Detailed Reviews
This hotel had recently reopened post the Covid 19 shutdown so not all services available. Very pretty spot on the edge of a golf course. We stayed in a spa suite but the room, although well furnished was so dark it was virtually impossible to put on makeup or read. Bed was great with good linen. We ate at the bar one night and that was much better value than the restaurant where the food was overpriced for what you got. Staff tried hard and mostly succeeded.

I booked the cheapest room available, the Deluxe Suite with Woodland View, but it was HUGE ! Bed was super king I think, and very comfortable. The view over the carpark was nothing to write home about, certainly no Woodland View as expected, but this was possibly because I booked last minute through a third party website at a better rate than the hotel website.
Cocktails and dinner in the onsite restaurant were lovely, good service, quick checkin and out. Grounds surrounding the hotel were beautiful and well kept.
The not so good - although the room itself was very clean, the bathroom (well, shower room) needed some attention - noticeable mould in the shower and sink a bit clogged. Our room (101) was next to reception, and the piped music could be heard load and clear in the room until 10pm.
Unfortunately this room was also subject to every load talker in the Hotel walking past to their room, which went on until midnight. The "please be quiet" signs in the hallways should have given me an inkling of what was to come I guess. At $230 a night I expected a better sleep.
On checkout, the staff member didn't ask how my stay was - I think this should be mandatory. I offered my feedback regarding the bathroom and music, which he wrote down in a little pad. Hopefully these small issues will be rectified.
We'd stay again, just choose a different room.

We've had a number of stays at this hotel which we have previously enjoyed and I've praised however, at this last stay we've noticed a marked decay in the property. The rooms and public areas are showing noticeable wear and are in need of refurbishment. We are in the restaurant the first night and had bar service the following night, where previously we had thought the meals fist class, there has been a change of chef and the quality of the meals reduced to average. At $75 per head in the restaurant for a two coarse meal (excluding drinks or a dessert) the food was very average and uninspiring...as was the Bar food (calamari was undercooked...I've had better in pubs). The breakfast, due to COVID, is serviced by staff from baymarie's which is understandable. The menu is very limited so any more that a two day stay makes the choice of a different meal impossible. Whilst the hotel have been a good stay and convenient for us in the past we probably will not return because it is expensive and not as enjoyable

I booked this hotel for a business trip. The photos on their website over sell this property. The public areas are clean and offer a nice experience, however when you get out of the lift onto the floor above it changes.....the carpet is bare and fraying all the way down the long hallways, I walked into my room and was overcome with a 'damp/mouldy' smell, the carpet had not been cleaned to a standard expected and the walls needing immediate updating.
When I ordered room service I was told I would have to collect it myself from the bar! I collected my meal and then walked a very long way back to my room with a tray of food and glass of wine (not easy) to find my swipe card did not work. I had to leave my tray outside my room (getting cold) and return to reception to have it sorted. There was no apology, just a 'try this' attitude.
The bathrooms are very large, stark and cold. When getting ready for bed the sink tap began gushing water from the wall connection. I used towels to mop up the water and eventually got it to stop. When telling reception the next day it needed fixing she didn't even bother to note it down.
I noted bus tours are using this venue, I hope they were getting it a discount. My accommodation was over $300 for the night not including dinner!
My advice - stay somewhere else!

Was really looking forward to a mini getaway in beautiful Bowral and booked a two night stay at The Gibraltar in an executive room. We had stayed there a few years back and loved it then so didn’t even bother reading any reviews before booking.
Various things you look for in a quality hotel were sadly missing! The cleaning was average and particularly during the time of Covid, you would think that attention to detail would be paramount. The carpet both in the room and hallways was worn and had stains. Paint was chipped off everywhere. Lighting was poor.
The breakfast was so bad it was best to skip it on the second morning. The whole meal toast was straight out of the old fashioned pre sliced square sandwich loaf. The baked beans and hash browns were out of a tin and the freezer. The coffee was also bad.
The room TV had freezing issues so was difficult to watch. When I tried to call reception to ask why there was no response and the call rang out!
There were a couple of bright spots and they were the beautiful Xmas decorations in the main foyer. Being able to hear the birds out on the golf course!
To have paid over $700 for two nights was really disappointing!
In all my years of reviewing restaurants and hotels I have never made such a negative review.
Do yourself a favour, stay elsewhere!

