I do not know if there is a size limit or a breed of dog that they do not accept, give them a call. The manager's sister can be a bit "rude" I have been told for the past 3 year's that is is that way because of some sort of illness at times, so try and catch her brother he is easier to talk to.
