I called the hotel saying my husband was ill. They found a room on a busy weekend, and met me at the door. Their service is exceptionally warm and supportive. At least some rooms are suites with kitchenettes. For us, being steps from Powell Books was a wonderful surprise, with some of Portland's best restaurants, and food carts nearby. Serving...

I'm happy we were able to accommodate you and your husband during his illness. It's extremely troublesome when you're away from home and become ill. The Mark Spencer staff takes great pride in their ability to serve others - especially when the unexpected happens. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your husband. I hope he's on the...

From it's old-world charm and history, to it's unbelievably comfortable beds and silky soft bedding, the Mark Spenser was a wonderful surprise. The complimentary 5 o'clock "Happy Hour" with its wonderful munchies and selection of local wines was an added bonus, as it was a nice way to meet and speak to other guests in the hotel. Overall a wonderful...

The Mark Spencer Hotel does have a rich history with many interesting stories. - including a talking parrot! We are the oldest hotel in Portland and some of the artwork displayed in our lobby shows the changes over the years. I hope you had a chance to see some of the artwork of our "early years." We are renovating this...

We greatly enjoyed our stay at this historic older hotel. There are some compromises you have to accept in staying at an older property, but for us they are well worth it. First, there is no fancy lobby, or, to our knowledge, even an at grade entrance. The hotel entry is slightly hard to find, in fact, as it is...

We stayed at the Mark Spencer recently with our infant son. The location of the hotel was perfect- walking distance to much of the downtown. The staff was also extremely helpful, and we liked that there was breakfast and wine reception daily- a great perk. We were less impressed with the rooms themselves- they were very small and outdated for...

I have stayed at the Mark Spencer many times over the years and have come to think of the hotel as my home away from home in Portland. As many others have commented, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast is very good, as is the afternoon tea and cookies and wine and cheese. The upper floor...

We liked the Mark Spencer. Not a luxury hotel, but still a solid choice. Room was clean, we had a nice kitchenette, and the place had some history (was opened in 1907 as the Nortonia). I liked the breakfast; adequate and I loved the coffee machine (can make a coffee, latte, hot chocolate, mocha, etc.) Nice touches like free cookies...

Enjoyed my stay - good size apartment with kitchenette. Some musty odour when you walk in but not noticeable when you open the windows. Good variety for the continental breakfast with good coffee machine with options. Tea served in the afternoon with cookies and a wine tasting from 5-6 pm provided a nice personal touch. WiFi is free and dependable...

Wonderful location, service and hospitality at this hotel! We were looking for a family friendly place in the downtown district with an reasonably priced suite to accomdate our two-year old child. The Mark Spencer fit the bill. The staff placed a crib upon request in our Jr. Suite (with separate room) and our daughter slept well the time we were...
