My wife, daughter and granddaughter all stayed here on a trip to Harrisburg for a wedding. Everything was superb. The staff was maybe the best I've ever encountered. Large rooms, quick elevators, large parking garage, great location. You won't be sorry you chose the Harrisburg Hilton.

My husband and I booked a weekend getaway to go to Hersheypark. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. The bathroom had a raised sink and looked recently renovated. They have special cleaning procedures due to the pandemic. The cost of self parking was only $10 which isn't bad for staying in the city. We requested a room with a roll in shower but didnt get. It wansnt a big deal so we didnt bring it to the hotels attention. I noticed the bill I received when checking out was double the price that I was quoted, brought that to their attention, and it was corrected promptly. I would stay again if I am in the Harrisburg/Hershey area again.

I was staying at the Hilton Harrisburg so that I may attend the Farm Show and it was a great hotel with easy access to the Farm Show Complex. January was a great time to visit the downtown Harrisburg area because it was not very crowded and there were a ton of great restaurants nearby (I visited Taste Buffalo and Hops, Vines, and Spirits tasting room). It was also very convenient for attending Catholic Mass since St. Patrick's is only a quarter of a mile away.

Recently stayed here while in town for business and was shocked by the number of issues I encountered. Upon booking, I thought it would be worth paying more for the location, but clearly I was mistaken. The hotel lobby and restaurant look very nice, but the actual rooms feel old, dingey, and dirty. Dispite being on the 13th floor I somehow felt like I was in an old basement :(. My bed had several dark hairs under and on top of the covers making it obvious they hadnt changed the linens since the last guest, the shower leaked constantly and the drain was clogged, causing standing water whenever I took a shower. The toilet also didnt flush unless I held down the handle. Woman at the front desk (I think her name was sabrina? could be wrong) was very rude and dismissive to me when I mentioned these concerns and truly wanted to bring their attention to what I assumed was an unusual occerence. Her attitude made it seem like that was how all their rooms were... Really disappointed overall, I've stayed at many hiltons across the country as an HHonors member and clearly this location is not up to their typical standards. Will not be staying again, it was a hugely expensive mistake, that I hope anyone reading this will not make as well.

My boyfriend and I came to this hotel for a weekend get away for the July 4th weekend. Upon arrival, we entered the hotels garage and entered through their rear entrance which was filthy dirty. It looked like the elevators and the walkway hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time and it wreaked of urine. We proceeded into the elevator and through their lobby and the closer that we got to the front desk, the nicer the hotel looked. The staff was nice, well dressed, and pleasant which certainly didn’t match the condition of the building. We didn’t know how to feel initially. We checked in and proceeded to our room on the 10th floor. We completely unpacked and hung out in the room for about an hour. When I went to use the restroom, I realized that the toilet wasn’t connected - AT ALL! The hardware wasn’t installed inside of the toilet! Now I have a dilemma as the common area bathrooms were not open. We called down to the front desk and explained the situation and we were told that someone would be up immediately to fix the toilet. We get a call back 10 minutes later from a very nice person at the front desk apologizing profusely stating that the room should have never been rented. The front desk person offered us an upgrade to a room on the 15th floor at no additional charge due to the inconvenience. Sounds lovely but I still had to use the bathroom and had to pack all of our stuff up (I had already hung everything and folded our clothes and put them in the drawers). Anyway, we then got the the 15th floor and saw the room. It was beautiful for the first 10 minutes. That is until we realized that the refrigerator didn’t work (it was completely iced over and not cold); there was dust everywhere and it looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned in months; there were food crumbs and plastic food utensils behind and underneath the bed; there was what looked like bodily fluids on the end table that had dried up and started to crack - sadly, I could go on. The staff had the NERVE to place us in a room without inspecting it prior to giving us keys knowing what we just had been through. To add insult to injury, the room had signs throughout stating that the room was santizined due to COVID - seeing this made us lose all trust in the hotel and the Hilton brand as a whole. Because we were completely exhausted at this point, I decided to sanitize and clean the entire room myself. While I was doing that, my boyfriend was dealing with management to get the refrig fixed. We were uncomfortable for our entire stay. We communicated our concerns to the General Manager which resulted in a credit to our bill. We were not looking for compensation, although we appreciated it. We were looking for management to take responsibility and accountability for renting rooms to us that were not fit to be rented and hopefully make some much needed changes. We are pretty laid back people and don’t usually make a fuss, but we felt it necessary to share this experience because it was awful. It’s a shame because it seems like some lovely people work at this hotel, but this asset is not being managed properly and it makes the brand as a whole look bad.

