This is a small hotel, clean, and in a great location near many good restaurants and basic shopping. The bed is very comfortable. Very helpful, friendly guy at the front desk at check in. TV is more complicated to work than most and instructions in the room are inadequate, but the front desk guy came right down and made it work properly. He also brought me a suitcase stand since these are not standard in the room. (What?!?) Breakfast was mediocre, but there was a Wawa across the street for good coffee. Nice gift of snacks upon check-in, perhaps because I'm a Rewards member.
The hotel was very clean and the beds were comfortable and clean. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful they told us how to get to where we wanted to go.The breakfast was okay but the eggs were cold and they had no strawberry jam for the waffles.
I think this hotel is not worth the price point it charges. It is run down and in need of many upgrades. After check in I had an issue with I'm assuming from the entire conversation I could hear through the walls were some crackheads. I went and talked to the clerk and said he would resolve it. In my head I thought "yeah right", but I didn't have any other issue with them yelling at each other. The room had a burn hole in the chair, the welcome binder with local contact information had cigarrette ashes in it when I opened it. There were little things you could tell the room wasn't cleaned up to most people's standards. This hotel worked for what I needed it for, a place to sleep. It did include breakfast and I did think that was okay.
While it is a nice LOOKING hotel, hotel guests beware, the staff and management is pretty shady.
Good good/ok: The room was nice. Comfortable, clean, looked updated. The location is also great. A short drive to many dining options, Parx casino is right there. Franklin Mills Mall (what's left of it) was less then 10 minutes away.
The bad/rest: We paid extra to book a suite with a jacuzzi. Filled the tub, pushed the button, and find out it was broken. When we first called the front desk, we were hung up. So we went down and the same person that hung up on came up to the room to see for themselves. They acted oh soooooo surprised that it didn't work. It was clear in that moment that THEY KNEW it didn't work. Who knows how long it has been broken with them not telling people as they checked them into the room they paid extra for. They weren't planning on saying anything or offering even the slightest of discount for the broken tub when we checked in. Told that the manager was not in til morning so to talk to her then. When we did she just sort of shrugged it off and claimed she would make a note to have it fixed. Again, no apology, no offer to compensate for the inconvenience, just a shrug.
It should also be noted, that while waiting at the front desk the night we discovered it broken, we watched as another guest (NOTE: we did not know HIS issue) tell them that if they didn't get a switch his room or some kind of credit, he was leaving and stopping payment on this credit card. Needless to say, he was walking out with his suitcase minutes later. It was then around that same time that things really seemed to start to get very vocal at the front desk for about an hour or so. You could hear the lobby from our room and at least two others made very loud trips to the desk over some kind of issues in their rooms. Again, I cannot speak for these other guests EXACT issues where but it was clear there were a LOT of issues in this place.
This was the point I was ready to give the place 3 stars. Breakfast lost one of those stars.
I go to Choice Hotels a lot so I know the standard breakfast and the standard breakfast procedures as well. Every OTHER Choice I have been to had someone tending that breakfast area from start to finish. If the plates ran out, they replaced it. If coffee ran out, they made more. If someone didn't know how to use the waffle machine, they taught them how. That was NOT this choice breakfast. This was a fend for yourself area with no plates, a broken juice machine, empty coffee pump, and cold eggs. And when a fellow guest asked for someone to come help those of us in the area, the person from the front desk sort of beguilingly came to help with a fake smile, did only one of the MANY tasks needed to make the area up to the usual choice standard and then walked away. WORST Choice Hotel breakfast I have EVER had at a Choice Hotel.
In fact, I dare say this place was the worst Choice Hotel I have ever been too. PERIOD. A nice room can only go so far when the staff is so not on the same level as the room. I have stayed at choice hotels with less impressive rooms but it was a much more enjoyable experience due to the friendly staff and the worth the price of stay free breakfast in the morning, something hard to come by. I would never stay here again and I don't say that often.
Was pleasantly surprised that the property was superclean! But, I also saw a sign in the parking area that stated "Not Responsible for Damage to or Theft of your Vehicle. Park at your own risk." No video camera's in the parking lot? Not a secure parking area. Good for a quick overnight stay while visiting Parx Casino but not good for much else. No lounge, no pool and not even a bench near the outdoor smoking area. This hotel backs up to a residential neighborhood, which made us even MORE anxious with regard to the Parking lot issues! Rooms were very clean, but def need an update. Staff was friendly and courteous. Probably won't be heading back to this hotel anytime soon.
