This motel was recommended by a friend, and as a group of friends travelling by motorcycle to Manitoulin Island, Huron Sands was perfect for us. The rooms are basic, it’s a small motel, and you can sit outside and chat with other guests. There is a restaurant attached, and the food is fabulous. Vera was very helpful and friendly. It will be 2 years August 2020 that the new owners took over, and they are updating everything. They are planning on replacing the old carpet in the rooms with new carpet, and I suggested (as a customer who usually travels with pets) that I prefer flooring - easier to clean, whereas carpeting holds smells and stains, and would be harder to clean. We would definitely stay here again. Did I mention the food... LOL - it is so scrumptious!!

Rating is for the restaurant. No idea what the motel is like but the food at this Mediterranean style take-out is excellent. Delicious pizza. The Lamb Plov was perfectly done, tasty, not greasy at all (sometimes difficult to do with lamb) and more than ample sized serving. Lots of variety. Very good service.

Normally my motorcycle ride to Providence Bay and the surrounding areas is a long day trip. This year I went on Canada Day and while sitting on the beach after a refreshing swim, decided to stay overnight. I am so glad I did because I got to experience this wonderful little Motel and taste it’s culinary delights for supper and breakfast. The hostess (I’m afraid her name escapes me) has an amazing accent and is wonderfully friendly. With covid restrictions in place, it still felt like a home away from home. The rooms are rustic with exposed beams and wood ceilings and were very large. Cleanliness was excellent and the service of my food right to my door was wonderful! I think my days of one day rides to the island are over :). But next time I will definitely reserve ahead because it is rare to find a room available and I was lucky- Providence must have been smiling on me, as I got the last one!

I had heard good things about this restaurant and was excited to try the Russian dishes but very disappointed with price and food quality. Over $30 for two small cabbage rolls and a plate of plov (mostly rice). There was a child and older woman singing karaoke with a malfunctioning PA system which they shut off and instead blasted loud music. Cabbage rolls were tasty but nothing special. My partner had the plov (rice with duck pieces). He is very unfussy eater but could only manage a few bites, I guess it's an acquired taste dish. We wanted to rent a room but the manager was very slow to respond, disorganized, vulgar and rude and there were a lot of bikers and noise on site. The rooms looked shabby and run down so we stayed at Fulford's Cottages instead was very nice clean and quiet.

We are sorry to hear about your bad experience. We have a high standard of quality for service and food and normally known for our attention to detail, and we regret that we missed the mark. During the summertime, we host gigs with local musicians and not always the equipment works as planned. We are happy to let you know that all our rooms’ bathrooms have since been renovated and awaiting the travelers. We also enriched our menu and can’t wait to open the new season. Hope to see you again in the nearest future.

This is a small older style property that has been cared for and maintained. The furnishings are older, but the room was clean and well furnished, with some thoughtful touches. The bathroom has been recently updated, and there was coffee, tea, a good sized fridge and microwave in the room. We arrived late (after taking the late ferry on a Friday evening) and our hosts stayed in contact to make sure we had our key and could settle in. Very warm welcome when we got there, and we felt well cared for.

Without doubt one of my favorite motels I stayed during my time on Manitoulin Island! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and owners. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible- delicious homemade foods were brought to our room, while accommodating our allergies (appreciate this!) We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience.

Located just a couple of minutes near the public beach with a beautiful playground and sandy beach. The scenery was beautiful, and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The boardwalk walks were a great way to end the days.

Note, this is not a 4/5-star hotel or so, but the atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the new owners who transformed the place in the past couple of years; a true sample of excellent hospitality!

Finding a stay in Manitoulin Island during this long labour weekend (Sep 2021) was impossible. I was hesitant to book this motel at first due to its limited reviews. We reached the motel at around 8-9PM when the restaurant was almost closing. We were welcomed by Ms. Vera, a beautiful & extremely polite lady at the check-in/restaurant counter. She did make sure that our stay was so perfect ! (Thank you, Ms. Vera!). This motel beat my expectations. Rooms were large and clean. Few stuffs in the room were very old (like the couch, coffee maker) , but I was really impressed to find out that they had everything that we wanted during our stay. Motel is very very close to the beach.. Loved that family time walking to the beach during evening and also doing our own BBQ right behind the motel. We just got back home and my 3 year boy is still asking me - "When are we going to sleep in the motel again?".

We just finished a three night stay at this motel. It’s typical of older, individually owned motels - feels a bit retro. It’s clean, roomy and very comfortable. Room amenities include a fridge, micro, coffee maker and a kettle for us tea drinkers. Didn’t meet the owners but we had many lovely chats with the housekeeper, who couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. Providence Bay is a bit of a drive to some of the Island’s attractions but each drive is beautiful. The beach is spectacular and you need to experience the sunsets. The best kept secret is Huron Island Time, the little shop on the beach. The ice cream is superb but the homemade Jamaican food is amazing!! Note- there are not a lot of restaurants open this time of year, so plan accordingly.

My family and I stayed at the Huronsands Motel during the off-season in Manitoulin. I’m always a little trepidatious staying in a motel, but my worries quickly faded as soon as we opened the door to the room. The rooms are VERY clean with all the amenities that we needed. Now, during the off-season it can be difficult finding a meal on the island, and we were so fortunate to have the ability to order from the restaurant at Huronsands. During this time of year the menu is limited, but I can honestly say we enjoyed the BEST cabbage rolls and Plov I’ve ever had.
On top of all of this, we were able to bring our dog with us because what would be a family trip without him!? All in all we would recommend the Huronsands to anyone, and we plan to visit again. Thank you for the amazing stay and incredible hospitality!

The room is pretty old with no air conditioning and the outside door doesn't close properly. The tv won't work and they said to call a number if any problems....they didnt answer the phone. Still using glass reusable glasses during covid so not impressed with this.
The washroom is new and very nice. They people were super nice and the pizza was pretty good.
