When you are looking for your luxury hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh, the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel is your ideal location. Located in the historic Fulton Building, this iconic luxury hotel delivers contemporary style in an exceptional atmosphere.

We usually visit Pittsburgh at least once a year for a Steelers game. The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel is one of the hotels that has a great river and bridge view but is also located in a great location within a 20-minute walk from Acrisure Stadium. As you arrive at the hotel, a public parking garage charges $16 per night, is relatively safe, and has no in/out privileges, which is a great option. Ultimately, you can walk around Downtown Pittsburgh without needing your car.
We stayed on the top floor, where the lounge is located. The views of the river/bridge/city are worth it, and it also has a lounge open during weekdays only. The lounge is relatively small and sometimes runs out of essentials, such as coffee and breakfast items, quickly, but it may have been my own experience during a hectic day or season. However, I did enjoy the restaurant and bar downstairs in the hotel, where everyone was more than welcoming and provided excellent food/drink options.
In addition, both housekeeping and front desk staff were attentive to our needs. As long as we requested housekeeping services through the front desk, we always received them without issues each day. Thanks to Mitchell K. for assisting us with this stay and meeting our needs. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will make sure to return soon to this great city.

We stayed here for a concert at PNC Park, which couldn't be closer of a walk (right over the bridge). Highly recommend the location if you're going to be at the park, or exploring the neighborhood, which is very walkable.
The front desk staff was incredibly friendly throughout the stay, including several recommendations and logistical assistance. We did have a scenario where we needed a couple coffee mugs and utensils for some takeout, and requested them via call to the front desk, but they never came. No big deal, it was a busy holiday weekend, and the in-person help at the desk all weekend made up for it.
The room was very usable and clean. This is an old building that's been retro-fitted. The lobby is very impressive. The room itself was a little noisy when the building shifted, and even with the shades clamped shut, the bright lights from the parking garage next door made their way in at night to an extent. It still was a good stay and the location and staff turned this from an average review to a very good one.

Extremely limited area to pull in front with car and check in first. We parked in the parking garage directly across the street, parked and then walked with luggage back across. There was a special event that weekend and parking was only $10 for a 24 hour period. Check in was friendly and quick. Our King room was on the small side but enough space for 2 people. Well furnished in a classic motif. Our window view was of the rooms a crossed the courtyard but if you strained to look to the side of the window you could see the river. Bathroom fairly large and good water pressure. Bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet with good A/C. We visited on a Saturday night and received continental breakfast vouchers for elite status. Breakfast was nothing to write home about; we should have gone to Pamela’s instead. The hotel is in the middle of an area with many people out walking to various restaurants with outdoor seating and other activities. Overall decent hotel and would stay again.

This is a nice old hotel that reminds you of yesteryear. The front desk folks were awesome, as well as the bar staff. The location is great if you’re okay with a short walk to the Pirates ballpark or Market Square. Restaurants just outside the door.
My issue with this place which is why I rated it average was the maid service….or better stated, the lack of maid service. This is not one of those places where they only come by every other day. Check in is day 1, on day 2 I get to my room that evening and it was not made up, called the desk and they offered to send someone up and said they comp some Bonvoy points. I was tired and passed on anyone coming up that hour. She said she leave a note for housekeeping. Day 3, again no room service…called and talked with the same lady, she said she comp some more points, and ensure the housekeeping manager was made aware. Again I was too tired for anyone to come up that evening. Day 4 yup you guessed it, no room service…once again I was told I’d get comped a few more points. And thus time the on duty housekeeping manager and two housekeepers came by…I needed towels and smelly trash removed. The manager said she wanted to make it up to me and said she’d send up a couple beers. No beer showed up, another empty promise. In total I was comped just 500 points. I expected at least 500 for each occurrence. I’m going to notify Marriott of my disappointment. Human error happens, it how the establishment responds and resolves those errors that really count.

The good: water pressure is good on showers, location is great, hotel is a very cool historical look. The bad: sadly, the bad outweighs the good, especially if you are platinum or higher and visiting on a weekend. That's because they close the lounge on the weekend and provide a terrible excuse for a breakfast. They issue a voucher that they say is good for a continental breakfast, which includes your choice of a bread, either a cut fruit or parfait, and either rice Krispies or oatmeal, and a drink. The wait for these complimentary items took over 40 minutes. They were our of parfaits which had been requested by our party. It took four times asking for the drinks to get them to come The guy who filled the water after we had been seated for 15 minutes reeked of cigarette smoke. The oatmeal was seriously watery. Basically, the entire thing was a failure, and to have to wait 40+ minutes is just inexcusable.
In the room, the latch on the door was broken, so no security for you! One of the only two lights in the room didn't work. Of the two USB ports, only one worked. The floor is uneven as the carpet seems to have been installed over a completely unfinished floor, so you can feel what seems like hatches or other things under the carpet as you walk around.
This is a really nice touch: adjoining rooms, unless specifically requested and leveraged, are already a creepy situation. This room has not one, but TWO adjoining doors. That's right, you could open access to two other rooms, daisy chaining three rooms together. This meant that as the lady in the next room drew a bath, we were able to be serenaded by her singing and cursing at the bathtub. And she wasn't doing it loudly. Through the other door, we were treated to all kinds of personal information throughout a conversation.
When I alerted the hotel to some of these issues, the response was simply "thanks for letting us know".
Thanks for giving me choice where I stay in Pittsburgh.

