Great location, friendly staff and chilled atmosphere but loud at night. Stayed there three weeks in private rooms with a friend. Rooms were quite small and sterile. Frist room was dirty, with wrappers on the floor and in the shelves. Other rooms were okay. General a bit a lack of cleanliness.
Having not been to Byron since 2006, I came for a night with a friend. We didn't want to be spending in to the 100s for a room we would only sleep in. We opted for the Cape Byron YHA. For $70, we got a twin room with a double and a bunk. The room was pretty bare, no TV - But it had a clothes hang/store area / mirror / enough plugs for the 2 of us. The bed was comfy and the covers were clean and warm (you have to strip the bed upon check out). There were 3 or 4 showers in the block on our floor, same for toilets - you needed the swipe card to get in - again clean, warm. The kitchen area was large - this grossed me out a little - but it's been a long time since I backpacked Oz and needed to cook for myself in such. The pans were old and pretty grubby. You had to get your plates etc from reception - but we had ours with us. The tea towels were rank - I wouldn't use. The worst however was a bloke in the kitchen coughing all over the place - not the hostels fault, but nasty nonetheless. Needless to say, we didn't go sit and eat by him - we ate on our balcony which had a table and 2 chairs. During COVID-times and no flights coming in to Oz, this hostel serviced a range of ages - I am 40 and there were people older than me there. I found the hostel more like a motel. Good location and good wifi.…
I loved my time at Cape Byron YHA! Everyone I met was very friendly and chilled, especially the staff. The pool was great and the facilities kept nice and clean. This is my go to place in Byron, I can't wait to go back!
This YHA is clean, welcoming and had a great atmosphere. I stayed here long term and loved it. Rooms get cleaned every day, kitchen multiple times a day and they got new laundry equipment. I have stayed in a few YHA hostels in AUS and I gotta say this is by far the best one. Things were clean and tidy. Of course a kitchen can’t be clean all the time seeing as some backpackers think they brought their mom with them in their travels to clean after them, but they didn’t so sometimes it’s a bit messy, but I don’t blame the hostel for that. Even people staying in the hostel were nice and welcoming. I definitely felt at home here and I think you would too. Going to Byron? Then this is definitely the hostel I would recommend! Thanks for a great stay!!
This hostel is in the perfect location. It’s easy to walk everywhere in the bay. Beach is only 5 min walk, if that. Pool is very nice and clean and the kitchen has everything you could need. There are multiple bathrooms as well so there is rarely any waiting for showers etc.
Wouldn’t recommend this place if you have a vehicle. Says free parking but they have a small handful of spaces which are inevitably always full. Have to pay for parking and move the car every 4 hours on the street. If we’d known it would be that difficult would’ve booked elsewhere.
Cape Byron YHA was an absolute delight. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, a short walk to the beach, and reasonably priced. The airy outdoor dining space was a wonderful place to meet new people or enjoy a meal in peaceful solitude. They also offer free walking tours of the lighthouse! This place is truly ace.
On my first day at Byron Bay yha we had a guided tour to lighthouse with Sarah, she was great! She took us through a great path and gave us some info about the area. I encourage her to be a full time guide haha
My friend and I have stayed at this hostel for the past 6 weeks and have absolutely loved every minute of it. The staff are lovely, accommodating and always have a smile on their faces. The facilities are clean and large, it was very easy to make ourselves feel at home. This place has such an easy-going, relaxed and peaceful vibe. It’s very close to the beach and city centre, so it’s easy to experience all that Byron has to offer! We have made friends for life here and We will be back for sure :)
I only stayed here for one night but found the hostel to be clean and tidy (the only facilities I used was the bathroom). Beds were comfortable (you're given clean linen upon check in) and there were storage lockers (own padlock required) however they're not big enough for large backpacks or cases. There was also no Aircon in the room, only a mounted wall fan, which at first I didn't think would be sufficient but the temperature dropped quite a bit at night so the fan was plenty enough. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hostel is only a 5 minute walk away from the main city centre and Greyhound/Premier bus stop.
