We haven't been to The Castle for almost two years. The difference is staggering; all the rooms have been refurbished with ultra modern bathrooms and rooms repainted.. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and whatever you switched on worked! The staff are as happy as Larry and whilst they have always been friendly and helpful are now really cheerful as well. We had a lovely weekend, eating in the newly redecorated restaurant on the Saturday evening. The food was beautifully cooked and everyone enjoyed their meal. Sunday breakfast was equally good. I can't wait to go again.

I returned to the hotel after an 18month absence because of Covid. What a transformation! The rooms had been completely refurbished, the bathrooms replaced and and redecorated and the whole place was transformed. The food was first class and the staff happy and welcoming. I look forward to staying there in the future.

Driving through Wiltshire, stopped in Devizes for lunch. Happened across the Castle Hotel by accident and as they were just about to start serving thought we'd give it a go. Very nice Ham, Egg & Chips (and the wife enjoyed her Salad), washed down with a couple of drinks for just over £25 - so good value. However, service was slower than an asthmatic snail with a Zimmer frame - a bit annoying as they only had a couple of customers in and we ordered the food just as they were meant to start serving.

A good time was had by all four old mates who stayed here on a walking week in Wiltshire. Rooms were good, food was good, staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints at all. It was also very good value for money and well situated for the town centre.

We reviewed this hotel last year, just before the Covid lockdown, and before the new owners had fully taken over. I said should we stay there again I would post a follow up, We have, so here it is. Firstly, the new owners have made significant investment in improving the premises. Given that income was drastically hit by the lockdown this is testament to the commitment they have made to the hotel. As said in our earlier review, the new owners had told the previous staff they would be retained, and I'm happy to report that they were true to their word. When we were chatting with the breakfast staff it was obvious they were genuinely happy working for the new owners. We'd found the staff friendly and helpful last time, and this is certainly still the case. Cine, one of the owners is obviously committed to improving the hotel, and was happy to discuss the improvements they'd made (primarily in the rooms and bathrooms, as it should be), and didn't attempt to gloss over the areas still needing improvement. They are working to a plan, not having any income during lock down has impacted on their original plan, but did enable to complete some of the work while closed. She certainly made us feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. You can also trust her recommendation for somewhere else to eat! We had the same room at the back of the hotel overlooking the cemetery. It was very quiet (quieter than our bedroom at home) It was clean and comfortable with full tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom had been renewed, and the room re-decorated, although we were happy with the room last time, it was a big improvement. In response to complaints in older reviews, the secondary glazing appears to have been renewed! The English breakfast was every bit as good as last time, and although there was not a self service buffet bar due to Covid regs, the waiting staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We were staying with my aunt and uncle, she is a Celiac so was limited on what she could eat, the staff offered to get in anything specific she would like for the following morning. She was happy with what they did have, but it was pleasing to see the lengths they would go to to satisfy a guest. Although we did not eat in the hotel, based on the quality of the breakfast, I would not hesitate to do so, and intend to on our next visit. The bar was much busier than the last time we stayed, it appears some of the locals are now using it, which is further proof that the hotel is on the up. Despite the improvements made, and the financial cost to the owners, I'm also pleased to say that there was no noticeable increase in the cost of a room, although we did book through Booking.com. Next time I will approach the hotel directly for a booking. In summary I would like to thank Cine and her staff for a highly enjoyable stay. We'd suggested the Castle to my uncle and it didn't disappoint. They enjoyed their stay also, and would be equally happy to return. Keep up the good work Cine, and all the best with your plans for the castle in the future.
