As a local we have dined at the Old Bell on a number of occasions . Today was the first time under the new management. Lunch was fine and the staff attentive. Only sight concern was the somewhat over egged quirky nature of the decoration. Do we really need giant sized artificial giraffes in the entrance hall of the oldest hotel in England. The history of the Old Bell should be preserved not turned into a theme park, hope this doesn’t happen. Time will tell.

So glad this iconic hotel has reopened and is being refurbished. We had planned to stay one night in a Cosy room. When we decided to stay two nights, we 'upgraded' at +65% to a Traditional /Character room - this was a BIG mistake. Description on Hotels.com is incorrect - no garden view (all these second floor rooms are road facing). No bathrobes (even on request), no espresso maker, mattress had uncomfortable piped edges (not 'memory foam' ?). Room had sloping ceiling as shown, but it was also low height and with even lower intruding beams - we would say 'Attic' rather than 'Character' - no way was it worth its premium price. The receptionist at checkout kindly showed us a Cosy room, which looked fine - so if we ever return, it will be to a Cosy room, thanks (or a Classic room at +92%).

We did not stay at this amazing Hotel, but we did treat ourselves to the most wonderful breakfasts in it's beautiful Restaurant dating back to 1908 and it's amazing courtyard. We cannot recommend the breakfasts highly enough, but these were made particularly memorable by our host, Karine. She could not do enough for us and made our experiences really special. If in this town, you just have to treat yourself here!

Great, enthusiastic staff made our short stay a pleasure. Our evening meal was delicious and the enclosed garden an ideal place to finish with a coffee. The rooms are varied between modern refurbished to wood-lined and fourposted. The hotel is right by the Abbey and so in the centre of this delightful town.

Lunch in Saints and Sinners Restaurant. Fantastic food and good value. Food was very tasty and good portion size. Presentation of puddings amazing. Lovely atmosphere in restaurant. We took coffee in one of 3 relaxing lounges. Parking ok. Garden area too and you can enjoy beautiful views of Malmesbury Abbey.
