Have stayed before in refurbished rooms hence coming back. Be warned not to stay in courtyard rooms. They are old and poorly maintained. There was a musty smell and on entering the bathroom found the cleanliness very poor. During the current times we expected better. Despite the age is it too much to expect that at least cloth and cleaning sprays were used? Could do better On booking the detail listed parking available and free breakfast. Car park is currently closed and breakfast restaurant remains closed.

Booked to stay here as the location was perfect and the prices seemed very reasonable. Having read the mixed reviews here I was a little apprehensive but I really needn't have worried. I think much of the criticism is unfair - I've stayed in rooms above pubs all over the country and this was certainly one of the nicest. It's not a luxury full-service hotel but it doesn't pretend to be - it's honest, comfortable lodging in a great location. My room was large, bright, modern and immaculately clean. Check in was pleasant and professionally handled, and I had a peaceful night's sleep. I can't fault anything about my experience really. That being said, I can see where problems could come from for other people which is a shame as they'd be so easily fixed - for example there is a heavy door which slams shut with a bang right in the middle of the hallway connecting the rooms - I was nowhere near this and never heard it but the rooms nearby must get woken up all the time. Likewise although my bathroom which was lovely, the paintwork in some areas was battered and looked really rough. It would take 5 minutes to fix both of these problems and avoid the criticism they create. I hope the owners take a little time to fix the minor issues as I think without these this would be a great hotel all round.

After living in Calne for a few years, we finally decided to visit the Strand. Excellent food and service from a lovely welcoming pub. Wish we’d visited earlier but I can recommend for a good menu selection at reasonable prices and they were certainly not stingy on portion size. I would certainly visit again, and as a local restaurant it is one I’d be happy to visit on a regular basis. Thanks for a lovely evening.
