From the moment you drive up the drive of this property you know you’re in a special place. The kangaroos welcome you at dawn and dusk. Pat is a most welcoming host.

This house sits on the hill with spectacular views over the Valley. If you want a great nights sleep this is your place. The small gestures do not go unnoticed. Fresh cut roses in the bedroom. Fridge full of goodies to get your stay started. Cheese, bickies wine, chocolates fruit, chips. So generous!!

Breakfast cereals and pastries are delivered daily in the morning with a paper. If you take dinner and use the kitchen facilities you literally do not need to leave.

Grab some Indian curries from the general store in town and your set up for a great weekend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our escape.

Internet connection was limited. Which was fine for us.
TV in room is small but that was not what we were there for, enjoy the surroundings!

It’s a big, old house with about 4-5 beautiful rooms. If you are looking for peace and quiet in an incredible heritage home - this is your place.

There is a stunning lounge area with a fireplace, a huge kitchen area with fridge and piano! You can bring your meats to cook a bbq too out on the deck.

In your room, is a very small television (so bring your downloaded Netflix shows as there’s no wifi). A kettle, small fridge with milk that is complimentary, mini oven and hairdryer, shampoos are provided.

About a 8 minute drive to kangaroo valley shops/pub, it is perfect to get fresh air and serenity.

Our room was a good size, furnished in an older style with a large balcony overlooking the lovely grounds. Viewing of kangaroo and wombats was easy as they are everywhere.
The inclusion of a selection of complimentary minibar items including a bottle of wine was great.

The building is a lovely old period piece with furnishings to match. I loved my room. It was spacious, with a high ceiling, and had a balcony with a delightful view. Everything was spotless, and the food and drink were generous. The owner was welcoming. At 78 and alone though, I found up and down the stairs difficult with my luggage. It seems all the rooms are on the upper level.

Wombatalla Guest House advertises itself as 4 star. I would rate it as "just" 3 star. At $200 a night discounted from $220, it is not worth it. The rooms are equivalent to a cheap motel with no luxuries or charm. Our bathroom was tiny with tiles missing from the floor. The toiletry was a cheap bottle of shampoo. Nothing else but a cake of soap. A bar fridge sat against one wall which acted as the servery and bench for the jug and tea making facilities. The fridge was well stocked and complimentary. Breakfast is advertised as fresh bakery items. The basket contained packets of commercial breakfast food, 2 stale croissants, a muffin and a revolting, mushy apricot slice. The condiments were tiny packets of cheap jam and honey. No serviettes. To accompany, the fridge contained ham, cheese, fruit and orange juice. Two packets of biscuits were included for snacks. To freshen up the stale croissants I put them in a dirty portable oven than needed a good clean. No wifi, or mobile service. Linen was cheap and threadbare. I would throw the towels out at home or use them as rags. The pillows were the type you buy from Target at 2 for $5. There is nothing charming or inviting about this guest house. The lounge in the bedroom had a stiff blanket that was there to protect the lounge, not to snuggle up in on a cold night. The TV was the smallest I have ever seen, slightly larger than an Ipad and stuck up near the ceiling. The ashtray on the verandah was filthy, as was the verandah. The rubbish bin in the room was like a school house bin. The seat at the small table was stained. When we went to check out there was no one around so I left a note to telephone me. When no one rang by mid afternoon I rang to give them my credit card details to pay the account. Was told everyone had gone out for the morning. So much for welcoming and friendly service. The location is about 7 kilometres from town, with nothing around. Good for peace and quiet, except for the barking dogs every time you leave the house. Surroundings are very pleasant but I found the place so unwelcoming I couldn't wait to leave.

Response from Wombatalla, Owner at Wombatalla Guesthouse
Responded Aug 17, 2015
I'm sorry you were not delighted with your stay, as most of our guests really enjoy themselves. With regard to the star rating, this was allocated to us by the travel division of NRMA, and the inspector actually commented that our fit out and amenities were generally above a four star rating, but without airconditioning or a spa in at least one room he was unable to give us four and a half stars. In our quest for continual improvement, we have upgraded some amenities since then. You also neglected to mention in your review, that after commanding my wife to light the fire (which was already set) you then invited some friends around to socialise in the loungeroom without regard to other guests. I'm also sorry that you were unhappy with the pastries from the Kangaroo Valley Bakery, which generally receives rave reviews. I notice that you have also posted critical reviews about other places you have stayed, so perhaps your expectations are out of line with those of the wider community, or maybe you were miffed that you did not receive the discount for a last minute booking that other guests staying that night did. My partner and I enjoyed a lovely weekend at Wombatalla. Pat (the owner) left a basket of fresh pastries and the daily paper outside our bedroom door each morning, and the room is well-equipped with generous provisions in the fridge. I couldn't disagree more with those people who commented that the place is in need of a face-lift. This is a quaint, original home and it's precisely its old world charm which makes it so comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable to stay at. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a charming weekend away and has good taste.

Such a wonderfully quiet and comfortable spot! The rooms are beautiful and spacious with a verandah to view the gardens and visiting wildlife - kangaroos and a giant wombat. The owners provide wonderful provisions for before dinner and breakfast. We had the whole place to ourselves on a Friday night and sat downstairs in the 'parlour' watching the large screen TV - very countrified and luxurious. Great shower and comfy bed too. Even insect repellant and candles provided.

Spent the weekend here and loved it. Never been a fan of b&bs and forced socialisation but that's so not an issue here. The owners have catered to your everything we were so impressed by the house and gardens ands the breakfast basket was a gorgeous touch that. Big comfy beds, lovely deck and I'm sure the fireplace is a treat in winter. These guys know how to do it right. Can't wait for a return trip.

My wife and I had our 22nd Wedding Anniversary in Wombatalla Guesthouse this last Sat night. Very simple, functional and had some lovely touches including and unexpected ham/cheese/breakfast pack incl fresh pastries, paper and a packet of Iced Vovo's. Add a bottle of wine, a couple of beers and we had everything we needed. The balconies are ideal, common areas and very good, fireplace works a treat and we even had Fatso the Wombat welcome us on queue - at the gate after dinner on Sat night. It is at the limit of Telstra mobile coverage so if you are like me and need to be in contact - check that you can get reception. Well done to Pat and the team.

We booked Wombatalla for a girls long weekend getaway, and that's exactly what it was, you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere - far away from the hassles of reality! It was a bit hard to find and we drove around a good two or three times before finding it. The owners are just delightful, they really are the sweetest people. We were the only guests staying there at the time and they made us feel right at home, the big old home is incredible, we loved our spacious room, it's quite old fashioned but very very clean, the best feature is definitely the big balcony. We spent our entire time sitting up there reading and relaxing, the view is lovely and we watched the sun go down daily. They really went above and beyond with details, the bar fridge was overloaded with everything we needed snackwise! There was wines and beers and chocolates and chips and cheese... everything! We were beside ourselves. The owner got up early in the morning to drive into town and buy fresh pastries which were waiting outside our room in a basket with fruit and cereal.
We saw wombats and went for a big walk all around the beautiful property, their two dogs were really funny and followed along for the adventure. If you're looking to be secluded and relax, Wombatalla is for you.