My evening full of issues began at check in. I am in town for only a single night for business purposes. When checking into my room with a reserved king, I am told that there are no king rooms available and the only option is a room with 2 double beds. Reluctantly I accept since I have no other available options. I then walk into my room to a blast of cold air greeting me (It’s currently October and 47 degrees outside). I attempt to turn the heat on only to find out that, no matter the thermostat setting, only cold air is blowing. I call the front desk who sends an engineer up. He promptly arrives to tell me that the building is very old and can only have the heat or AC on at a single time so there will be no heat tonight (not sure who needs AC this time of year). He then hands me a mini-space heater and leaves. Because I’m not freezing, I go to take a hot shower...but alas there are no shampoo, conditioner, or lotion bottles stocked in the room. As I write this review, I am still awaiting the front desk to bring them up. Also, when I stepped out of my room briefly earlier this evening, I was greeted by multiple housekeeping staff members not wearing any masks despite the active Covid-19 pandemic and Hilton advertising themselves as a safe and clean lodging option. For a Hilton room that is >$200/night, I expect much better than this. Avoid this hotel - plenty of others nearby.

To start things off, parking was terrible. Trying to find the entrance to the hotel from the parking garage was a nightmare. Once we got to our room it was NOT clean. There was stuff all over the floors showing that they definitely didn’t take time to vacuum. The bathroom mirror had toothpaste spit on it, hair left on the counter, and no trash bag in the trash can. The mirror in the hall looked as thought it had never been cleaned, and the vanity and tv were dirty with crumbs left on the counter tops. The beds were made, but in a very messy way. The chair in the room had a white stain on it, with the glass table next to it also being dirty with crumbs. The air conditioner kept kicking off; despite being set to 63 degree, it remained 73, so the room was hot for most of the night. I wanted to try to get our money back and leave immediately, but we arrived late after a long day of driving and my husband just wanted to sleep to prepare for the 14 hour drive the next morning. I will say the bed was comfy and the sheets didn’t look dirty. We stayed on the 5th floor; someone did wake us up in the middle of the night being loud in the hallway, but that was the only noise complaint we had (which really is expected and not a big deal). We also noticed all the electrical sockets and light switches were old and a dingy yellow color, again not a big deal but an easy fix to modernize the room. I’ve stayed at many Hilton’s; it is usually our hotel line of choice because of the cleanliness and modern feel, but Hilton should consider making BIG changes to this hotel or selling it because it is not up to their standards in the slightest.

So much work needs to be done, the room cleaning protocols need to be explained in detail at checkin. I called to schedule house keeping the next morning and was informed only then it could only be done at check in. The toilet clogged and I inadvertently left the privacy sign on the door at check out. The engineer left the plunger at my door in a bag, next to the bag of clean towels for my family. No one indicated our cell phone numbers on our accounts so we were checked out of one room reservation and check in to a new one the next day. We found out when our key cards would not open our room, with the plunger, and bag of towels at the door. So a trip to the front desk was necessary to get new room keys and complain about the plunger at the door.

The hotel is really big - too big. Rooms are fine. Nothing special. Two big issues. 1. TVs are old. No way to connect to streaming service in the room. You have to pick a $20 movie if you want to watch something. 2) housekeeping. See below for the text exchange which I initiated at 9:04 AM on Day 3 of my stay. My room hadn’t been cleaned once.

“we ask that you ask the night before due to housekeeping already making their boards and starting cleaning at 9 am”

I asked for an explanation, they responded:

“No they can not due to not having it in before their boards were made we make this aware in our message and also upon check in as well we can put you on for tomorrow if youd like”

I explained that I checked in via app and wasn’t told this, and that I was checking out the next day. They responded:

“Hi, we can let the housekeeping manager know you would like service due to staff they may not be able to do the full service of the room would you like us to send anything your out of in the room currently in case they cant spare a housekeeper. Unfortunately it is not a guarantee due to staffing and late notice”

(9 am is too late???!). They never came to clean my room. When I expressed my disappointment, they didn’t offer any sort of accommodation, which would’ve been easy (complimentary breakfast, a free drink, complimentary parking, etc. - anything to show they actually cared).

Just not service oriented.

We came in on Saturday and checked into our room on the 10th floor. The clean seal was on the door and we entered the room to find cigarette ashes on the window seal. The TV stand had oil and stains on it while covered in dust. We called down and they did switch our room to another one on the 10th floor. While walking to our new room we noticed trash in the hallway and thought oh they are "cleaning" the rooms. The trash stayed in the hallway until we departed Monday and the trash can was over flowing near the icemaker. We had to call down Saturday night due to a party going on in another room. Hilton should be embarrassed that this location is run so poorly and is clearly not following any Covid safety protocols.

The restaurant is called 1700 and it was excellent. Specializes in steak but had other great choices. It’s not a huge restaurant but the presentation and service was top class. You should definitely give it a go. Also had a more casual bar area.

From what I remember, self parking was a block away. So we opted to do the valet parking out of convenience.

Where would the quietest rooms be located?
Answer from ChrisfromDE
Wilmington, Delaware55 contributions67 helpful votes
For a quieter room, ask for an upper floor. Lower floors get a lot of street and traffic noise. If you are not interested in a view, ask for a room looking east (river is west). Again, you are away from 2nd Street. It made a big difference. I've stayed there 5 times.
