We stayed at The Nines for 3 nights with our Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program. With that program, we got a $100 food credit, $60 per person per day breakfast credit, and guatanteed late checkout. The experience at The Nines was amazing. It started out pre-arrival when Cruz Malochwiej, Concierge, reached out directly via email about 2 weeks before our trip to help us plan anything extra for our trip. Extras suggested were dinner reservations, tour guides, in room massage, etc as well as information gathered like what guests were coming, purpose of our stay etc. We took advantage of booking private transportation from the airport, which was perfect after a long travel day, and booking in-room massages, a great way to start a vacation! Cruz even went above and beyond by providing a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room on arrival to help us celebrate our anniversary. Our corner suite was a perfect size with a lovely view of downtown. The bed was very comfortable and our bathroom was well appointed with a shower that had good water pressure. We dined at Departure, getting the chef's tasting menu, which was a fun experience. The hotel is ideally located centrally in downtown, close to many food carts and shopping. We highly recommend The Nines and would stay there again if we find ourselves in Portland!

We stayed here for three nights, and overall, we had a great time! The entire hotel exhibits a lot of arts (paintings, photos, sculptures), which we really like. The location is quite convenient to go many local attractions and restaurants, e.g., the Portland Saturday Market, etc., within walking distance. Our room was clean and modern with excellent bath amenities. Their fitness center is also quite upscale. In addition, the hotel front desk gave us free tickets for the Portland Art Museum (Note that it is closed on Mondays). Finally, they discounted $30 every day toward our food spendings (breakfast or bar at the hotel as well as room services). But note that those $30 do not count for mini bar in one's room. The only negative comment I have is the noise due to rock concerts (almost every night) at the nearby Pioneer Courthouse Square (the events called PDX Live). From 8pm to 10:30pm or so, the noise from those concerts disturbed us. Of course, hotel cannot control this problem, but perhaps, they should install a soundproof window or shields or something; otherwise, customers cannot relax. Hence, I wanted to rate this hotel with 5 stars, I decided to give 4 stars instead.

Dear WeekendJazzMusician, Thank you for the honest review. I’m glad there are a lot of highlights to your stay; and an opportunity to be better. We love PDX Live at the heart of downtown at Pioneer Square, however it does bring along new challenges for us here to ensure a quiet and comfortable stay for all guests. Please reach out to me directly next time you are in Portland. I would love the opportunity to improve the hotel's perspective and prove that are are a perfect hotel for you. My wife and I can't say enough good things about this hotel. This place is beyond beautiful. The lobby of this hotel is filled with original art work, and interesting sculptures. Because of the credit card company we have, we had a lot of really wonderful upgrades and additional benefits during our weekend. When we got to our room, our breath was taken away by how modern, beautiful, and cozy our room was. We had a large plush bed with fluffy bedding, turquoise colored couch and chairs, marble tables, sparkling chandelier and a fully stocked mini fridge. This hotel also offers room service breakfast and coffee that we took advantage of throughout the weekend. Their restaurant on site was also top notch with food and drinks. All and in all, this place was beyond amazing and we would for sure stay again.

While the rooms are on the small side the entire hotel and rooms have a ton of character that they have kept from the original. We booked a rate through Amex that included a dining credit and free breakfast. We used our credit at departure, it was kind of a trendy place that maybe tries a bit to hard but overall it was a fun vibe and we enjoyed our meals and drinks. For breakfast we ate at Urban Farmer, I had the steak and eggs which was phenomenal. My wife enjoys eggs Benedict and said that theirs was one of the best she's had. While Portland has been a bit "down" in recent times this hotel is in a great location and can't control what the city does or doesn't do in the areas around it. When we went it had recently been cleaned up and we felt fine heading out day and night, I've been in the same are during the day and felt unsafe with homeless openly using drugs on the streets so it just depends on when you go. Overall I would stay again and plan to in the near future.

We spent a night in Portland last weekend for the Billie Eilish concert and at the last minute my girlfriend decided to surprise me with a stay at the Nines. She had recently stayed there with a friend and really hasn't stopped talking about the hotel, the service, the food, the location, and what an amazing experience she had and wanted to share the experience with me. What luxury! The hotel itself is simply beautiful. The Nines spares no expense with making everything about it the highest of quality. We arrived early and were able to get an early check-in. The valet and front desk service went out of their way to make our arrival easy and comfortable. Before heading to our room we enjoyed a delicious small plate in the beautiful library. Our room was a corner room on the 12th floor and had amazing city views, from the lite up Christmas tree in Pioneer Plaza to the city landscape and Willamette River. Simply amazing view. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were perfect as was the rest of the amenities. Sheryl, from the concierge team, surprised us with a bottle of champagne, a basket of local treats and thoughtful welcoming note wishing us a wonderful time at our concert. Sheryl also stopped by to greet us in the hotel library (lobby/bar/dining area) along with the hotel manager. All the staff were so warm, kind and welcoming. I am not sure I have ever experience such wonderful customer service. I can't wait to go back! Located in the center of the city, it is the perfect location. I can't wait to return in the spring and try out the hotel bikes!