Typical for wedding-hosting venue, the rooms in this rather shabby hotel are extremely overpriced. Rooms aren't clean enough (mould in the shower, stained old doona, which was revealed thanks to no doona cover, just a sheet) and generally not up to par. If it was very cheap, this hotel would be fine (and the bed was lovely and big), but at this price I expect an awful lot more for my money. We stopped in on a whim, not for a wedding, and I was keen to use the spa facilities. 4 phone calls and two visits later, I finally learned I wouldn't be getting one, as they were nearly finished for the day and weren't working on Sunday!
That said, the views over the golf course were lovely and the bar was quite nice, serving one of the most delicious cocktails I've ever tasted!

We loved this place when we stayed about 5 years ago. Everything was new and they were eager to please. Now, the hotel has not been looked after and is unimpressive. There are scratches all over the place and stained carpet which makes everything look bad.
We were placed in the room adjacent to the swimming pool. The whole time we were there we were rubbing out eyes due to the chlorine fumes. It really stank.
The beds are very comfy but at between $4-500 per night I do expect MUCH better than this.
Our only option to eat there was a $75 per person meal. 4 of us meant a $300 meal with drinks on top. Forget it. That's approaching $1000 per night.
I went into the bar where a nice fire was going and a few people sitting around having drinks. After waiting over 15 minutes at the bar I gave up and went elsewhere.
Sorry GH I won't be back again unless you lift your game.

Myself and my partner stayed at the Gilbraltar Hotel Bowral for one night. We wanted to suss it out as a wedding venue. We booked our stay through the 'visit southern highlands' website and paid for our accommodation straight away. After we paid, we received a phone call to say the room we wanted which included a spa bath was not available so they moved us to a different room. I was told there would still be a spa bath, but there wasn’t. We were disappointed as this was a little niche we were excited about. Upon checking out the next morning I was then charged the full amount, for a second time, for our room. I had explained that I had already paid for this but the hotel insisted that I had been mislead by the visitors centre. I called the visitors centre, they explained the hotel should have known not to charge me and that it had been paid for. So the hotel organised a refund. I checked my bank that afternoon and noticed rather than being refunded, I had been charged a second time for our room! So in total I was charged three times for our room and still havnt received the refund as this could take 5 business days. Our room cost $395 but right now I’ve paid almost $1200. Very poor communication between all parties involved. i dont think we will be planning to get married there.

The room was so dirty, there was a damp issue coming through the wall from them shower which made the whole room stink and the wallpaper is bubbling. The carpet hadn’t been vacuumed as there was things on the carpet, the windows had a small child’s grotty handprints all over it so it had not been wiped, the wall paper is peeling away in other sections of the room. The windows had bird poo all over them and the breakfast was ordinary. If that was their best efforts at a COVID clean we are all in trouble as that was terrible. All this for $1000 for a weekend stay. The hotel cleverly uses low lighting to disguise the filth stay away and save your money

We had dinner here in June 2020 - two people. Staff were helpful, friendly and on the ball. Surroundings were pleasant, with a low level of noise, so the conversation was easy. Menu was fixed price at $60 for an entree and main, with dessert able to be purchased if wanted. Food was good (recommend the fish parcel). Recommended.

Dear Guest,
Our indoor pool is heated between 27 and 31 degrees, we do have the 18 hole golf course on site and the Gibbergunyah walk nearby. There are plenty of other places for kids to see in Bowral a short 2 minute drive into the CBD.
I have stayed at a few Peppers and they’re always good. I haven’t stayed at Bowral Peppers though. Gibraltar was excellent however!
Hi hopstepandjump,
Thank you for your interest in our hotel. Yes you can catch a train down to Bowral and you would need to take a taxi from the train station to our hotel. Kindly give the complete address to the driver as noted down on our website and you would well be on your way.
The high tea was included in our package, and was worthwhile being both savoury and sweet foods, and ample in quantity. However, you should check with the hotel to make sure it is included in whatever package you have taken up. We booked for our high tea some weeks before we arrived as there was a group of us, so perhaps you too could book when you phone with the hotel. Have a great time.
Hi
yes we do have fully accessible rooms. We often have people staying in wheelchair and the hotel works really well for this.Liz
