Alfa Travel haven't had this hotel for very long and have begun on a much needed refurbishment. The reception, dining room and bedrooms have been completed, but the stairways and corridors are still in need of TLC with worn carpets and scuffed and damaged walls.

There is only one small lift. Otherwise the stairs wind their way up round it.

I had a small single room which was spotlessly clean, warm and with a comfortable bed. The wardrobe was just inside the door, dark and inconvenient to open. The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom and had an excellent walk in shower. Bath towels were large and dried well but soon got wet and were slow to dry.

It was basically furnished with light MFD furniture. The only 'decoration' was the wall mounted TV. Supplies of tea and coffee or toileteries were available from reception.

Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the room was only serviced and towels changed if a message was left with reception.

Tables in the dining room were socially distanced and singles were allocated their own table. All service was to the table. Staff were excellent and couldn't do enough to help.

All Alfa hotels seem to work to the same weekly menu. There was a good choice but food could best be described as school dinner standard rather than exciting. Evening meal had to be ordered at breakfast.

Breakfasts were a choice of full English (hash browns and fried bread were excellent) or smoked fish (which was a smoked mackerel fillet) with poached egg.

The Hotel is described as 2*. It is an excellent location on the south beach and opposite the Spa.

Despite some of the reviews we booked to stay for a week after our foreign holiday was cancelled. The lobby area is a bit dated but they are in the process of refurbishment. We were allocated a room on the sixth floor.,the lift only goes to the fifth so you still have two flights of stairs to contend with. The room itself was great with a luvly sea view. It was a refurbed room with a standing shower and was fine. The only real issue we had was breakfast. The tables were not spaced out for social distancing we had to do that ourselves. The breakfast itself was cold so was the coffee and the juice was watered down. Also the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. We only had breakfast the first day and ate out the rest of the week. Apart from that we had a great week the staff and mainly older clientele were friendly and it was nice and quiet once you get used to the seagulls. I would stay there again without breakfast though. We heard from people we spoke to that the evening meal wasn't up to much either.

It was our first coach holiday with Alfa. When the coach arrived at the hotel the manager came out to welcome us. It’s a fairly small hotel. There was entertainment in the evening in the form of singers & few games of bingo.
Several fellow passengers commentated on the high level of cleanliness. All around chairs matched. There was a good choice of food in the restaurant.
All the staff were friendly. Packed meals could be ordered, which we did for our journey home at a reasonable price.

Stayed there the first week they opened after lockdown with my Grandaughter went with Alfa Travel 29th August 2020
Our room was awful and a health and safety matter. On arriving and been giving the keys the room was very cold and the dirty net curtain was blowing. The glass in the window looked like it had dropped down. Went to the reception and was told no more rooms available and that they would send some one.
I will cut it short as will take a while to write.
The window was
Sealed with tape next day they filled it in.
Last day of our holiday was hot in the room the window would not open was sealed shut by years of painting over.
They brought us a fan.
Told they would move us but see how we go as it was the last night.
If there had been a fire in the hallway we would not have gotten out.
The room was so dated.
The staff where lovely but very disorganised
Had to ask for things during breakfast and dinner
The food at Dinner well has to be my least favourite in all the hotels i have stayed in.
Breakfast was ok
The hotel was in a good location right on the beach front
Unless it was modernized to a higher standard i would not stay again.
Will travel with Alfa Travel again as a good company.
If you stay don't have room 401 unless it has a opening and closing window and been updated.

Stayed 29 August till 2nd September 2020 with Alfa Travel who now own the hotel. This was the first week open after lockdown and are still doing refurbs, so you expect a few teething problems. The staff were very helpful but very disorganised on the first day which did improve, though we still had to ask for certain things like toast and sauces. The breakfast was good otherwise. However, some of the evening meals were of poor standard. One night there was breaded fish and most people complained it was more bread than fish! And the chefs special, sausage casserole had no vegetables in it! I think the food purchased by the company or the chef is of a cheap standard and not very imaginative. I would use Alfa again but not at the Monarch until it improves which I’m sure will happen. It’s in a good location by the sea and good for trips to Scarborough, Filey and Beverly where the excursions took us.

I was due to check in on 29th July but when I arrived an engineer was working on the broken lift. Apparently 2 ladies had been trapped in it earlier that day. He was unable to fix the lift as he needed to order parts.
I asked if it would be fixed that day but he said he'd no idea when the parts would come.
As I walk with a stick there was no way I could access my allocated room on the 4th floor.

The only answer the man on reception had to another disgruntled disabled resident was to offer to carry her meals up to her room but as she couldn't walk upstairs I don't know what he expected her to do.
With no prospect of a repair during the weekend I left
I spoke to customer services who eventually refunded my payment but would not offer anything other than a 10% discount on a future booking for my inconvenience. This discount is given to everyone who books again!! So basically nothing!

I was told that I should have completed a medical form if I had mobility issues and that if I'd read the terms and conditions I would see that they couldn't guarantee a working lift.

Never heard anything like it
Reading other reviews on here it seems it wasn't just on my visit that the lift was a problem.

The chances of me booking again with Alpha Travel are as slim as the Monarch having a reliable lift.
Travellers beware!

This hotel is situated opposite the Bridlington spa a ten minute walk from the centre of Bridlington which has a good selection of shops. The harbour is close to the hotel the beach in front of the hotel stretches as far as the eye can see.
The hotel rooms range in size some small and some large, The food is of a good standard and range. The entertainment whilst I was staying was exceptional.

The hotel lovely newly refurbished I was given a double room as an upgrade which was nice USB in plugs to charge fone which is great also entertainment amazing now the meals leve a lot to he desired nothing special just what ever they felt like giving you as what ever you order they bring out different ond night ordered tikka masala curry and chips I got given chicken karma and rice and they argued it is tikka masala which most of the other ppl argued it was definitely karma. Also bread rolls arrived after you had almost eaten the soup. The female waitresses were so so rude its untrue. I asked for blackcurrant cheesecake it came out as cherry I said it not what I ordered well that's whats on menu no it wasnt so the incidents happened all the time I was there it's a shame as almost all the guest on our coach party will never go there again including myself.

Stayed at the Monarch in May 2022. Hotel was very clean, staff friendly and helpful. We managed to park outside the hotel (assisted by the receptionist) The central heating, is a radiator which you can always turn off if you are too hot. We had a lovely sea view. .Most of the friendly guests come by coach. Quite a good menu, so it is easy to find something you like to eat. There was entertainment most nights. Paul Tilley was exceptional. It is only 10 minutes drive to Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough. Well worth a visit.

Great location, friendly staff. Paid extra for Sea View Room (504). Clean bedroom with kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom. How lovely to soak in a large bath! Water's always hot and tea/coffee making facilities can be added to at any time.
We were allocated a table and time for our cooked breakfast each morning as there was a Christmas coach outing staying too. The decorations were lovely and got us in an early Christmas mood! We were able to park on road outside the hotel FOC. (Opposite side has to pay!)
