Magnificent former coal baron mansion, well, well appointed. Room 203 was a very large king with a large modern bathroom. Room 202 looked very nice also. Right downtown to walk to shops and restaurants. Owner Adam, and Kim were very nice and helpful. We will return.
In full disclosure, I visited this past week and people are still in recovery from Covid. Having said that, this is not my first visit to the end and each visit seems a little more disappointing. First, let’s start with the positives, we stayed in the carriage house which is separate from the main house, very spacious and quiet. The rooms are well appointed and quite comfortable. As with all of our stays, the rooms are clean and the linens very high-quality. The room is made up daily and water is replaced. My only complaint about the housekeeping was that the table in the sitting room was not wiped off during our stay. For the downside, the person who greeted us and showed us a room was grumpy. She gave us a guide to things in the area and activities that was from last year. At first, I thought it was because she did not have a 2020 guide because of Covid. As it turns out there were plenty of guys throughout town that were updated. When we asked about possible places to eat breakfast because the restaurant in the in is closed she had no real suggestions. She was equally unhelpful for finding a place for dinner. While I appreciate that they were limited options, there were plenty of restaurants that were open. The other issue is that while the room is lovely there is not a coffee maker in the room. Coffee is available on the second floor of the end for all guests. It is a hassle to have to walk across the parking lot, swipe your card, and go into a mostly empty building and up the steps to go get coffee in the morning. In addition, it truly feels like there is never anybody on property during the day and that if you have an issue you’re going to have to track someone down by phone. Finally, for the price of an excellent hotel I expect excellent amenities and that includes replacing the shampoo and lotion in the bathroom daily. It was not replaced leaving my friend and I worried that we would run out of shampoo. How hard is it to leave an extra bottle? I love Lingoneir, it is a sweet little town. I will likely be back to Ligonier but I will be looking for another place to stay…
We have for the past 4-5 years made an annual visit in January to enjoy the ice festival. The town comes alive as each business displays their sculpture and the town center glistens and the ice artists create their masterpieces. None of which shines brighter in the winter sun than Thistledown. A magnificently restored piece of the town’s history that now lives as a wonderful Inn in the heart of town. Warm and inviting she nestles her guests in cozy rooms with beautifully crafted woodwork and amazing stained glass windows throughout doubling as artwork. If you have the opportunity spoil yourself and enjoy this little gem.
We come down for breakfast at what appeared to be a B&B when we booked. In fact, it USED to be. according to the owner. The change was "A long time ago". Apparently, a long time ago is earlier this year. One of the staff tried to lie and say it had never, ever been one. After the owner already said it had been. ??? They also claimed the home page said this. (It doesn't). Same person claimed it clearly says it is an Inn and does not include breakfast. (Nope again) Sadly, we were the second guest in the same morning to have this issue. The staff is very kind and clearly has had to deal with this before. SO disappointing to pay the highest rate in the area to deal with this. $200/night for essentially, an AirBnB. There is food but the kitchen seems to be a separate business. Not sure. ???? Dealing with this cost us half of a day for a family event. We checked out immediately and went elsewhere. Would NEVER stay here.…
This home(small hotel) is a real jewel. It is well cared for, spacious and very comfortable and is located within walking distance of almost anywhere in downtown Ligonier. On site is a terrific cafe that provides exceptional breakfast and lunch offerings. Almost every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, special dinners are offered by café management. Accomodations are spacious, well appointed and many have fireplaces. Fine linens and bedding are also displayed, but most importantly the entire property is spotless and well maintained. You really cannot go wrong if you stay at this property.
