Loved Casa Oro!! It was the perfect balance of being a social hostel without having a party jammed down your throat if you didn't want it. Wifi was great, free breakfast was delicious, and staff were really friendly and helpful. Daily shuttles to various beaches, close to a tonne of restaurants and shops. We had planned on only one or...

I came here to take a surf class, it's $30 for about 3 hours including rash guard, board rental, and transportation to the beach. I went to Playa Remanzo and took a class with 2 other girls. I've taken classes before but I wanted a refresher course. I was shocked with the teaching method, the teacher didn't explain any safety...

I stayed here for 6 nights and was pleased overall. Definitely try to get a dorm on the second floor; the first floor is where everyone hangs out/smokes and is near the kitchen. It's not a party hostel but some nights were louder than others and the doors to the dorm room stay open for most of the night. The...

This hostel is alright, fairly big, nothing special. It's not as crazy as some of the party hostels, but that does spill over to Casa Oro some nights. There is no one place for everyone to hang out, the hostel is very scattered. Lots of tours available. Moderately clean, not quite worth $13 a night for the dorm.

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel and appreciated all the extras that came with it. Free breakfast and free yoga classes as well as very convenient shuttle service to all the beaches. I stayed in the second floor dorms and they were very clean, comfortable and breezy/cool at night.

Casa Oro was good. It was well priced and had nice private rooms. Comfortable bed, space, fans, (air con available), good bathroom. The kitchen and seating areas were good. Rooftop bar was great. Location great. Only downfall were the staff. The women working reception were clueless and very vague- about everything. I would still return though and suggest this hostel...

I was walking around for a hostel, and this was the only one with a free bed. Luckily for me! Very beautiful and colorful, lots of cool places to hang out, free yoga twice a day and free breakfast in the morning that is actually eatable! If you are on a budget, this is the perfect place to stay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly. ... more   less