Dear GG, I wanted to reach out in the hopes that you could contact the hotel directly and ask for myself. I would be more than happy to speak with you personally regarding your stay and go over a few options about how we can move forward that would be positive for both yourself and the hotel. I look forward to speaking with you! Have a great day.

There are many qualities to recommend this hotel: location, building, rooms. The hotel is within walking distance of both ballparks and just about anything you would want to do downtown or on the North Shore. The building has interesting architecture and history. The rooms are plenty big, a nice surprise for an old building. However, the front desk seems incapable of handling a simple request to unclog the bathtub/shower drain, which I made on two consecutive days with no resolution. I would've had a five-star experience if I wasn't standing ankle-deep in soapy water in the shower. Check the drain function right after you put down your bags.

Location: The hotel is located on 6th Street just a block south of the Allegheny River. Right now the 6th Street Bridge is closed for construction and most of 6th Street itself is torn up as well. You can still park at the garage across from the hotel at least but getting around is trickier than usual. It's still an amazing location for a Pirates game or for being downtown.
Hotel: The hotel is one of those glorious renovated old buildings turned into a Renaissance. The building dates to the early 20th century and is beautiful inside and out. The lobby especially is lovely and it has a restaurant, coffee shop and really good cocktail bar. There's also a small store.Â
Check In: I checked in at 12:30 Pm and was able to get right into my room which is always a huge bonus. I was thanked for being Titanium and given two waters as well.
Room: Very nice and large enough for an older building. The room itself was lovely with high ceilings, a desk, large TV, outlets near the bed and no issues with soundproofing. The bathroom was a touch on the small side however.
Dining: The cocktail bar was wonderful, I was glad I went and they stay open until 1 AM. Breakfast was disappointing though. A really limited menu and the Titanium benefit was $10 off entrees (which doesn't cover drinks) or a continental breakfast. Â
I was able to use a 4 PM late checkout. My rate was a staggering $339 pre tax but I was still really happy with my stay and would come back.

COVID is over except for the management of this hotel, who are not providing the level of service one would expect under the Marriott banner in order to completely milk some post juicy covid profits from their guests. Their is zero room service, in room bottles of water cost $5, there is not a bell man or valet, and housekeeping consists solely of someone throwing clean towels on the floor near your bathroom. Beds are not made, dirty towels aren’t collected, the bathroom is not cleaned etc etc even if you ask for housekeeping. It’s ridiculous and Marriott needs to do all of us a favor and rip their name off this place.

Our stay was just okay. We decided to stay downtown this time for college move-in. Hotel is very centrally located and if you are catching a Pirate game you can’t beat the location. So for a quick stay and if you’re not looking for something special, it’s probably fine but I wouldn’t book it otherwise. Hotel is a bit dated, staff is overwhelmed, would not recommend room service, although bar was pretty good for a quick bite and a drink, housekeeping was almost non-existent for the 5 nights I was there even after multiple requests to have the room tended to. Literally had to search the floor for clean towels on the 4th day. Manager was super cool and helpful when I brought it to her attention and you could tell she was working extremely hard and going over and above. We would probably check-out another hotel if we were to stay downtown again.

The Bad: It started with the spiders! Yes, spider(s) on the 6th floor. Killed them all. Mini frid didn't work, so no saving left over dinner. The street noise, even on the 6th floor was really loud for a Sunday evening. The large windows OPEN which I though was weird. They are kind of heavyish to maybe that will keep the kids from opening them! The bathtub drain can not keep up with the shower water. You stand in ankle deep water. The shower curtain was yellow/orange moldy on the bottom. I guess because it's always in water? The "continuous" fan in the bathroom is useless. No air movement means a steamy bathroom. This Marriott price gouges when special events are happening in the city and well, the place just isn't worth it.
The Good: Wow, what a view if you are lucky enough to snag a corner, river view room. Spectacular. Plenty of blackout curtains are a great help for sleeping in a bit. The AC was top notch.
The morning clerk didn't even ask how our stay was, again, thought that was strange. I was ready to tell her what I noted above and leave it at that but since she didn't ask, there you have it.

The best parking is next door, where you can self park and it is less expensive than doing valet parking with the hotel. Unfortunately, there is no direct billing for self parking, and you will need to pay the parking machine before leaving the lot.
There are more places to choose from in the Pittsburgh area.
