Detailed Reviews
The owner and his impressively renovated accommodation ensured our escape was all we could have dreamed for. Ideally situated in the heart of Merrickville with an iconic view of the surrounding historic architecture and local artisan boutiques, we couldn't recommend this place more. Everything was perfect from check-in to check-out. A big thank you to the host for helping making our special getaway so magical!

We stayed at the Merrickville Guest Suites (in the Sunrise Suite, Suite #2) for 3 nights recently and couldn’t have been more pleased. It has a clean, stylish, contemporary look and was spacious and comfortable. The kitchenette provided everything one needed for food storage and meal preparation. The WiFi and air conditioner worked well. We appreciated the easy, private parking in the rear of the building. The Sunrise Suite can actually be accessed by stairs leading from the parking area, or from the street entrance. We found it very convenient to have a key code instead of an actual key. Check-in at the owner’s leather shop downstairs (beautiful goods there, by the way) was quick and pleasant, but had we arrived outside of business hours, we had been provided with all the necessary information to let ourselves in. Supplies for a continental breakfast were provided (granola, breakfast bars, yogurt, fruit, juice, etc.) – though we highly recommend that you supplement this with some of the delicious pastries from nearby Nana B’s bakery!
The location was absolutely perfect – right on Main Street and steps from numerous shops and restaurants. I had rather feared that the Main Street location might actually be a drawback due to potential noise issues, but this turned out to be one of the quietest stays we’ve ever had – we didn’t hear a sound.
Merrickville is a charming town, and I can’t imagine there could be a better place to stay when visiting it.

What a gem we stumbled upon! My sister and I stayed here for 1 night to enjoy some christmas shopping and the town of Merrickville. The room is just perfect. The bed is so comfortable I actually slept in until 10 am which is quite a rarity! The room is clean and decorated beautifully. Every last detail has been thought of to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The view from the room is of the quaint town and it couldn't have been more magical during the christmas season! Owners are very attentive and we have rebooked for next year.

We spent two days enjoying Merrickville. It's a great place to relax. We watched the boats going through the locks, enjoyed lunch at an outdoor patio and later ate lots of ice cream. The room was clean, very spacious and filled with lots of those little things that make life fun and easy, shampoos, towels, wash cloths, Kleenex, art books, magazines, DVDs, tourist information etc. Loved the shower! I look forward to coming back for another stay.

My husband and I spent a night at the Merrickville Guest Suites, we stayed in the back room with the big deck. Merrickville is a lovely little town with lots of shops, we watched the glassblowers in action. Kathy was our check in/check out person and she was professional and lovely to deal with. Parking is provided conveniently right out back of the building. There was a good selection of DVDs in the suite, we picked our favourite Seinfeld DVD to watch. We even got a gift certificate for the leather shop downstairs and selection of breakfast goodies.
A great place to get away.

We loved our stay at Merrickville Guest Suites! We fit a family of 5 (baby in a playpen) with no trouble in the huge room. It has a comfy queen bed, a double pull out couch a table and chairs to eat at and lots of books and games. My daughter noted “daddy this is the only place we’ve ever stayed with Netflix and YouTube. Best of all, when Michael found out we were arriving by boat, he offered to pick us up and drive us the 3 blocks from the dock to his house. What amazing service. He even provided us with a few breakfast snacks. All restaurants and pubs within a 2 block walk - warning - some pubs close at 9 on weekdays.
Couldn’t have picked a better spot. Thanks Michael!

My spouse and our 18 year old stayed at Merrickville Guest Suites on a bicycling trip between Kingston and Ottawa. We couldn't have made a better choice of place to stay! The huge room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and stocked with a nice variety of fresh fruit, yogurts, drinks and other snacks. Our host Michael was most understanding as to our late arrival due to mechanical problems. He directed us to a local amateur bike mechanic who got us on our way the next morning, and even took the time to sew a big tear in one of our cycling bags. We hope to come back some day!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights mid December 2013 during what was a very cold period with temperatures of -23 degrees (celcius!!)
We had the apartment at the back and for the most part it was well appointed. Bed was comfortable, heating worked a treat, bathroom spacious, and kitchen a god-send given the weather.
A couple of things to note:
* given the prediction, and subsequent cold weather and snow fall it would have been nice if the back stairs and deck had been cleared and gritted. It made for a hairy walk down in the mornings to the car.
* there was no broom inside so when we returned after a day out, we had no way of cleaning the floor of our snow laden boots...
* the kitchen, even though well equipped, had no 'basics' such as oil and butter for cooking. The carton of milk, couple of muffins and granola and yoghurt were much appreciated but my husband likes bacon and eggs (which we were happy to buy) but then annoyed when we got back to find no way of cooking them.
Other than those suggestions, it is a wonderful little place and town.

Response from Michael R, Owner at Merrickville Guest Suites
Responded Feb 19, 2014
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at the Merrickville Guest Suites. We always want to maintain healthy relationships with our guests by providing them with the best hospitality we can. We try to take every precaution - especially in bad weather - to make sure entry-ways and stairs are clear of snow and ice. We apologize for the inconvenience you encountered with the snow during your stay. We have now provided each room with a snow shovel and indoor broom for our guests convenience if the snowfall is continuous. Many of our guests don't use the kitchenette, but if you plan to do some cooking we are happy to provide you with some basic cooking essentials. Again, thank you for your review and we look forward to having you stay at the Merrickville Guest Suites again soon!

Michael is a superb host. The apartment is smack dab in the middle of beautiful Merrickville. The weather was unbearably hot and humid during our stay, but the air conditioner in the apartment worked perfectly. The munchies in the fridge and on the kitchen table were greatly appreciated. My wife and I like to have separate beds on our vacations, and she lost the coin toss. She thought that the sofa bed might be ready for a new mattress, but she still slept well. I thoroughly enjoyed the big comfy bed. (I've lost the coin toss on many occasions!). We wouldn't hesitate to book this apartment the next time we visit Merrickville.

This was a repeat visit for us and we'll be returning.
It's within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
The room has a queen bed and a pull out double bed. Nice kitchen area.
Perfect for girls weekend away. It's also nice and quiet. We highly recommend.