The Nines is a beautiful hotel with a a wonderful staff and beautiful rooms. My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of her annual company celebration and every member of their staff was wonderful. So, why only 3 out of 5?
We had a suite on the 7th floor on the north side of the building, which happened to be directly above a Max (Portland's commuter train) line. You could hear the train throughout the night, basically every 30-45 minutes. So, no sleep either night. I've stayed in numerous Hampton Inns near airports or major highways that were significantly better soundproofed. It might be better if you have a higher floor or are on a different side of the building, but I can't give 5 stars to a 5 star hotel where I couldn't catch a wink.

We had an amazing experience at The Nines and highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Portland!! We were doing a 40th bday “girls weekend” to Portland. This hotel is very centrally located with almost all major sites at walking distance. Although location aside what made the trip so memorable was the amazing hospitality of all the staff and particularly Cruz M. who helped us plan out our itinerary ahead of our trip, made sure to personalize the experience and went above-and-beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Along with the amazing service the room was nice / luxurious and the hotel food / bar was incredible - along with staff available 24 / 7 to answer questions and ensure all guests are well taken care of. This will be our go-to spot for all trips to Portland and thanks again Cruz M. / all the staff for making our (albeit short!) trip so amazing / memorable!!

The hotel is in a great location and has beautiful rooms but sadly misses the mark in the customer service department. We checked in and our reservation was found under OUR name but for the rest of our stay our room was under a different name. This was odd and didn’t seem like a big deal at first but the problem is that it was never corrected by the staff and it kept being an inconvenience. The first time it came up was when we called down to the front desk late and the staff greeted my husband using a different last name (not even close to ours). When correcting the employee she laughed awkwardly and sort of apologized but it made us feel a little uneasy. Did they double book this room? Is someone going to come in late at night thinking this is their room? She didn’t seem to know why that would have happened, or that concerned with it. Then when receiving our departing email with the receipt for the charges it is addressed to the same incorrect name (but with our credit card number). My husband informed them of this and once again an apology was made but it was not corrected. How do we know this? We decided to eat breakfast at Urban Farmer before leaving and when asked if we wanted to just charge it to our room we agreed. The server asked for our room number and name. You can guess what happened next. She returned saying “I have a different last name listed with that room number” so we just paid for it with our card. When we told her that this was our 3rd time being told this she said “wow you are paying too much for this to keep happening repeatedly”, and she is right. Between this and a late night request for silverware which never was delivered (door dash forgot it which is not the hotel’s fault but we were told it would be right up and that it was no problem by the front desk and instead my husband had to go down to the front desk and ask again). The employee working the front desk said “oh they never brought it?”
Also, the breakfast request form that they provide on the bed for you to fill out and hang on your door if you want to order breakfast for the next morning was a used one and already filled out by someone else.
These are small issues but a self proclaimed luxury 5 star hotel should not have repeated issues that could be easily corrected. The first person aware of the wrong name attached to our room should have corrected it. Most 5 star hotels make sure that a simple request the the front desk is fulfilled.
Lastly, it seemed odd and inconvenient that all room service options end at 11 pm. For a popular hotel in the middle of a city this seems early. We would have liked to be able to order in when returning from our concert.
For these reasons we will probably try a different hotel when visiting Portland again despite enjoying our room and the location.

This elegant hotel with artistic interiors, well kept rooms and creative meals has staff that exceeds the beauty of the surroundings. I wish I could remember all the names so I hope calling out Tanner and Diamond from the restaurant identifies them and their friendly and professional service correctly. The sense of welcome was set by Janessa at the reception desk who called me by name each time I saw her with only one introduction. She was quick to offer to help with anything…and did it joyfully. Feeling welcome matters the most and these people are credits to the hotel, their families and themselves.

We had a wonderful stay at the Nines. Everyone was so kind and attentive. They provided dog beds and bowls for our little pups, who were also welcomed without any issues. Janessa at the front desk checked us in and provided excellent restaurant suggestions for us to check out while in Portland. The room was clean, and despite being in the middle of downtown, we didn't have any issues with noise from inside or outside disturbing us. Valets (shout out to Arash) did a good job getting cars in and out quickly, and we found the text system easy to use. Fantastic experience all around.
