We met our friends here for lunch, about halfway between where we live. We met here 2 years ago and enjoyed a nice lunch. On this occasion, we were the only 4 in the restaurant! (Thursday) The open log fire was not burning but a portable gas fire was placed in front of it! We ordered 3 venison casserole (dish...

Having had a wander around a local bluebell wood we went in search of some lunch and a drink, really hard to find in the countryside, when you leave it til after 2pm, my mistake. Anyway on discovering the Royal Oak a really oldy woldy looking quaint village pub, at 2.30pm thought we'd cracked it, wrong, lunch ended at 2.15....

Nothing flash here, just good old fashioned country inn, in the middle of a quaint English village. Stopped here for lunch, on our way back from Torbay, en- route to the Midlands. Nice, wholesome food, bit pricey, for what it was, but then you never know any different, until you get it. Quite handy and just off the A338, about...

Visited 'The Royal Oak' for a family Sunday lunch, the staff apart from one were fairly indifferent and we felt that we were an inconvenience. The roast was at best mediocre flooded in gravy with an obviously frozen tasteless Yorkshire pudding. The actual pub could be lovely but tatty lightweight cutlery, worn out placemats and portable calor gas heaters don't...

Lunched at the Royal Oak on Tuesday and despite being midweek in February it was a busy bar/restaurant with diners. I had the lamb cutlets with fresh vegetables while my hubbie had homemade lasagne and chips and it was all very flavourful Well worth a visit at anytime. Making my next visit on Tuesday evening as the offer was a...

Visited on a Sunday lunch time, not overly busy. The village of Wootton Rivers is pretty and a great starting point for walks along the canal. I was attracted to the pub for this main reason as we had wanted a walk with the dog before lunch and other local village pubs I had liked the look of online were...

This is a lovely pub, warm and cosy with plenty of character and a friendly welcome. We booked a table for 8 on Sunday and were offered an extensive choice on the menu, including traditional roast - there was something for each of us, especially important when you have children with you ranging in age from 6 to 15! The...
